QFA Awards honours football excellence in Qatar

The QFA Awards 2025 took place on 26 May 2025, celebrating key individuals and fans who have significantly enhanced the football landscape in Qatar. Akram Afif, a standout player for Al-Sadd Club, received the Best Player Award for the 2024/2025 season, marking his second consecutive win and the fifth in his career. Félix Sánchez, head coach of Al-Sadd Club, was honored with the Best Coach Award for the 2024/2025 season. Meshaal Barsham, goalkeeper for Al-Sadd Club, won the Best Goalkeeper Award in its inaugural edition for the 2024/2025 season. Mohammed Manaai, a prominent player for Al Shamal Club, earned the Best U-23 Player Award for the 2024/2025 season. Roger Guedes, a star player of Al Rayyan Club, claimed the 'Mansour Muftah Top Scorer Award' for the 2024/2025 season, netting a total of 21 goals. Al-Sadd thrash Al-Ahly to retain Qatar Stars League title

April 18 (Reuters) - Al-Sadd retained the Qatar Stars League title with a crushing 5-0 victory over Al-Ahly on Friday in the final game of the season. Al-Sadd finished the campaign on 52 points, two points ahead of Al-Duhail who beat relegated Al-Khor 1-0. The Reuters Daily Briefing newsletter provides all the news you need to start your day. Sign up here. Akram Afif opened the scoring for Al-Sadd after 13 minutes with a penalty after winning the spot-kick himself and Mostafa Meshaal made it 2-0 just before halftime. Afif assisted the third goal in the first minute of added time after a low cross from the left to Paulo Otavio who tapped the ball into the net. Afif also set up the fourth goal for Rafa Mujica and Claudinho completed the rout nine minutes from time with a fine strike. Al-Sadd won the Qatar Stars League title for the 18th time and the fourth in the last five years.
