Lucknow: Acting tough against lapses in cleanliness initiatives, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) on Wednesday imposed fines, ordered salary deductions and issued warnings to lax officials and contractors.
The move came after officials carried out inspections in several areas under zones 5 and 8.
In Vrindavan Sector 8, the inspection team, led by additional municipal commissioner Arvind Kumar Rao and zonal officer Ajit Kumar Rai, found garbage scattered on roads, workers absent or not in uniform, and designated dustbins missing from the area.
The residents of the area reported that door-to-door waste collection was irregular.
The waste segregation rules were also being violated.
Taking action on these lapses, LMC fined Rs 1 lakh on the agency in charge, Lion Enviro Pvt. Ltd., and issued a stern warning against repeat violations.
Another inspection, headed by additional municipal commissioner Arun Kumar Gupta, revealed similar issues across Sunder Nagar, Natkheda Road, and Guru Nanak Nagar Ward of zone 5.
A fine of Rs 50,000 on Lion Enviro and one-day salary deductions were recommended for both a sanitation inspector and a Lion Enviro supervisor for neglecting duties.
Municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar said, "The city's sanitation standards are non-negotiable. Agencies and officials will be held fully accountable."
