‘She's still got it': New video of Serena Williams sends fans wild as Venus Williams makes return

Serena Williams called time on her illustrious tennis career in 2022, but a recent clip posted to her Instagram shows she may be set to make a shock comeback. The 43-year-old claimed 23 Grand Slam titles – second only to Margaret Court's 24 – and competed in her last professional match at the U.S. Open three years ago, where she lost to Aussie Ajla Tomljanovic. After that defeat, she bid goodbye to the sport and has avoided the temptation to make a comeback. The following year, Williams welcomed her second child in August, and since then, she has undergone an incredible body transformation. In recent months, the youngest of the Williams sisters has upped her social media posting, sharing various pics and videos of her incredible new physique. But it was a video the 23-time grand slam winner uploaded on Saturday (AEDT), that truly sent fans crazy. You can watch the footage of Serena Williams in action in the player above. There has been very limited footage of the tennis star out on the court since calling time on her illustrious career, but on Saturday, she shared a clip captioned 'Still Serena' showcasing her skills, with fans all thinking the same thing; 'She's still got it'. 'Mother of 2 Serena Williams, wins grand slam in 2026! I can see it now,' one fan commented. 'Damn, she's still got it. Absolute GOAT,' another added. 'Would still beat everyone at the tour even with no training,' a third wrote. Fans also began to hypothesise she may be eyeing a shock return to the sport, potentially on the doubles court. 'You've always been fit. But this is the fittest we've seen you since the 2012-2016 season. Just one more season, Serena?' one wrote. 'She's coming back for doubles with Vee (Venus Williams) at the Open,' another added. Spanish tennis player Carlos Sanz also pointed to a key in the video. 'Keep rewatching this video, are we preparing for a doubles WC entry with Venus at the US Open? And your comeback?' Venus Williams, Serena's elder sister, is gearing up for a comeback at the DC Open in Washington this weekend with a wildcard entry, marking her first WTA Tour match since March 2024. So could a Serena comeback be on the cards, potentially with her sister Venus? Time will tell.

Serena Williams shows off her ripped physique in photos from gym session as sister Venus makes tennis comeback

Serena Williams may be retired from tennis, but the 23-time Grand Slam winner has certainly remained in shape. Williams, who walked away from tennis after the 2022 US Open, shared a series of gym photos to her Instagram page on Friday, captioning the photo: 'Working out and working on my angles.' And the 43-year-old showed off her chiseled physique in several mirror selfies, which earned plenty of praise from her fans in the comments. 'Did anyone say 'we miss you playing' yet? You literally look back to your early twenties!,' one wrote. 'She's looking in 'Tennis Ready' condition,' another said. And a third said: 'I smell [Grand Slam] 24 coming ... the game is not the same ... [please] come back for one more need you!' The tennis legend last won a Slam in 2017, when she won the Australian Open, though she would go on to lose in the US Open and Wimbledon Finals twice more apiece after that. Her last match came against Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round of the 2022 US Open, where she lost in a three-hour, three-set marathon. However, Williams' older sister Venus is still going strong, as it was recently announced she'd be returning for the DC Open at 45 years of again through a wild card bid. Venus, a seven-time Slam winner in her own right, hasn't played a tour-level match since March 2024. The Indian Wells said earlier this year that she'd be competing as a wild card - but she Williams said she had no knowledge of the announcement and had made prior commitments. However, she confirmed in a statement through the DC Open that she'd be returning to the court. 'There's something truly special about D.C.: the energy, the fans, the history,' Williams said.

Wimbledon: Seven Aussies ousted on opening day

After entering Wimbledon under an injury cloud, Jordan Thompson showed all his fight in a comeback five-set win to be the only one of eight Australians in action to get a victory on day one in London. A massive 17 Australians made the main draw for the year's third grand slam, the biggest number in 30 years, but it's down to just 10 already after an opening day wipe-out. Alexei Popyrin and Ajla Tomljanovic were both among the losers and Talia Gibson tested Naomi Osaka in her Wimbledon debut before going down in two tight sets. But for the third year in a row, on court 9 at Wimbledon, Thompson, the world No.44, came back from two sets down to advance to the second round. Jordan Thompson flew the flag for Australia on day one of Wimbledon. Picture:Having been forced to withdraw from Queen's due to a back injury, Thompson was on the brink of defeat against Czech player Vit Kopriva and struggling to move freely around the court. But he battled through the pain and clawed his way back to secure a dramatic 3-6 4-6 6-3 7-6(7-1) 6-1 victory before declaring he'd need more time off after Wimbledon, no matter how deep he goes. 'I'm probably on the sidelines after Wimbledon, so I'm just doing everything I can to play at this great place,' Thompson said. 'I just told myself when I was down two sets of love, 'just keep thinking that you've got no chance to win',' he said. 'It's better that way. And obviously I still believed I could win, but I just kept telling myself, 'Forget it. You're not going to win'. 'That takes the pressure off. I mean, I can't put too much pressure on myself, even though I do a lot of the times, (because) this year's just been a disaster.' Davis Cup captain Lleyton Hewitt was in the stands watching, and Thompson put on a Hewitt-like performance. 'He's always there for me, Rusty (Hewitt), so I thought I had to acknowledge that he was there. Gave him his own celebration and turned the hat backwards,' he said. 'I can't appreciate what he does enough.' Alexei Popyrin was among the Australian losers. Picture:James Duckworth lost in a five-set thriller after pushing 25th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime before falling just short of an upset. The biggest shock loser was 20th seed Alexei Popyrin, who was upstaged in four sets by local wildcard Arthur Fery, while Chris O'Connell was unable to overcome French qualifier Adrian Mannarino On the women's side, two-time quarter-finalist Ajla Tomljanovic went down in three gripping sets to Anastasia Pavlyuchenckova, while another Wimbledon debutant, Kim Birrell, wasn't up to the task of taking down last year's semi-finalist Donna Vekic, and Olivia Gadecki fell to Argentine lucky loser Solana Sierra.
