Presidential Council calls for joint international–national investigation into Al-Dressi's fate

The Presidential Council has called for a transparent, impartial, and comprehensive investigation under the supervision of a joint (international–national) committee that possesses credibility, neutrality, and the capacity to uncover the fate of the House of Representatives member who has been forcibly disappeared for a year. The Council stressed that the investigation must ensure 'full disclosure of facts, achieve justice, and hold accountable anyone proven to be involved in acts that violate the law or undermine public trust in state institutions.' In a statement, the Council said it is following 'with great concern and sorrow' the footage and images attributed to MP Al-Dressi, which 'document conditions that are inconsistent with any legal or humanitarian standards.' The Council noted that these visuals constitute a grave violation of the dignity of the Libyan citizen and his elected representatives and raise serious questions about the circumstances of his disappearance, place of detention, and treatment. The Council expressed its full solidarity with the MP's family, tribe, colleagues, and all those affected by practices that contravene the rule of law. It voiced deep concern over the persistent ambiguity surrounding the case, especially in the absence of tangible results from the relevant authorities, allowing the controversy and uncertainty to persist without justice being served. The Presidential Council reaffirmed that this case, along with similar ones, can no longer tolerate further delays. It urged all competent authorities to fully cooperate with any adopted investigation mechanism to ensure accountability and protect the human rights of all citizens without discrimination. Photos and videos released on Monday showed MP Ibrahim Al-Dressi stripped of his clothes, shackled by an iron chain around his neck, and in a state of exhaustion due to what he had endured in his place of detention.
