Jamaat condemns incidents of violence against Muslims

The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, a leading Muslim body, has said that recent incidents of violence against minorities are 'highly disturbing'. Referring to an incident in Aligarh where an angry mob accused four Muslim men of transporting beef and allegedly stripped them, and beat them with belts and sticks, the Jamaat vice-president Malik Motasim Khan said, 'It's highly disturbing but even more shocking is that the police registered cases against both the attackers and the victims under the Cow Slaughter Act. This is a total miscarriage of justice. Such actions embolden anti-social elements.' The police had earlier filed complaints against 38 people in the assault case under Sections 191(2) (rioting), 191(3) (unlawful assembly), 190 (unlawful assembly to commit an offence), 109 (attempt to murder), 308 (extortion), 310(2) (robbery) and 3(5) (joint criminal liability) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A meat sample was sent to a laboratory in Mathura. Following its examination, it was found that the meat was not beef. According to Mr. Khan, the Aligarh incident is not an isolated case of violence against the community members. 'India has witnessed a disturbing pattern of mob lynchings and hate crimes against Muslims, Dalits, and other marginalised groups in recent years, often under the guise of cow protection or love jihad. From the lynching of Abdul Rahiman in Bantwal, Karnataka, to the brutal killing of Ashraf in Mangaluru, to communal clashes in Nagpur and the targeted harassment of Kashmiri Muslims across the country, these incidents are a stain on our nation's conscience. Despite the Supreme Court's 2018 ruling against mob lynching, compliance remains patchy, and accountability is rare,' he said. 'The fear of the law needs to be reinforced, and a climate of impunity dismantled. The targeting of Muslims not only erodes the fabric of our secular democracy but also threatens India's unity and security. The government must act swiftly, hold the perpetrators accountable, ensure the safety of minorities, and restore public faith in justice and the rule of law,' he said. The Jamaat also condemned what it called 'bulldozer injustice'. 'The Jamaat condemns the ongoing illegal and inhumane demolitions of Muslim properties, homes, and educational institutions, particularly the recent bulldozer actions in Uttar Pradesh.' Mr. Khan highlighted the alleged singling out of madrasas or Islamic seminaries for punitive action. 'A recent fact-finding visit by a JIH delegation to districts like Bahraich and Shravasti revealed that several madrasas with valid registrations and approval have been sealed or demolished without due process, violating the fundamental rights of Muslim citizens. These demolitions, often justified under the guise of 'law and order' or 'illegal construction', disproportionately target minorities, especially Muslims. The practice of using bulldozers as instruments of punishment without trial or due process has turned the police and administration into judge, jury, and executioner. This is a clear violation of constitutional norms and a grave threat to our democratic fabric,' he said, adding, 'The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind reiterates the Supreme Court observation that 'properties cannot be demolished merely because they belong to a person accused of a crime'. We urge the administration to adhere to the guidelines issued by the apex court to uphold the rule of law by preventing arbitrary demolitions.' Also read | 75% of hate speech events in BJP-ruled States: Report Mr. Khan alleged that 'demolition drives often take place in the aftermath of incidents of communal violence, where minority homes and institutions are selectively targeted, while the perpetrators of violence enjoy complete impunity. These actions create an environment of fear and insecurity within the Muslim community'. He demanded an immediate halt to bulldozer actions and sought accountability of officials responsible for demolition.

Aligarh mob attack: Buffalo meat, not beef, says FSl report

Agra: The meat being transported by four traders, brutally assaulted by a mob in Aligarh's Alahdadpur village last week, was buffalo meat, not beef, as alleged by the attackers, police confirmed on Wednesday citing a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report. The four men—Nadeem, Aqeel, Arbaz, and Qadeem (all in their 30s)—were carrying meat sourced from a licensed processing unit when they were waylaid by a mob on Saturday under Harduaganj police limits. Their vehicle was overturned, the meat was thrown on the road and the traders were brutally beaten with belts, rods and sticks. DSP (Atrauli) Sarjana Singh said the forensic report contradicted the vigilantes' claims that the traders were transporting beef. A complaint filed by Aqeel's father, Salim Khan, alleged the attackers also looted mobile phones and cash, and demanded ₹50,000. He said the assault intensified after the traders refused to pay up. Police registered an FIR against 13 named and 25 unnamed persons under relevant BNS sections, including 309 (attempt to murder). A separate case was filed against the four injured men under the Cow Slaughter Act. "As many as four accused have been identified so far. Searches are on for the rest," SP (rural) Amrit Jail told TOI. Meanwhile, several opposition leaders, including Sanjay Singh (AAP), Chandrashekhar Azad (Azad Samaj Party), Imran Masood (Congress) and Ramji Lal Suman (SP), visited the injured at the hospital. Suman said, "It is good to hear that the lab report confirmed that it was buffalo meat. All culprits should be arrested and punished; they are anti-social elements who, in the name of cow slaughter, extort money." An administrative meeting was also held to address the incident. "Arrangements are being made to prevent future misunderstandings over meat transport. Related departments have been asked to draft appropriate policies," a senior official said. END

