Libya and Germany discuss reviving Berlin Process to support political roadmap

The Presidential Council (PC) member Abdullah Al-Lafi met on Sunday with German Ambassador to Libya Ralf Tarraf to discuss ways to reinvigorate the political process and overcome the current political deadlock. The German ambassador briefed Al-Lafi on the outcomes of the latest meeting of the heads of the four working groups established under the Berlin Process — focusing on security, politics, economics, and humanitarian affairs. The meeting, which included the UN mission in Libya, resulted in a new strategy for the coming phase. Both sides emphasised the importance of adopting realistic and practical approaches to achieve progress and of focusing on quality outcomes and swift implementation to advance peaceful solutions and preserve stability. Al-Lafi praised Germany's central role in facilitating political dialogue and its ongoing support for the Presidential Council's efforts to maintain calm and encourage Libyan parties to resume negotiations. He stressed that the current phase requires serious international cooperation to avoid further complications. Meanwhile, Ambassador Tarraf reiterated Germany's full support for the council's efforts, especially in promoting stability and reconciliation, and reaffirmed Berlin's commitment to a comprehensive Libyan settlement rooted in the Berlin Process and aligned with UN-led efforts.
