Kuwait feels summer's final breath with Kleibeen onset

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 7, (Agencies): The Al-Ojairi Scientific Center announced that summer is entering its final phase starting Monday, August 11, with the arrival of the 'Kleibeen' season, which is considered one of the last periods marked by peak temperatures. In a press statement, the center explained that the Kleibeen season lasts for 13 days and marks the transition between the intense summer heat and the cooler season known as 'Suhail'. This period is characterized by intense heat accompanied by rising humidity levels, which help lower temperatures, due to the blowing southern and southeastern winds. The strong winds known locally as 'Al-Sumoom' calm down during this season, allowing the earth's surface to cool. By the end of the Kleibeen season, weather conditions begin to moderate, and temperatures gradually drop. The center clarified that the term 'Kleibeen' refers to two stars that are part of the Great Dog constellation, known to astronomers. During this time, nights lengthen as daylight hours decrease. Meanwhile, Kuwait will experience hot and humid weather this weekend, with forecasts warning of light fog and scattered rain. In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the acting Director of the Meteorological Department Dhirar Al-Ali explained that the country is expected to experience hot and humid weather in the coming days, with chances of light fog forming over some areas, particularly coastal areas, as well as scattered light rain. The weather this weekend will be hot and humid during the day, and hot to warm and humid at night. Weather maps indicate the country is currently affected by a hot and humid air mass, which increases the feeling of humidity, especially in coastal and surrounding areas. This is expected to be accompanied by light fog forming during late night and early morning hours in some areas. Low to medium clouds are expected to gradually build up, with chances of scattered light rain that may occasionally be accompanied by thunder. Rain chances are expected to increase gradually starting Friday evening and continue at intervals. On Friday, the weather will be hot and humid, especially in coastal areas, and partly cloudy, with light to moderate northeast to southeast winds ranging from 10 to 38 kilometers per hour. There is a chance of scattered light rain. Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 42 and 44 degrees Celsius, and sea conditions will be light to moderate, with wave heights between two and five feet. At night, the weather will be hot to warm and humid, particularly over coastal areas, with light to moderate variable to southeast winds at 8 to 38 kilometers per hour. There is a slight chance of scattered rain, possibly accompanied by thunder at times, along with the chance of fog forming in some areas. Minimum temperatures are expected to range between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius, and sea conditions will remain light to moderate, with wave heights between one and five feet.

Kuwait to Roast Under 13 Days of Extreme Heat

KUWAIT CITY, July 28: The Al-Ojairi Scientific Center revealed Kuwait will enter the penultimate phase of the summer season, known as 'Al-Mirzam' on Tuesday, July 29, reports Al-Seyassah daily. In a press release, the center explained that the Al-Mirzam period will last for 13 days, during which temperatures are expected to be extremely high. This period is also referred to as 'Jamrat Al-Qayz', meaning 'the fire of summer', indicating peak intensity of heat. Al-Mirzam marks a new phase in the summer season, followed by 'Al-Kulaibin', known for its humidity, and then 'Suhail'. The center highlighted that the date palm harvesting will begin next Wednesday. It explained that the name 'Al- Mirzam' is derived from the star of the same name, astronomically known as 'Sirius', which is known to be the brightest star in the sky due to its striking brilliance.

‘Strawberry Moon' to illuminate Kuwait on June 11

KUWAIT CITY, June 5: The Al-Ojairi Scientific Center announced on Wednesday that a full moon, known as the 'Strawberry Moon', will illuminate Kuwait's skies on June 11, reports Al-Seyassah daily. In a press statement, the center explained that the name comes from the strawberries that ripen in the Northern Hemisphere during this time. The month of June will witness several notable astronomical events. On June 7, the moon will reach its farthest point from Earth in its orbit, appearing slightly smaller than usual, and this phenomenon is called the 'moon at apogee.' On June 19, the moon will come into conjunction with the planet Saturn, passing about 23 degrees apart when the moon is 23 days old. This month will also witness the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky. This day, June 21, marks the official start of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. Jupiter will be in conjunction with the sun on June 24, passing close to the sun as it moves to the far side of the solar system. The following day, a new moon will appear, coinciding with the moon's perigee, its closest point to Earth, at a distance of approximately 1.01140 astronomical units from the sun. On June 30, the moon and Mars will share the same ascendant, with the moon passing 12 degrees north of Mars while being five days old.

Kuwait's real summer heat kicks in June 7th

KUWAIT CITY, May 24: The Al-Ojairi Scientific Center announced that the 'Al-Bateen' star season will begin on Sunday and last for 13 days, marking the final phase of the 'Al-Kanna' season. In a press statement, the center explained that this period is characterized by short shadows on some days and intense sunlight directly overhead. It also brings strong northwesterly winds and high daytime temperatures, often resulting in dust storms. During 'Al-Bateen', daylight extends to over 13 hours and 47 minutes, with sunset delayed until 6:38 p.m., and nights becoming shorter. Despite temperatures nearing 50°C, the center stated that the 'Thuraya' season, which is considered the actual beginning of summer, will start on June 7. The center also highlighted that dry conditions and a gradual temperature rise are expected over the next 13 days. It stated that during the 'Thuraya' season, temperatures are expected to reach high levels in several countries, including the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states. Meanwhile, despite the continuous remarkable rise in temperatures approaching 50 degrees Celsius, the closure of ministries and government agencies during the weekend led to a drop in the load index on Friday and Saturday by around 706 megawatts. The index recorded 16,294 megawatts, compared to about 17,000 megawatts on Thursday, which prompted the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy to implement scheduled power outages in some parts of 64 residential, agricultural and industrial areas. In the same context, the ministry announced on Saturday morning that it might be forced to cut off power in some parts of agricultural and industrial areas; including Wafra, Rawdatain, Abdally Agricultural Area, Mina Abdullah, Subhan, Shuwaikh Al-Rai and Sulaibiya Industrial Area. It excluded the residential areas in the scheduled power outages.
