YouTuber made creepy baby cot film before killing wife as she pushed son in pram

Habibur Masum posted videos of himself packing a hospital bag and putting together a new cot as he prepared for his first child with wife Kulsuma Akter, who he later stabbed to death A wannabe YouTuber who stabbed his wife to death while she pushed their baby son in a pram, made a bizarre video about his son's cot just months earlier. ‌ Habibur Masum attacked Kulsuma Akter after tracking her down after she fled his 'violence, jealousy and controlling behaviour'. ‌ The 27-year-old mum had left to go out with a friend on April 6 last year, believing Masum was in Spain, but he confronted her in the street as she was pushing their seven-month-old. ‌ Prosecutors said Masum, 26, launched a 'ferocious' knife attack leaving her with multiple stab injuries, including one which severed her jugular vein. One eyewitness described hearing Ms Akter 'screaming in agony and pain'. His trial heard Ms Akter had left him in January 2024 after telling police that Masum had assaulted her. ‌ She told police he had held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her over a 'completely innocuous' message she received from a male colleague at a factory. In a statement, which was read in court, Ms Akter said: 'I was very frightened when he was holding the knife as I believed what he was telling me and that he might kill me… I do not want to stay with him anymore.' ‌ She told officers her relationship with her husband of 18 months was 'usually good' but that 'recently he has been controlling me… taking my phone off me and not letting me contact anyone'. Masum, who fancied himself as a content creator, had a YouTube account where he would post videos about his life. In the run up to his son's birth he posted a video of himself building the baby's cot. In it he speeds up the unboxing of the furniture and can be heard giving a voice over commentary telling his 102 subscribers what he is doing. He can be seen skipping through the written instructions before giving a hands-on demo of how to put it together. ‌ This video was uploaded in October 2023 before he killed in April 2024. Following the attack, the video was swamped with comments pointing out what he had done. "And then you killed his mother," one person wrote. Another said: "Aww you made your baby a bed and then made sure he had no mother." ‌ Masum also uploade a YouTube short showing him packing a hospital bag in preparation for the birth of the couple's first baby. It included a towel, blanket, tiny baby clothes and nappies. Masum was sentenced to life behind bars with a judge telling him he will spend a minimum of 28 years in jail. ‌ In a statement following the sentencing Ms Akter remembered the young woman as a "much-loved daughter, sister, aunt and mother". They said: "Kulsuma's loss has left a gaping hole in the lives of all her family and friends. We have been left with a profound sense of emptiness and a deep and painful void in our lives. "She was a loving, caring and kind soul with a generous nature and touched the lives of everyone she came into contact with. ‌ "As a family we miss her beautiful smile which would light up any room she entered. We will miss her humour, her kindness and her love. We will never forgive the monster who took Kulsuma from us and we do not wish to utter his name. It does not deserve to be mentioned. "The monster who savagely took Kulsuma from not only us, but also from her baby son. He will never know her beauty and her kindness. "He will never know his mother, other than the memories we as a family will share with him as he grows. He is the only light in all this darkness and Kulsuma radiates throughout him. 'Although we are grateful for the judicial process that found him guilty of this crime and for the sentence he has received today, no amount of time in prison will change the life sentence he has inflicted upon us all. "No family should have to endure the pain and heartache we have had to endure since he took Kulsuma's life so horrifically. We can only try and keep her memory alive by continuing to love her and to remember her name."

