3 arrested after mob attacks 4 meat traders over beef suspicion
Agra: Three men have been arrested after a mob assaulted four meat traders, set their vehicle ablaze, and accused them of transporting beef in Alahdadpur village under Harduaganj police station limits in Aligarh, police said on Monday.
Nadeem, Aqeel, Arbaz and Qadeem were transporting some meat from Al-Ammar Frozen Foods, a licensed facility, on Sunday evening when they were intercepted by the group.
The mob overturned their vehicle, threw the meat on the road, and attacked them with belts and wooden and iron rods. The assailants also robbed their mobile phones and cash. The victims were admitted to JN Medical College, where they are recovering. The attackers also allegedly attempted to extort Rs 50,000 from the traders, according to a complaint filed by Salim Khan, Aqeel's father.
The complaint said the assault followed their refusal to pay.
Police and senior officers, including Aligarh (rural) SP Amrit Jain, reached the spot soon after receiving information. "The men were given protection and taken to hospital. Their condition is stable," Jain said. "We have sent the meat samples to a lab in Mathura. Results are awaited," Jain added. Authorities have not disclosed the identities of those arrested.

This was the second attack in two weeks involving the same victims and location. The previous incident ended with the vehicle's release after lab tests confirmed the meat was buffalo.
Police filed two separate FIRs. The first names 13 accused and 25 unidentified persons under BNS sections, including section 309 (attempt to murder) and robbery. The second FIR, based on a complaint from Vijay Bajrangi, charged the four traders under the Cow Slaughter Act, though no names were mentioned.
The incident drew sharp reactions. Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind president Maulana Mahmood Madani condemned the attack as "barbaric" and a threat to communal harmony. Former Aligarh mayor Mohammad Farqan called it "unimaginably brutal" and demanded justice. Police released a video statement asking the public to help identify other attackers. The investigation is ongoing.
