Maya slams ASP chief Chandra Shekhar Azad
The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati hit back at Azad Samaj Party (ASP) chief Chandra Shekhar Azad stating that leaders of such organisations and parties are like rain frogs, who are weakening unity between the Bahujan and BSP on the directions of and support from parties like the Congress, BJP and SP. Addressing 'Astitva Bachao - Bhaichara Banao' (Save Existence – Build Brotherhood) - Parbudh Jan Sammelan in Lucknow on Sunday, the ASP chief had attacked Akash Anand who has been recently appointed chief national coordinator of the BSP. 'People have rejected Akash Anand but due to compulsions, the BSP opened the door for him after expulsion,' he said. Lashing out at BSP, Chandra Shekhar had said, 'I respect BSP chief Mayawati but now the ASP will fulfill the dreams of Dalit icons Bhim Rao Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram. Ambedkar had said that dead people do not run the mission and they do not leave the mission alive. ASP is spreading the message and mission of BSP founder Kanshi Ram'. Mayawati countered the ASP chief's attack on BSP with a series of posts on X on Monday. Without taking his name she said, 'BSP is the only Ambedkarite party in the country working for the benefit of the Bahujans'. Defending her decision to open the door to her nephew, Akash Anand, after expelling and reinstating him on the second top post in the party, the BSP chief said, 'There is a tradition of taking action against people in the interest of the party and taking them back if they repent. In this sequence, the ups and downs of Akash Anand in the party and making him the chief national coordinator has naturally created uneasiness among many people. 'The party hopes that Akash Anand will fulfill the responsibility of taking forward the self-respect of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar and Kanshiram. The BSP is realising their dreams with full dedication and heart and soul. The party has absolutely no need for opportunists and selfish people,' she said. Slamming ASP chief Chandra Shekhar Azad, the BSP chief said, the leaders of some organisations and parties who are like rain frogs may become MLAs, MPs and ministers for their personal gain but they are not going to do any good to society. People should be careful, she said.

Delhi Confidential: New role & rules
BSP president Mayawati's nephew Akash Anand made a comeback in the party as chief national coordinator, a new position created last week. He is supposed to be the 'Number 2' in the organisation after Mayawati. As chief national coordinator, Akash will travel to all the states but with a rider. Sources in the BSP said Mayawati has instructed him to hold only 'indoor meetings' with the party leaders during his tour; he will not address any open gathering of workers or supporters until he is allowed to do so. In his earlier stint as the party's national coordinator, he had addressed rallies, workers meetings and led marches on streets. Down Memory Lane A recent morning meeting at Delhi Police headquarters to discuss security arrangements, including bandobast for the death anniversary of former PM Rajiv Gandhi, struck a chord with Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, a 1988-batch IPS officer from Tamil Nadu cadre, who was posted in the state as Assistant Commissioner of Police when the former PM was assassinated in Sriperumbudur on May 21, 1991. The police chief recalled how uncertainty clouded the atmosphere as information about the blast trickled in. Recounting the events as they unfolded and the chaos that followed the incident, he told the officers, many of whom were too young to have joined the force or even remember what happened, that the world had stopped for a moment for all of them who were on duty that day. Wait For Reports The long pending annual reports of the National Commission for Backward Classes was submitted by its chairperson Hansraj Ahir to President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday. Two reports were submitted for the years 2022-23 and 2023-24. The wait for the reports' release, however, will continue as they will first get tabled in Parliament. The annual report for 2024-25 is also under process, it was learnt.

Condition of UP govt schools pathetic, says Mayawati
Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Tuesday expressed grave concern over the deteriorating condition of government-run primary schools in Uttar Pradesh, calling the situation 'very pathetic'. She warned that if it continues, it will threaten the educational future of marginalised communities. Citing official enrolment figures, Mayawati pointed to a significant drop in the number of students attending primary and upper primary schools in the state. 'In the academic year 2023-24, there were 1.74 crore students enrolled in primary and upper primary schools in Uttar Pradesh. However, in 2024-25, this number has fallen to just 1.52 crore -- a sharp decline of nearly 22 lakh students,' she wrote in a post on X. Describing this trend as 'serious and worrying,' the BSP supremo said the government must recognise the importance of basic education and take urgent corrective measures. 'The poor condition of the government school system shows the lack of proper attention towards the educational needs of the underprivileged. The government must act to improve infrastructure and learning standards in schools,' she added. Mayawati also criticised the state government for its approach toward private madrasas, especially those operating under low-cost models in rural and minority-dominated areas. 'Instead of providing support, the government is targeting these madrasas by labeling them illegal and trying to shut them down. This is unnecessary, unjust, and further weakens access to basic education for the poor,' she said, urging the administration to adopt a more constructive stance. She reiterated that while government schools across many Indian states are in poor shape, the situation is especially alarming in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. 'This neglect directly hampers the development of poor Bahujan families and casts a shadow on the future of their children,' she said. 'Rather than shutting schools down, the government should prioritise strengthening school education and offer appropriate incentives to encourage attendance,' she added. Mayawati's remarks came at a time when she is actively working to reclaim her party's lost political ground. With an eye on the upcoming elections, she recently reappointed her nephew Akash Anand as the BSP's national coordinator -- a move seen as an attempt to reconnect with the Bahujan youth.
