East and West Godavari to drive energy-efficient tech under new Rs 1k crore scheme

Visakhapatnam: The Union ministry of power recently launched the 'assistance in deploying energy efficient technologies in industries and establishments' (ADEETIE) scheme, backed by a govt budget of Rs 1,000 crore. While the West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh has been selected for the overall scheme, both East and West Godavari districts have been chosen for participation in the glass–refractory sector. The scheme, being implemented by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, aims to accelerate the adoption of advanced energy-efficient technologies in micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Of the Rs 1,000 crore budget, Rs 875 crore has been earmarked as interest subvention to facilitate concessional financing for energy-efficient upgrades, while Rs 50 crore has been allocated for implementation and capacity-building activities. The initiative is expected to leverage total investments of over Rs 9,000 crore, including significant contributions by MSMEs themselves. As part of the national rollout, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has appealed to Andhra Pradesh to take immediate and focused action in scaling up the implementation of the ADEETIE scheme. States have been urged to engage their state-designated agencies to proactively educate stakeholders, identify eligible clusters, and provide end-to-end support to MSMEs for a seamless technology transition. Additional secretary, ministry of power, and director general, BEE, Akash Tripathi, said that ADEETIE is a major boon to the MSME sector. "We urge all states to capitalise on this opportunity from the very beginning to ensure the scheme's success and maximise benefits for their industries," said Tripathi. The scheme provides comprehensive support—from investment-grade energy audits and detailed project reports to financing assistance and monitoring and verification—ensuring measurable energy savings, reduced costs, and enhanced productivity. BEE secretary, Milind Deore, stressed the importance of state-level engagement: "The role of SDAs is crucial in outreach, handholding, and scaling the scheme. By working closely with stakeholders, states can ensure their MSMEs become globally competitive and environmentally responsible," said Deore. ADEETIE is operational across 60 industrial clusters and 14 energy-intensive sectors, including textiles, foundries, and food processing, among others. A phased, cluster-specific approach is being adopted to tailor interventions and ensure measurable outcomes. According to the BEE officials, the Union government sees this scheme as a pivotal tool not only for post-pandemic recovery, but also for long-term sustainability, job creation, and achieving India's climate and net-zero goals. The ministry of power has specially acknowledged the proactive role of states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, while calling upon all states to rise to the occasion and make ADEETIE a turning point in India's clean industrial growth.
