Apollo launches ‘End-O Check' for early detection of ovarian cancer
Apollo Cancer Centre (ACC) and Apollo Proton Cancer Centre (APCC) launched End-O Check, an early detection programme for ovarian and endometrial cancers. Targetting postmenopausal women and those in high-risk groups, the initiative combines risk-based assessments, symptom evaluation, and diagnostic testing. At the launch, a panel discussion brought together experts from Apollo centres to stress the need for awareness, early diagnosis, and access to preventive tools. The panel featured Ajit Pai, senior consultant, surgical oncology, ACC-Teynampet, P. Venkat, senior consultant, surgical oncology, ACC-Teynampet, Kumar Gubbala, consultant, gynaecological oncology, APCC, Madhu Priya, senior consultant, surgical oncology, ACC-Vanagaram, and Priya Kapoor, consultant, surgical oncology, ACC-Teynampet. The discussion was moderated by Ayyappan, senior consultant, surgical oncology, ACC-Teynampet. Ovarian cancer, often termed a silent killer, typically affects women between 55 and 64 years. Early-stage detection can push survival rates beyond 90%, but vague symptoms often delay diagnosis. Endometrial cancer, on the other hand, frequently presents with signs such as abnormal bleeding, yet many women fail to seek timely care. Dr. Madhu Priya also highlighted the importance of ovum preservation for younger women undergoing cancer treatment. 'Freezing eggs for fertility preservation gives women the option to protect their ability to have biological children after cancer treatment. Including this as part of cancer care supports informed, compassionate, and holistic treatment planning,' she said. Dinesh Madhavan, President, Group Oncology and International, Apollo Hospitals, called the initiative a shift from treatment to early detection. With India's cancer burden projected to rise, End-O Check seeks to help women to take charge of their gynaecologic health through education, screening as well as early intervention.

Signed into law, Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill" returns an important power to the FCC
The carrier spent $7.99 billion to license 31MHz of 600MHz airwaves (or 45% of the amount up for grabs). T-Mobile ended up using this spectrum for its nationwide 5G service. After taking the early lead in 5G service in the U.S., it was obvious that the carrier made the right decision when it used mid-band spectrum, particularly the 2.5GHz airwaves that it picked up in the Sprint acquisition, to kick off its 5G build-out. AT&T and Verizon decided to use high-band mmWave spectrum to build out their 5G networks hoping that it could give their customers access to the super fast 1Gbps data speeds available from mmWave airwaves. But the two carriers didn't grasp that mmWave signals travel short distances. Soon it was apparent that T-Mobile 's secret sauce was its use of mid-band. While mid-band frequencies do not deliver the zippy fast data speeds that mmWave signals do, they travel longer distances than mmWave. Airwaves in the 3.1-3.45 GHz and 7.4-8.4 GHz bands are off limits since they are being used by the military. Former FCC Chairman Ajit Pai, who had that role during Trump's first term, is now the head of the CTIA trade organization which represents the U.S. wireless industry. Pai, who had been appointed as Chairman of the FCC by Trump in January 2017, said he wanted to thank the president for his "extraordinary leadership and vision, particularly on wireless issues, during this process." Pai added, "This legislation represents an historic milestone in wireless innovation. It will encourage next-generation wireless technologies, accelerate wireless deployment for the benefit of all American consumers, and secure our global technology leadership." Trump's ‘big beautiful bill' could mean slower Wi-Fi for you
The Senate version of the budget reconciliation bill, backed by President Donald Trump, removes protections for unlicensed spectrum that broadens the capacity of the 6GHz Wi-Fi band. This could result in slower Wi-Fi speeds. Under the bill, which may be voted on at the end of this week, the FCC would sell off some of that spectrum to mobile carriers such as AT&T, which could use it to improve the speed of their mobile data. The bill includes a provision requiring the FCC to auction 800MHz of spectrum, including bands allocated by the FCC in 2020 for unlicensed use. The version of the bill that passed the House excluded the band of frequencies between 5.925 gigahertz and 7.125 gigahertz, which includes 6GHz; however, there's no such exclusion in the Senate version. The FCC could be 'forced to sell off as much as half' of the unlicensed spectrum currently in the 6GHz band, according to Public Knowledge. Senator Cruz, chair of the Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, says this new spectrum auction will help prepare carriers for the next 'wireless leap.' However, as recently as this month, AT&T stated that it has 'no pressing need' for additional spectrum. One thing a spectrum auction will do is generate more revenue for the government to offset the tax cuts in the bill. Removing this spectrum from unlicensed use could negatively impact the 6GHz Wi-Fi band, which added a huge swath of capacity to Wi-Fi when former FCC Chairman Ajit Pai made 1,200 megahertz of spectrum available for unlicensed use in 2020, during Trump's first term. The 6GHz band is used by Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 to deliver faster speeds over wider, 1200MHz channels (Wi-Fi 6 uses up to 160MHz-wide channels), increasing the speed and reliability of Wi-Fi, especially with tri-band routers. The 2.4GHz and even 5GHz bands are becoming increasingly congested as we rely more and more on Wi-Fi in our homes and businesses. Devices that use 6GHz benefit from a wider, less congested 'super highway' to travel on, which reduces latency and increases speeds. Devices like newer Apple iPhones, Samsung Galaxy and Pixel devices, as well as newer MacBooks, iPads, and Lenovo ThinkPads, can use 6GHz, as well as Xbox series X and S, and some Samsung and LG TVs. Wi-Fi 6E is also being adopted by smart home devices, as it facilitates faster communication. In a letter to Cruz and the other committee members, urging them to keep the 6GHz band unlicensed, the Wi-Fi Alliance states that the 6GHz band is 'the foundation for Wi-Fi's continued development and growth' as well as playing 'a pivotal role in enabling technologies of the next decade, including artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, augmented and virtual reality.' The letter was signed by Apple, HP, Comcast, Amazon, and Meta, among others. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr is in favor of selling off portions of the unlicensed spectrum.
