Willard Katsande on Ajax CT's golden generation and the title that got away
So close Back in 2011, Willard Katsande was part of an Ajax Cape Town's golden generation that fell agonisingly short of the PSL title. Photo: Samuel Shivambu/BackpagePix Willard Katsande has opened up about the heartbreak of Ajax Cape Town (now Cape Town Spurs) losing the league title on the final day of the season during the 2010/11 campaign. A young Ajax outfit, under the tutelage of Dutchman Foppe de Haan, punched above their weight for the entire season. The team featured the likes of Keagan Dolly, Thulani Serero, George Maluleka, Thulani Hlatshwayo, Khama Billiat, and Katsande, who were all in the early days of their careers. On the final day of the season, all the Urban Warriors had to do was beat Maritzburg United (now Durban City); they would finish the season ahead of Orlando Pirates. The Sea Robbers needed results to go their way to finish ahead of the Capetonians. Unfortunately, De Haan's youngsters could only manage a 2-2 draw at home against the Team of Choice, while Pirates got the job done when they beat Golden Arrows 2-1 at Orlando Stadium.

Mamelodi Sundowns transfer news: Fringe 'keeper signs new deal
Mamelodi Sundowns third choice goalkeeper Jody February has seen his contract extended by the club. February's contract was set to expire on 30 June but Sundowns had an option to extend it for a further year. And after careful consideration, the Sundowns hierarchy together with technical team decided to retain him. February has recently been given a chance to showcase his talent in the Sundowns starting line-up. However, with Ronwen Williams still the club's No.1 and Denis Onyango behind him, February remains further down the pecking order. This past season, the 29-year-old goalkeeper made seven appearances across all competitions for the Brazilians. February conceded five goals and kept three cleansheets from the said seven competitive matches he played. Overall, the former Ajax Cape Town shot-stopper has featured just eight times and kept just three cleansheets during his time with the Tshwane giants. February joins a growing list of players whose contracts have been renewed by Sundowns, including Mosa Lebusa and Thapelo Morena among others. Zwane: ‘It was a wrong move to leave Sundowns'
Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Siyanda Zwane has revealed that moving to Ajax Cape Town was probably a career-defining error. The former defender began his career at Golden Arrows before making the dream move to Chloorkop. As is often the case with newcomers to the club, Zwane struggled to win a starting place. 'I stayed there for two and a half years,' Zwane said on Metro FM. 'The other part of the season, I went on loan to Ajax Cape Town. Mushin [Ertugrul] called me and said, 'I can see you're not playing. I'm going to Ajax; would you mind joining me there'? 'The regret came when I thought that, based on the way I had performed at Ajax, Sundowns would call me back. So, when they didn't call me back, that's when the regret kicked in that maybe it was a wrong move to leave Sundowns to join Ajax on loan,' Zwane added on the national radio show, as per FARPost . 'Normally, when a player goes on loan, their contract is frozen. However, when I went to Ajax, I thought I would return to Sundowns and finish my contract. 'But they said they didn't freeze my contract; therefore, my contract with them is over. I had to find a team after that.' WHAT DO YOU MAKE OF SIYANDA ZWANE'S STORY?
