Govt school students yet to get books for new session

1 2 Ranchi: Even after a month into the new academic session (2025–26), students of govt schools in Jharkhand continue to wait for their textbooks. The session of govt schools commenced on April the education department's provision of free textbooks for Classes I to XII, many districts received only partial consignments, leaving students without essential learning the education department distributes textbooks to Classes I to VIII under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan and to Classes IX to XII through state funding, the annual delay in the tendering and supply chain process continues to disrupt academic general secretary of Akhil Jharkhand Prathmik Sikshak Sangh (AJPSS), Rammurti Thakur, said, "Books are rarely distributed at the start of the academic session, and in many cases, students do not receive them til mid-year."In several districts, only a limited number of classes have received textbooks. In Ranchi, for instance, textbooks for Classes II, III, and V have been received, while books for the remaining classes are still awaited. According to education officials, books for other classes are expected this per AJPSS, in Chatra, Class I studnents have received their textbooks. Ramgarh has received books for only Classes III and VI. In Garhwa, textbooks have reached only Classes I and X, and even there, distribution remains incomplete. In Palamu, Classes VI and X have received Jamtara, apart from three Mukhyamantri Utkrisht Vidyalayas, no other school has received books. Bokaro has received textbooks for Class VI only. In Deoghar, textbooks for Classes I, II, VI, VIII, and IX have been received. However, full-scale distribution remains pending, with only Classes II and VII receiving books in a majority of schools so Singhbhum has reported distribution of books for Classes III and VI, and a few schools have received textbooks for Class VII. In Lohardaga, the books have been distributed for Class I while in Dhanbad, the situation remains unsatisfactory, with books for Classes I and X Ahmed, principal of Government Middle School, Ormanjhi, said, "Every year, delays in tendering, printing, and distribution cause the textbooks to reach schools late. We are relying on textbooks from the previous session for teaching, and students are also making use of them."Administrative officer at Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC), S D Tigga, said, "Books are being delivered to schools and the process is expected to be completed soon."
