Doctors, paramedics hold solidarity walk to praise Pakistan armed forces
LAHORE: Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI) Principal Prof. Al-Fareed Zafar has said that Pakistan's brave armed forces have again proved that wars are won not merely through numerical strength but by unwavering faith, exceptional courage and professional excellence. "By decisively defeating an adversary with significant numerical superiority, Pakistan's military has set a new global benchmark in strategic prowess and modern warfare capabilities," Zafar said while talking to the media and participants of a solidarity walk organized by PGMI to express gratitude towards the Pakistan armed forces and pay tribute to the martyrs. The participants who were carrying placards chanted slogans in support of Pakistan's defence institutions. Prof. Al-Fareed Zafar declared that the success of Operation 'Buny?n al-Mars?s' is a matter of national pride and a reflection of the unshakable will of 240 million Pakistanis. He stressed that Pakistan is a peace-loving country but remains fully prepared to thwart any form of aggression. He firmly stated that any hostile intent against the homeland would be dealt with a crushing response by the valiant soldiers of Pakistan. He emphasized that the strategic brilliance and bravery demonstrated during this operation effectively foiled the enemy's malicious ambitions and showcased the unmatched competence of Pakistan's armed forces. International Nurses Day marked
LAHORE: With the theme – 'Our nurses-our future–caring for nurses strengthens economies,' International Nurses Day was marked here like other parts of the world with a renewed pledge to ensure dignity, respect and professional development of nurses. To mark the day, different events were held in which the speakers highlighted the critical role of a healthy nursing workforce in supporting the overall healthcare system. They said that nurses are at the forefront of fighting epidemics and pandemics, providing high quality and respectful treatment and care. They highlighted the role of nurses in Covid-19 pandemic. Without nurses and other health workers, we will not win the battle against outbreak, they said. Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif in her message on the International Nurses Day said, 'Nurses are respected in every society. Every society is proud of their nurses who serve and help the sick as well as helpless with care. Nurses are the embodiment of hope, courage and love in times of sickness, pain and helplessness.' She highlighted, 'Nursing is not just a profession but a sacred duty that is dedicated to the spirit of serving the ailing humanity day in and day out. The nurses served the nation without caring for their lives in every emergency situation including outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic across the globe. We can never forget these selfless sacrifices.' The CM maintained, 'The Punjab government is determined to ensure dignity, respect and professional development of nurses in all government hospitals across Punjab.' She added, 'The Punjab government is developing the nursing sector on modern lines. Language courses are also being conducted and all possible steps are being taken for the uplift of nursing sector in Punjab.' In line with the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a state-of-the-art Model Pharmacy has been established at Outdoor Department, Lahore General Hospital (LGH) to ensure the provision of high-quality, free medicines to patients without any discrimination. The pharmacy was formally inaugurated by Principal Ameer uddin Medical College (AMC) Prof Dr Al-Fareed Zafar. During the ceremony, he appreciated the efforts of MS LGH Prof. Prof Dr Al-Fareed Zafar stated that patients can get quality medicines free of cost from the Pharmacy between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm which will significantly reduce their difficulties and waiting time. Medical Superintendent Dr Faryad Hussain briefed the Principal and informed that seven separate counters have been established at the Pharmacy for the convenience of different patient groups including senior citizens, persons with disabilities, male and female patients and Government employees. Medical strike ends as Punjab declares health emergency
In response to Indian aggression targeting various parts of Punjab, the provincial government on Wednesday ordered the immediate closure of all public and private educational institutions, while placing hospitals on high alert to handle potential emergency situations. All intermediate and practical examinations scheduled for the day were cancelled by the Punjab Boards, including the Part-II Islamiyat and Accounting papers. Matriculation practical exams across all boards were also postponed. Colleges and universities suspended their semester exams, with new dates to be announced once the institutions reopen. The Punjab Health Department has directed all public hospitalsincluding District Headquarters (DHQs) and Tehsil Headquarters (THQs)to operate on a 24-hour emergency footing. Senior medical staff, including professors, doctors, nurses, and paramedics, were ordered to remain on duty without exception. In a significant development, the Grand Health Alliance, which had been on strike for over a month, suspended all protests and resumed duties to support emergency preparedness. Their return marks a unified response from the medical community amid heightened national tensions. A high-level security and preparedness meeting was convened at Lahore General Hospital (LGH), chaired by Prof Al-Fareed Zafar, Principal of Ameer Uddin Medical College and PGMI. The meeting was attended by senior faculty, administrative doctors, and hospital officials, including LGH Medical Superintendent Prof Dr Faryad Hussain and Dr. Umar Ishaq, MS of Punjab Institute of Neurosciences (PINS). Prof Zafar placed all LGH departments on high alert and appointed Prof. Armghan Israr Mirza as Director of Disaster Management to lead coordination across departments. Detailed briefings were held with each department to ensure readiness, with special emphasis on emergency supplies, availability of life-saving drugs, standby ambulances, functional operation theatres and uninterrupted power backup. Medical personnel were instructed to remain available at all times with their phones switched on and were prohibited from leaving their posts without prior approval. Coordination was also established with the Blood Donation Society of AMC to guarantee timely supply of blood during any mass casualty event. Reinforcing the need for discipline and national unity, Prof. Al-Fareed Zafar stated, "The country is in safe hands, and our Armed Forces have the full support of the nation. As medical professionals, we stand ready to work on the front lines around the clock, offering our services without hesitation in this critical time." He praised the nation's resilience and urged the medical community to uphold their responsibilities with dedication and professionalism.

Health facilities across Punjab put on high alert
LAHORE: In the wake of ongoing emergency situation amid Indian missiles attack, emergency has been declared in health facilities across Punjab and leaves of all kinds of doctors and paramedical staff has been cancelled. The Punjab health department has also evolved a contingency plan for providing round the clock quality and prompt healthcare services in case of any emergent situation. The health department has issued directions to heads of medical colleges in the Punjab, medical superintendents of all teachings hospitals and district and tehsil headquarters hospitals, heads of special health institutions and the director general and director of health services to take effective steps in this regard, sources said, adding: 'They have also been directed to provide efficient medical cover including standby arrangements for medical, surgical or special care expected in case of an emergent situation.' They have also been asked to ensure availability of senior administrators and medical staff besides issuing emergency duty rosters, emergency situation crisis management plans, life saving medicines, vaccines, disposables, linen and reserve beds. They have been directed to ensure that all bio-medical equipment and other machines, patient lifts, standby generators and operation theatres are in working condition. An emergent meeting of the Academic Council of Ameer uddin Medical College/PGMI was held under the chairmanship of Prof. Al-Fareed Zafar in which it was decided to place all LGH departments on high alert to effectively deal with any unforeseen circumstances or disaster scenario. Prof. Al-Fareed Zafar appointed Prof. Armghan Israr Mirza as Director of Disaster Management and directed to ensure full coordination across all departments to face any critical situation with courage and resilience. Principal LGH also directed the Director of Disaster Management to remain in constant liaison with the Blood Donation Society of Ameer uddin Medical College to ensure timely blood supply to injured patients when required. Prof. Al-Fareed Zafar instructed that life-saving drugs, required blood group stocks be ensured and that all healthcare professionals remain alert round the clock with their mobile phones switched on. He directed that no employee should leave his station without prior permission from the competent authority. Principal AMC also emphasized about ensuring the availability of beds in all wards beyond the Emergency Department, keeping all Operation Theatres and medical equipment fully functional, maintaining standby ambulances, updating generators and ensuring that security personnel remain vigilant following all SOPs. He stated that the country is in safe hands and emphasized the need for national unity.
