Agra: Three men have been arrested after a mob assaulted four meat traders, set their vehicle ablaze, and accused them of transporting beef in Alahdadpur village under Harduaganj police station limits in Aligarh, police said on Monday.
Nadeem, Aqeel, Arbaz and Qadeem were transporting some meat from Al-Ammar Frozen Foods, a licensed facility, on Sunday evening when they were intercepted by the group.
The mob overturned their vehicle, threw the meat on the road, and attacked them with belts and wooden and iron rods. The assailants also robbed their mobile phones and cash. The victims were admitted to JN Medical College, where they are recovering. The attackers also allegedly attempted to extort Rs 50,000 from the traders, according to a complaint filed by Salim Khan, Aqeel's father.
The complaint said the assault followed their refusal to pay.
Police and senior officers, including Aligarh (rural) SP Amrit Jain, reached the spot soon after receiving information. "The men were given protection and taken to hospital. Their condition is stable," Jain said. "We have sent the meat samples to a lab in Mathura. Results are awaited," Jain added. Authorities have not disclosed the identities of those arrested.

This was the second attack in two weeks involving the same victims and location. The previous incident ended with the vehicle's release after lab tests confirmed the meat was buffalo.
Police filed two separate FIRs. The first names 13 accused and 25 unidentified persons under BNS sections, including section 309 (attempt to murder) and robbery. The second FIR, based on a complaint from Vijay Bajrangi, charged the four traders under the Cow Slaughter Act, though no names were mentioned.
The incident drew sharp reactions. Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind president Maulana Mahmood Madani condemned the attack as "barbaric" and a threat to communal harmony. Former Aligarh mayor Mohammad Farqan called it "unimaginably brutal" and demanded justice. Police released a video statement asking the public to help identify other attackers. The investigation is ongoing.

American aviation student vanishes in New Zealand; Mother joins search as investigators urge public's help

Twenty-four-year-old William Henry 'Will' Johnson , an American studying aviation at Massey University , has been missing in New Zealand for at least nine days, leaving family and friends deeply concerned. Johnson was last seen between May 30 and June 1 in the Takaro area of Palmerston North, where he lived in a shared flat. His family received a single text on June 5, but since then, there's been no response to calls or messages. That silence, they say, is completely unlike him. 'William's disappearance is completely out of character. This is a young man who maintained regular contact with his family,' said private investigator Mike Gillam, leading the probe via his agency, The Investigators New Zealand. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Air conditioners without external unit. Gillam notes that Johnson was generally reliable and communicative, a trait that makes his abrupt silence all the more alarming. Live Events Police have assigned the case number P062813346, and although their public updates are minimal, Gillam confirms they are working in coordination. Video shows man pinned down at Newark airport, Indian consulate in touch with US authorities

The Indian Consulate in New York said they have gotten in touch with authorities in the United States after videos purportedly showing 'an Indian student' being handcuffed and pinned to the floor at the Newark airport came to light on Sunday night. Posted on X by an Indian-American entrepreneur, Kunal Jain, the videos and photographs showed an unidentified young individual handcuffed and crying at the airport. Jain, who tagged the Indian Embassy in Washington DC and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in his series of posts, said he was speaking in 'Haryanvi language and accent' and was pleading that the authorities were bent upon declaring him mentally unfit. Taking cognisance of this, the Indian Consulate in New York said on Monday evening, 'We have come across social media posts claiming that an Indian national is facing difficulties at Newark Liberty International Airport. We are in touch with local authorities in this regard.' The Consulate remains committed to the welfare of Indian nationals, they said. According to Jain, who said he witnessed the event firsthand, the young man appeared to be in distress and was crying as the Port Authority Police officers restrained him. There is no confirmation if the said individual has left Newark or has arrived in India, as per those aware of the matter. Authorities are presently trying to ascertain the date and time of the video, and the identity of the said individual, they said. Calling it a human tragedy, Jain wrote on X, 'I witnessed a young Indian student being deported from Newark Airport last night — handcuffed, crying, treated like a criminal. As an NRI, I felt helpless and heartbroken.' Photographs and video clips shared by Jain show the young man being restrained by officers from the Port Authority Police Department (PAPD), the agency responsible for law enforcement across major transport hubs in New York and New Jersey. A call made by The Indian Express to Port Authority Police Department at Newark International Airport didn't elicit any details, except for the officer saying that 'the PAPD doesn't get involved in deportations'.
