1 2 Aizawl: A day after the Mizoram excise & narcotics department seized over 30,000 methamphetamine tablets (3kg), officials on Thursday evening recovered another 5.55kg (50,500 tablets) of the drug from Tualte village in Champhai district, bordering Myanmar. Department spokesperson Peter Zohmingthanga confirmed the seizure on Friday. Zohmingthanga told TOI that 30-year-old Rochharliana, a resident of Dilkawn village in Champhai, has been arrested in connection with the case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. He was produced before the district & sessions court in Champhai town, which remanded him to judicial custody. Meanwhile, a meeting of the Champhai district narco coordination centre committee, chaired by district DC Mohammad Aaquib on Friday, revealed that district police had seized 7.85kg of heroin and 78.95kg of methamphetamine between July 1 and July 25 — valued at Rs 12.62 crore. Police registered eight cases under the NDPS Act and arrested 17 individuals in connection with drug trafficking during the period. On July 10, officials from Zokhawthar Police Station at the India-Myanmar border trade centre seized 7.42kg (20 bricks) of high-quality heroin. During the same period, the district excise & narcotics officials seized 1.55kg of heroin and 11.21kg of methamphetamine while registering 12 cases under the NDPS Act and arresting 15 people.
