Police and private security arrest one suspect and seize four vehicles in Midrand
A team of law enforcement officers and private security recovered four high-performance vehicles that were reported stolen and hijacked during an intelligence-driven operation conducted in Midrand.
Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said the team also recovered a large amount of equipment and tools used for theft of motor vehicles, including a signal jamming device, on August 1.
He said one suspect was arrested, and a search is underway for more suspects who might be part of this syndicate.

'Members from crime intelligence received information about a syndicate that is involved in the theft of high-performance vehicles around Gauteng and neighbouring provinces,' said Masondo.
He said the team, consisting of the police's counterintelligence head office, Gauteng Highway Patrol Flexi2, Gauteng traffic police Airwing, CAP Specialised Operations, and Tracker Connect, pursued the suspects in Midrand.
'One of the suspects was spotted driving a Toyota CHR, which was affixed with false registration plates, and he was intercepted. It was established that the vehicle was reported stolen in Krugersdorp in June 2025,' added Masondo.

He said a jamming device and a computer box were found in the vehicle.
The team proceeded to a residential complex in Midrand, where tools used for motor vehicle theft and three more vehicles that had been reported stolen in Johannesburg and Tshwane were found.
The arrested suspect is expected to appear in the local Magistrates' Court in due course, facing charges that include theft of a motor vehicle and car hijacking.
Masondo concluded the syndicate is linked to the theft of motor vehicles in Gauteng and the North West.
