Akhanda Godavari project bhumi puja scheduled for June 19 postponed, says Minister
The bhumi puja for the Akhanda Godavari project scheduled to be performed on June 19 has been cancelled, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Cinematography Kandula Durgesh said on Saturday. Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan would perform the bhumi puja for the Akhanda Godavari project and permanent buildings of the Andhra Pradesh State Forest Academy in Diwaancheruvu Reserve Forest, and inaugurate a Sub-Regional Science Centre in Rajamahendravaram by the June-end, said Mr. Durgesh. Reviewing the arrangements being made for these programmes, Mr. Durgesh said the Centre had sanctioned ₹97 crore for the Akhanda Godavari project under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI). As part of the project, Havelock Bridge would be renovated with various tourist attractions. The A.P. State Forest Academy is now being run from the Regional Forest Research Centre in Rajamahendravaram. Recently, the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change approved the diversion of six acres of reserve forest land for the construction of the Forest Academy buildings. The construction of the Sub-Regional Science Centre has been completed at Bommuru, on the outskirts of Rajamahendravaram, with ₹15.2 crore aid offered by the Ministry of Culture. East Godavari District Collector P. Prasanthi, MLAs B. Balarama Krishna, Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdari, SP D. Narasimha Kishore and other officials were present in the meeting.

Three major development projects in East Godavari announced
Vijayawada: In a significant boost to tourism, education, and environmental conservation in Andhra Pradesh, deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan and MP Daggubati Purandeswari are set to launch three key development projects in East Godavari district, said tourism minister Kandula Durgesh. He stated that the initiatives include the laying of foundation stone for the Akhanda Godavari project in Rajamahendravaram, the Forest Academy in Rajanagaram, and the grand opening of the Science Museum in Bommuru. Durgesh made the announcement during a coordination meeting with officials from various departments at the collectorate in Rajamahendravaram on Saturday. He emphasised that these initiatives are not only aimed at enriching the tourism sector but will also serve as valuable educational and environmental assets for students and the public alike. The tourism minister revealed that the foundation-laying ceremonies and the inauguration will be held shortly, and the dates will be announced soon. The previously considered date for the Akhanda Godavari project was rescheduled due to the upcoming cabinet meeting on June 19. Foundation stone for Akhanda Godavari project to be laid in June first week
Rajahmundry: Deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan will lay the foundation stone for the Akhanda Godavari project in the first week of June, said AP tourism minister Kandula Durgesh on Monday. He made it clear that the project works will be completed before Godavari Pushkarams. He mentioned that the project aims to develop several tourist places in Rajahmundry, Rajahmundry rural, Kovvur and Nidadavole assembly constituencies. He informed that tender works have been completed for some works and tender process for remaining works will be completed very soon. He explained that the historical Havelock Bridge will be beautified, Pushkar ghat will be transformed into a spiritual centre, and Kadiyam nurseries will be developed as international tourist destination. Addressing the media at his camp office in Rajahmundry, Kandula Durgesh said that the tender process for Gandikota project in YSR Kadapa district was completed and project works will begin very soon. He further said that Gandikota will be developed as the Grand Canyon of India. He further said that the Suryalanka beach in Bapatla district will be developed and funds have been sanctioned from the Centre. As Surya Lanka beach is very near to Amaravati, he said that the beach will become a national tourist destination. He informed that Union minister for tourism has promised more projects to Andhra Pradesh.

Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan will perform bhumi puja for the Akhanda Godavari project, for which the Union Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned ₹98 crore under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI), in the first week of June in Rajamahendravaram City, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Tourism Kandula Durgesh said here on Monday (May 26). The mega tourism project is envisaged to beautify the Havelock Bridge across the river Godavari between Kovvuru and Rajamahendravaram. A glass walk and other attractions on the bridge are a few facilities proposed to be built on the bridge, which was commissioned in 1897 and abandoned by the Indian Railways. 'A tent city on an island, Bridge Lanka, at the Havelock bridge location, tourist attractions in the Kadiyam flower nurseries and Kovvur and Nidadavolu are part of the Akhanda Godavari project, which will be commissioned before the commencement of Godavari Pushkarams-2027,' Mr. Durgesh said in a press conference. All the ghats, primarily Pushkar Ghat, will also be renovated as part of the beautification component of the project.

Andhra's Havelock Bridge set for Rs 46 crore transformation
RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM: The Central government has sanctioned Rs 46 crore under the Akhanda Godavari project to develop the historic Havelock Bridge in Rajamahendravaram into a major tourism destination. As part of the project, authorities will also redevelop Pushkar Ghat. The funding falls under the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investments (SASCI). Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh said the initiative would enhance the visual appeal of the bridge while boosting tourism and generating jobs for local youth. 'This project is a game changer for the Godavari region,' he said. The Havelock Bridge, built on 56 pillars and spanning 2.9 km across the Godavari River, served as a vital railway link for over a century before its decommissioning in 1997. Experts from IIT Madras have conducted a detailed structural analysis of the bridge, adjacent Bridge Lanka, and surrounding areas. The East Godavari District Administration and the Municipal Corporation await the final structural stability report.
