Al-Azhar Delegation Urges Global Action to End Gaza Aggression at China Tolerance Conference
Mohamed Mandour A high-level delegation from Egypt's Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif participated in an international conference in China on religious tolerance and combating discrimination, calling for sustained global pressure to halt the ongoing aggression in Gaza. The delegation included Abbas Shoman, secretary-general of the Council of Senior Scholars and president of the World Association of Al-Azhar Graduates; Mohamed El-Gendy, secretary-general of the Islamic Research Academy; and Hassan Khalil, assistant secretary-general for Islamic culture at the academy. The event, hosted by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences under the banner 'Religious Tolerance and Combating Discrimination within the Framework of the Global Civilization Initiative,' drew prominent religious leaders and scholars from around the world. In his address, Shoman said the diversity of religions and sects reflects divine will, and that Islam advocates for the unity of humanity while rejecting discrimination based on religion, ethnicity, or color. Dialogue and mutual understanding, he said, are the best tools to bridge differences — not the so-called 'clash of civilizations.' He urged the international community to pressure decision-makers to end conflicts and resource exploitation, and to act urgently to stop wars, 'foremost among them the Zionist aggression on Gaza.' El-Gendy emphasized that religious tolerance is a cornerstone of civilization-building and a necessity for nations seeking endurance. He credited the global tours of Al-Azhar's Grand Imam with fostering interfaith dialogue, rejecting racism, and opposing policies of oppression and exclusion. Khalil, speaking in a session on overcoming civilizational clashes, described Al-Azhar's mission as one of peace, justice, and the defense of human dignity, stressing that religions were revealed as a mercy to humanity, not a source of division. Al-Azhar leaders pledged to continue promoting peace, protecting human fraternity, and engaging diverse cultures on the basis of mutual respect and shared values. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani

Al-Azhar Grand Imam Offers Condolences to Palestinian Doctor Alaa Al-Najjar on Martyrdom of Her Nine Children in Heinous Israeli Airstrike
Mohamed Mandour Dr. Ahmed At-Tayyeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif, extends his heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to the steadfast Palestinian mother and physician, Dr. Alaa Al-Najjar, following the martyrdom of her nine children and the injury of her husband and only surviving child, in a treacherous Israeli airstrike that targeted their home in the Gaza Strip. The Grand Imam condemned the atrocity as a horrific crime that epitomizes the ugliest forms of terrorism inflicted upon unarmed people who possess nothing but steadfastness and faith. He affirmed that the image of this steadfast mother receiving the charred bodies of her children, while continuing to fulfill her humanitarian duties at Nasser Medical Complex, is a cry to the conscience of the world. It lays bare the disturbing silence, and, indeed, the complicity, of some international actors who support the Israeli entity as it continues its crimes and massacres, unrestrained by human decency or accountability before history. The Grand Imam stressed that such crimes will neither extinguish the flame of truth nor diminish the Palestinian people's legitimate rights or their resolve to remain rooted in their land. Nor will they erase from the memory of the free peoples of the world the harrowing chapters of this ongoing injustice. He concluded by praying to Almighty Allah to envelop the martyrs in His vast mercy, raise them to the highest ranks, and make them a source of honor for their parents on the Day of Judgment. He also prayed that Allah grant their parents peace and comfort, and reward them abundantly for their endurance and faith; 'Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed unto Him we shall return.' Al-Azhar Celebrates with 1085th Hijri Anniversary of its Founding
Mohamed Mandour Under the esteemed patronage of Dr. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, a grand celebration will be held today at Al-Azhar Mosque to mark the 1085th Hijri anniversary of its founding. This annual event, observed on the seventh of Ramadan, will be attended by the Deputy of Al-Azhar and a distinguished gathering of senior scholars and leaders of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif. Al-Azhar was established by the Fatimid commander Jawhar al-Siqilli under the orders of Caliph Al-Mu'izz li-Din Allah. It was initially conceived as a congregational mosque for the newly established capital city of Cairo. Construction began in 970 CE, and the mosque was officially opened for prayer in 972 CE. The name Al-Azhar is generally thought to be a reference to Fatimah Al-Zahraa, the daughter of the prophet Muhammad. Al-Azhar quickly evolved into a major center of Islamic learning, attracting scholars from across the Muslim world. Al-Azhar Mosque stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of Islamic scholarship and culture. Its rich history, architectural grandeur, and continued importance make it a significant landmark in both Egypt and the wider Muslim world.
