Sultan Qaboos Road infrastructure repair work reaches 99% completion
Al Musanna: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology continues to implement the project to repair damages caused to Sultan Qaboos Road due to the monsoon weather conditions in the South Al Batinah and North Al Batinah governorates. This effort is part of the ministry's ongoing work to rehabilitate the road network and strengthen infrastructure. Mahmoud Khalfan Al Wahaibi, a civil engineer at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, explained that the project includes repairing damaged pavement layers and constructing several underpasses to facilitate vehicle movement. He pointed out that the most notable of these is the underpass currently under construction in Al Maladda area in the Wilayat of Al Musanna. Once opened, it will improve traffic flow on both sides of Sultan Qaboos Road and boost economic and social activity in the region, enhancing the road's infrastructure efficiency and reducing the impact of future weather conditions, he affirmed.

Participation opens for 3rd Al Batinah International Film Festival
Muscat: Oman Film Society, in cooperation with the North Al Batinah Governor's Office, has announced the opening of participation for the official competition of the 3rd Al Batinah International Film Festival, scheduled to take place during 27-30 October 2025. Participation will be accepted until 20 September through the festival's official online forms. Held biennially, the Al Batinah International Film Festival serves as a cultural and artistic platform aimed at promoting Oman and its governorates both locally and internationally, spreading cinematic culture within society, and stimulating artistic engagement among youth while enhancing the quality of Omani film production. This edition is organised under the supervision of Oman Film Society in partnership with several public and private sector institutions, as part of efforts to strengthen Oman's cinematic presence at regional and international levels. Oman Film Society invites all interested filmmakers, production companies, and cinema enthusiasts to submit their works across the festival's official competition categories.

National Museum's summer programme to boost creativity and cultural identity
Muscat: The National Museum launched the 'Our Summer: Heritage and Identity' programme, organised by the museum's Learning Centre, with support from bp Oman, to enhance participating students' awareness of national identity and consolidate the values of Omani cultural heritage. The summer programme targets three age groups: children (6 to 11 years old), school students (12 to 16 years old), and college and university students. During the current month of July, a number of artistic and interactive sessions inspired by the National Museum's collections will be implemented to contribute to developing the participants' skills and stimulating their creative abilities. Amina bint Abdullah Al Abri, Head of the Learning Centre at the National Museum, explained that the 'Our Summer: Heritage and Identity' programme is one of the annual initiatives the Learning Centre is keen to implement, aiming to instill the values of national identity and strengthen young people's connection to their cultural heritage through a creative and experimental approach that embodies the intersection of art and heritage. She pointed out that the National Museum is participating in the "Our Summer: Leadership and Creativity" programme in North Al Batinah Governorate, in cooperation with the Governor's Office, from July 6 to 10, 2025, through a group of artistic sessions organised by the Learning Centre within the framework of the Community Awareness Programme and the Children's Literature Reading Series Programme, and includes various fields, such as colouring, traditional architecture, and the history of Omani maritime navigation. She stated that the programme aims to instill national identity in the new generation through artistic educational methods that combine enjoyment and knowledge, as part of the National Museum's efforts to enhance its presence outside its premises and convey its cultural message, contributing to consolidating the values of national identity and heritage. The summer programme in North Al Batinah is held in a number of governorate's wilayats, namely: Sohar, Liwa, Shinas, Saham, Al Khabourah, and Suwaiq, to include (240) beneficiaries, while the Learning Centre implements the activities of the first programme at the headquarters of the National Museum for the age group (6-11 years) during the period from July 6-10, while the second and third programmes are implemented in the Learning Centre corner in Al Mouj Muscat, for the category of school students (12-16 years) and college and university students, respectively from (July 13-17) and from (July 20-24), to include (260) beneficiaries. It is worth noting that the Learning Centre at the National Museum is the first of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman. It is equipped according to the highest international standards and offers various educational programmes aimed at raising public awareness about Omani heritage, including: the School Visits Programme, the Colleges and Universities Programme, the Family Programme, the Community Awareness Programme, the Continuing Education Programme, the People with Disabilities Programme, and the Children's Literature Reading Series Programme. These programmes generate increased interest among all visitor categories in Oman's rich history.

Oman's inflation rate rises by 0.81%
Muscat: Oman's inflation rate rose by 0.81 percent during the first five months of this year, compared to the same period in 2024, according to consumer price index (CPI) data released by Oman Ministry of Economy. The Ministry stated in a report on Sunday that the general import price index increased by 1.3 percent, while the general producer price index rose by 4.1 percent by the end of the first quarter of 2025, compared to the same quarter last year. Geographically, the inflation rate saw a slight decrease of 0.04 percent in Al Batinah South Governorate by the end of Q1 2025. The highest inflation rates were recorded in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate at 1.58 percent, followed by Musandam at 1.51 percent, South Al Sharqiyah at 1.24 percent, Al Dhahirah at 1.09 percent, and Al Wusta at 1.06 percent. Video: Toxic gas leak at laboratory in Oman safely contained; no injuries reported
Authorities in the Sultanate of Oman reported on Sunday a leak of a toxic and harmful gas at a company's laboratory in the city of Sohar, assuring the public that the incident did not result in any injuries. Teams specialised in dealing with hazardous materials swiftly responded to the incident and was able to contain the substance safely, the Gulf country's Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority said on X. Sohar is the capital and largest city of Oman's northern Al Batinah North Governorate. The leaked substance was identified as sulfur dioxide gas (SO₂), which is known to be hazardous, posing risks to both human health and the environment—particularly when individuals are exposed to it in high concentrations or for prolonged durations. In a video shared by the authority, two men in red protective gear are seen entering the facility to handle the gas leak. Afterwards, they are sprayed with disinfectant to ensure their safety.