Two Bangladeshi men claim trial to bribing immigration officer with RM15,000

KUALA LUMPUR: A Bangladeshi man claimed trial at the Sessions Court today to bribing an Immigration Department officer with RM15,000 to bypass entry procedures into Malaysia for six of his fellow countrymen in May. Kabir Hossain, 51, clad in a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission lock-up T-shirt, made his plea before judge Azura Alwi. According to the charge, he had committed the act by giving the bribe to a man to be handed over to an immigration officer at 2.17pm at a unit in Jalan Nyonya off Jalan Changkat TH on May 14. The offence under Section 16(b)(B) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act punishable under Section 24(1) carries a maximum 20-year jail term and a fine not more than five times the bribe sum or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction. Prosecuting officer Mohd Hanafi Firdhaus Abd Latif urged the court to set bail at RM10,000 with two sureties. Lawyer Nur Aida Zainuddin asked the court to allow bail for Kabir, who came to Malaysia seeking a better life to support his wife, their five-year-old child and aging parents. "The accused has no relatives in Malaysia, aside from a fellow Bangladeshi, who was also arrested in the case. "The accused's money has been seized by the MACC and he does not have any savings," she said. At another Sessions Court, an employment agent, Akter Hossain, 55, also a Bangladeshi, pleaded not guilty to a charge of conspiring with Kabir to bribe the officer. He made his plea before judge Rosli Ahmad. Akter was accused of committing the offence at the same time and place. The charge under Section 28(1)(c) of the act, read with Section 16(b)(B) and punishable under Section 24(1), carries the same penalties as the earlier charge. Hanafi Firdhaus suggested the same bail of RM10,000 with two sureties. Aida, however, asked for a lower bail as Akter suffers from multiple health issues and was hospitalised for three days while under detention. "He is self-employed with no fixed income. He came to Malaysia with his wife and they have the Malaysia My Second Home visa. "His wife is fully dependent on him and she has no one else here. "Since his remand, he and his wife's bank cards were seized by the MACC. "I ask for a minimal bail and Akter has pledged to attend all court proceedings," she said. Both courts allowed Kabir and Akter a RM10,000 with two sureties bail and ordered them to surrender their passport to the court and report to the MACC monthly. The court set Aug 29 for the next mention of the case.

Habibur Masum tormented wife with sick Snapchat 'countdown' to family's death

WARNING DISTURBING: Kulsuma Akter was stabbed to death on the streets of Bradford following a harrowing stalking campaign from her violent and controlling husband Habibur Masum Habibur Masum threatened to kill members of his wife's family in a twisted Snapchat countdown days before he stabbed her to death in broad daylight. ‌ Masum, 27, was sentenced to life with a minimum of 28 years in jail today after being convicted for the murder of his wife Kulsuma Akter, with whom he had moved to the UK in 2022, in a chilling broad daylight knife attack on the streets of Bradford. ‌ Bradford Crown Court heard today that the mum, who was also 27, had been lured from a woman's refuge by Masum and was wheeling their seven-month-old son in a pushchair when he stabbed her 26 times in the street, leaving her to bleed out with a slit throat. Just days before the sickening attack, Masum had attempted to force her into meeting him by threatening to kill members of her family. ‌ Speaking in court before delivering his final sentencing of Masum, judge Mr Justice Barry Cotter documented a horrific stalking campaign carried out by Masum in the days before he murdered Ms Akter. He told how Masum first tried to lure the mum by making threats to her brother after she had settled into a woman's refuge and "made friends" following a previous incident in which he had threatened to murder the mum. He said: "You threatened the five members of Kulsuma's family who live in the UK. ‌ "You messaged Kulsuma's brother, stating: 'If I don't get my family back by the 1st (of April) I will kill everyone.' And [you] messaged Kulsuma on Snapchat stating: 'I will kill five of them.' You then did a daily countdown." Ms Akter was left "mentally disturbed" following the countdown, the judge added, and said Masum decided afterwards to travel from Oldham to Bradford, where he eventually killed the mum. ‌ After travelling to the town where she was living at the time, Mr Justice Cotter said he was caught on CCTV "loitering in the area of the refuge" before sending the mum a Snapchat showing the building. He sent the video as he "wanted her to know that you had tracked her", the judge said. It was planned for Ms Akter to be removed from the refuge, but killed on April 6 before authorities were able to transfer her. Masum was ultimately able to lure his victim from the refuge after falsely claiming via Facebook that he was in Spain, giving the mum a false sense of security. He stabbed her death as she walked into Bradford centre while wheeling her young son in a pushchair after confronting her on the street.

