UP Police find Pak terror links, Ghazwa-e-Hind videos in Thane duo's chats
The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh Police has uncovered critical information from the mobile phones of Dr Osama Maj Sheikh and Ajmal Ali, arrested from Thane, Maharashtra. The two were allegedly linked to the Pakistan-based terror outfit Reviving to officials, the ATS is decoding messages exchanged on a social media messaging group, which included instructions from Pakistani numbers on making improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The chats also featured videos promoting Ghazwa-e-Hind and violent jihad, along with references to the notorious Thatta terror training camp — the same facility where 26/11 attacker Ajmal Kasab was have revealed that several Indian youths were in contact with Pakistani handlers through the group. Chats on Osama's Signal app showed he was instructed to visit Hyderabad, Agra, and Ahmedabad. He reportedly travelled to Hyderabad and Agra multiple times. Officials said on Monday that the arrests were made during a joint operation by the Anti-Terrorism Squads (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. The accused, identified as Ajmal Ali, a resident of Amroha in Uttar Pradesh, and Dr Usama Maz Shaikh, a homoeopath from Badlapur in Thane district, were allegedly active members of a radical WhatsApp group named 'Reviving Islam". The group reportedly had around 400 members, including three administrators, most of whom were Pakistani nationals. Investigators found that some members of the group were in regular contact with Pakistani operatives. One Indian phone number linked to the group led ATS teams to Ajmal Ali. Ajmal was called in for questioning at the UP ATS headquarters, where he confessed to spreading radical messages targeting non-Muslims and sharing anti-India content across platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, and Signal. He also revealed his close connection with Dr Usama Shaikh, whom he referred to as his mentor. Their conversations allegedly included discussions on toppling the elected government and establishing Sharia rule. Based on this information, a case was registered by the UP ATS on August 1, under Sections 148 and 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Ajmal was arrested and remanded to judicial custody. Later, in coordination with Maharashtra ATS, Dr Usama Shaikh was arrested from Badlapur on August 4. Both accused were found to be actively involved in radicalising Muslim youth, inciting communal hatred, and promoting calls for a so-called 'Ghazwa-e-Hind' (holy war for India). LUCKNOW: In a major crackdown, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), on Monday evening, busted a gang comprising two individuals, allegedly engaged in hatching a conspiracy to incite communal disharmony and wage an ideological war against the state of India. As per the ATS sources, the arrests were part of a wider investigation into radical online networks linked to Pakistan. The UP ATS, initially detained Ajmal Ali, 19, from Amroha in western UP on August 2 for questioning. Based on Ajmal's grilling, his mentor, Usama Maj Sheikh, 24, was picked up from Thane on August 3. The ATS arrested both Ajmal and Usama officially on Monday. The ATS sources claimed that sustained electronic surveillance and intelligence inputs led them to uncover a WhatsApp group named "Reviving Islam" with over 400 members, including three group administrators. The majority of the group members were reportedly based in Pakistan, while one mobile number linked to the group was traced to a UP resident.
