UAE summer 2025 nears end; here's when

After enduring months of intense heat and soaring temperatures, UAE residents may soon find relief as the summer season approaches its end. Following one of the most intense summer stretches in recent memory, where temperatures in parts of the country soared beyond 50°C, the question on many minds has been: When will this summer finally end? According to Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Emirates Astronomical Society, August marks the final month of summer in the UAE by meteorological classification. In a recent tweet, Al Jarwan outlined key climate characteristics for August in the UAE, with average temperatures ranging from highs of 42°C to lows of 29°C. Relative humidity is also expected to peak at 82%, with lows around 28%. Before temperatures begin to ease, Al Jarwan noted the rising of the star Al-Mirzam on July 29, which marks the final days of the most intense summer heat. This star's appearance coincides with the end of the 'Ember of the Heat' season, which is characterized by intense heat and drought. It also signals the start of a slow atmospheric change, paving the way for the arrival of cooler mornings later in August. According to astronomical calculations, summer 2025 officially began on June 21 with the summer solstice, and will last for 93 days. The next season, autumn, is set to start on September 22, marking the gradual transition from the intense summer heat to cooler weather. But perhaps the most anticipated marker of change is the Suhail star. Traditionally observed by Gulf communities, the appearance of Suhail in the pre-dawn sky around late August is seen as the symbolic end of the extreme heat period and beginning of the transition to the post-summer period. Until then, residents are advised to continue observing heat safety guidelines: avoid sun exposure during peak hours, stay hydrated, and limit strenuous outdoor activity as August progresses. The countdown to cooler days has officially begun.

Dust to humidity: Kuwait weather to shift midweek

KUWAIT: Dusty weather is expected to continue until Tuesday evening. — File photo by Yasser Al-Zayyat KUWAIT: Dusty conditions will persist across Kuwait Tuesday as strong northwesterly winds continue to sweep through the country, the Kuwait Meteorological Department said on Monday. Acting Director of the Meteorological Department Dhirar Al-Ali told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that wind speeds are exceeding 60 kilometers per hour, significantly reducing visibility, especially in open areas. However, he noted that weather conditions are expected to improve by Tuesday evening. 'The country is currently under the influence of the Indian monsoon low, accompanied by a hot and dry air mass,' Al-Ali explained. 'This is driving moderate to strong northwesterly winds that are stirring up dust and raising sea waves up to six feet at times.' According to Al-Ali, winds will gradually begin to subside by Tuesday afternoon. Starting Tuesday evening, winds are expected to shift to a southeasterly direction along the coast, bringing a rise in humidity levels across the country - particularly in coastal areas. This humid spell is expected to last through Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Last Tuesday, Kuwait entered what meteorologists say is the hottest stretch of the year, a 13-day period when temperatures are expected to soar as high as 52°C in some parts of the country. The country's Meteorological Centre and the Ojairi Scientific Centre have warned that the extreme heat is part of a seasonal phase known locally as 'Al-Mirzam.' The period, which marks the peak of Kuwait's summer heat, will continue until August 10. The Mirzam phase signals the most intense stretch of the summer, after which the season gradually transitions into 'Al Kulaibin,' known for its oppressive humidity, and later into 'Suhail', when conditions begin to ease. — KUNA

Kuwait to Roast Under 13 Days of Extreme Heat

KUWAIT CITY, July 28: The Al-Ojairi Scientific Center revealed Kuwait will enter the penultimate phase of the summer season, known as 'Al-Mirzam' on Tuesday, July 29, reports Al-Seyassah daily. In a press release, the center explained that the Al-Mirzam period will last for 13 days, during which temperatures are expected to be extremely high. This period is also referred to as 'Jamrat Al-Qayz', meaning 'the fire of summer', indicating peak intensity of heat. Al-Mirzam marks a new phase in the summer season, followed by 'Al-Kulaibin', known for its humidity, and then 'Suhail'. The center highlighted that the date palm harvesting will begin next Wednesday. It explained that the name 'Al- Mirzam' is derived from the star of the same name, astronomically known as 'Sirius', which is known to be the brightest star in the sky due to its striking brilliance.