Man seen on CCTV calmly walking in city after killing wife as she pushed pram

Habibur Masum launched a 'ferocious' daylight knife attack on Kulsuma Akter before leaving her 'bleeding to death in the gutter' and calmly walking away from her and their seven-month-old son. A court heard Masum, 26, followed Ms Akter, 27, to a refuge in Bradford where she had been staying after he held a knife to her throat following an assault at their home in Greater Manchester. After tracking his wife through her phone location, Masum was seen on CCTV in the days leading up to the fatal attack 'loitering, watching and waiting' in streets around the hostel, jurors heard. He sent Ms Akter messages threatening to kill her family members if she did not return to him, before trying to lure her out by sending fake messages from a local GP practice pretending their son had an appointment. Bradford Crown Court heard Ms Akter eventually felt safe enough to leave the refuge on April 6 last year after Masum updated his Facebook page falsely claiming to be in Spain. He confronted her as she was walking in the city centre and was seen on CCTV trying to steer her and the pram away before pulling a knife from his jacket and launching the 'brutal attack' when he realised she was not coming with him, prosecutor Stephen Wood KC told jurors. CCTV footage of the attack, played during the trial, captured Ms Akter's screams as Masum stabbed her at least 25 times, put her on the ground and kicked her 'as a final insult' before lifting her head and cutting her throat. Footage released by police after Masum's conviction shows him calmly walking away from the murder scene and through Bradford city centre. Jurors heard Masum travelled almost 200 miles south to Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, and was arrested in the early hours of April 9 in a car park near Stoke Mandeville Hospital, where he had gone to be treated for 'lockjaw'. During the trial, Masum refused to watch footage of the attack but jurors heard that during his first police interview he requested to see it, with Mr Wood saying he wanted to see what officers 'had on him'. When he gave evidence through a Bengali interpreter, Masum said he did not remember killing his wife and had taken a knife with him intending to stab himself in front of her if she did not 'listen to him'. He broke down in tears as he claimed to have 'lost control' when Ms Akter told him there would be no shortage of people willing to replace him as a father to their son. But Mr Wood said his tears 'were as fake as his claims of self harm' and that 'the only person Habibur Masum feels sorry for is himself'. The prosecutor said the relationship between Masum and Ms Akter was 'an abusive relationship characterised by his jealousy, possessiveness and controlling behaviour'. Jurors heard the couple met and married in Bangladesh, and came to the UK in 2022 after he obtained a student visa and enrolled on a Masters course to study marketing. On November 23 2023 he became jealous over a 'completely innocuous' message she received from a male colleague and was accused of assault by grabbing her face, slapping her and pulling her hair. He was cleared of that charge. The court heard he told her he was going to murder her, and held a knife to her throat the next day. Masum was arrested and charged over the incident, with Ms Akter deciding to leave him and being moved to the Bradford refuge by Oldham social services in January 2024. The court heard that while she was at the refuge, Masum sent her a photo of the front of the building with a message saying: 'I know that you are living in this place. I knew from the first day you moved here. 'If I had any wish to kill you, I could have from the first day. You do not know what you have lost but one day you will understand. Nobody will love you like I do.' The court heard Ms Akter's social worker arranged for her to be rehoused and she was due to move on April 8, but in the meantime she heard from Masum's brother that he was in Spain, and 'felt safe to leave the refuge' on the day she was killed. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said no officers will face action after Ms Akter contacted West Yorkshire Police a week before she was killed saying Masum had sent her death threats. The watchdog said officers were sent to the area but no suspect was found, and an intelligence report was then shared with Greater Manchester Police three days later. Masum had pleaded guilty to manslaughter but denied murder. On Friday he was found guilty of the more serious charge, as well as one charge of assault, one count of making threats to kill and one charge of stalking. He pleaded guilty to possession of a knife in public. Masum did not visibly react as the verdicts were read out. He was told by the judge Mr Justice Cotter, that he will be sentenced on July 22, when the minimum term for his life sentence will be determined.