3 arrested after mob attacks 4 meat traders over beef suspicion

Agra: Three men have been arrested after a mob assaulted four meat traders, set their vehicle ablaze, and accused them of transporting beef in Alahdadpur village under Harduaganj police station limits in Aligarh, police said on Monday. Nadeem, Aqeel, Arbaz and Qadeem were transporting some meat from Al-Ammar Frozen Foods, a licensed facility, on Sunday evening when they were intercepted by the group. The mob overturned their vehicle, threw the meat on the road, and attacked them with belts and wooden and iron rods. The assailants also robbed their mobile phones and cash. The victims were admitted to JN Medical College, where they are recovering. The attackers also allegedly attempted to extort Rs 50,000 from the traders, according to a complaint filed by Salim Khan, Aqeel's father. The complaint said the assault followed their refusal to pay. Police and senior officers, including Aligarh (rural) SP Amrit Jain, reached the spot soon after receiving information. "The men were given protection and taken to hospital. Their condition is stable," Jain said. "We have sent the meat samples to a lab in Mathura. Results are awaited," Jain added. The second FIR, based on a complaint from Vijay Bajrangi, charged the four traders under the Cow Slaughter Act, though no names were mentioned. The incident drew sharp reactions. Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind president Maulana Mahmood Madani condemned the attack as "barbaric" and a threat to communal harmony. Former Aligarh mayor Mohammad Farqan called it "unimaginably brutal" and demanded justice. Police released a video statement asking the public to help identify other attackers. The investigation is ongoing.

Mob attack on meat traders in Aligarh sparks outrage

Agra: Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind president Maulana Mahmood Madani strongly condemned the mob assault on four meat traders from a minority community in Aligarh, calling the incident "barbaric and a blot" on the nation's conscience. The victims, accused of transporting beef, were allegedly carrying valid documentation proving otherwise, yet were stripped and brutally beaten. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in Alahdadpur village under Harduaganj police limits, when the traders — Nadeem, Aqeel, Arbaz, and Qadeem — were intercepted while transporting meat from a licensed factory in Roravar. The mob allegedly overturned the vehicle, scattered the meat on the road, and beat the four men with belts and sticks, leaving them bloodied. "Such acts of vigilante justice, especially when fuelled by religious bias, are eroding faith in law enforcement and disrupting communal harmony," said Maulana Madani. "Suspicion can never justify violence." Police struggled to disperse the crowd as locals blocked the road, raised religious slogans, and disrupted public order. "The meat was being transported to licensed shops," said SP (Rural) Amrit Jain. "The injured are being treated, and a sample has been sent to the forensic lab for testing. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Strict action will be taken." Photos of suspects present at the scene have been released. Action will follow." A delegation from Jamiat Ulama's Aligarh unit, led by Mufti Akbar Qasmi, visited the victims at JNMC Hospital. They extended moral and legal aid and submitted a report to the organisation's general secretary, Maulana Hakimuddin Qasmi. The report confirmed the victims were licensed meat traders and that their documents were ignored by the mob.

Supreme Court cancels bail of habitual cow smuggler accused

The Supreme Court on Monday cancelled the bail granted to alleged cow smuggler Nazim Khan. The bench comprising Justice Suryakant and Justice N. Kotishwar Singh accepted a review petition filed by the Rajasthan government and overturned the bail order previously issued in Khan's favour. Nearly six months ago, the apex court had granted bail to Khan. However, the Rajasthan government later filed a review petition, citing that the accused was a habitual offender. As per official records, at least eight cases -- including those under the Cow Slaughter Act, Gangster Act, Arms Act, and for attempt to murder -- are registered against him across various police stations in Uttar Pradesh. Khan has been declared a fugitive in five of these cases, and multiple non-bailable warrants have been issued for his arrest. In the present case as well, he had been absconding for more than three years until he was apprehended from Aligarh Jail in April 2024, where he was already lodged in connection with other cow smuggling cases. Additional Advocate General Shiv Mangal Sharma told the court that Khan had been granted bail on October 21, 2024, in the absence of a government lawyer, which prevented the court from being apprised of the full extent of Khan's criminal background. Upon reviewing the fresh petition and new evidence, the Supreme Court observed that leniency cannot be extended to habitual offenders who pose a threat to public order by continuously flouting the law. According to the police report, Nazim Khan was involved in a major cow smuggling case along with his associates. On February 13, 2021, a container truck suspected of transporting cattle was intercepted during a patrol in the Nadauti police station area of Karauli district in Rajasthan. The vehicle, which originated from Gangapur city, was found to be carrying 26 cows of varying ages. Unfortunately, three calves (aged 3–6 years) and one adult cow (around five years old) were found dead inside. While the driver and one other accused were arrested at the scene, Khan managed to evade capture. He remained scot free until his arrest on April 30, 2024. The Supreme Court's decision marks a significant development in the fight against organised cattle smuggling and reinforces the judiciary's stance on habitual criminal offenders, said officials.
