Muscat: The police command in South Al Batinah have arrested a Syrian national for aiding the illegal entry of six Ethiopian nationals into the country. According to the South Al Batinah Governorate Police Command, the suspect arranged transportation for the individuals in a rented vehicle after prior coordination with another person of the same nationality. Investigations also revealed that he had previously been involved in smuggling other infiltrators into the country. Legal procedures are currently underway against the accused, Royal Oman Police added.

Muscat: Police command in North Al Batinah apprehended multiple suspects in two separate criminal incidents. In the first case, a citizen was arrested for deliberately setting fire to a vehicle in front of a residence in the Wilayat of Liwa. Meanwhile, in another incident in the Wilayat of Sohar, three citizens were detained for forcefully entering a residence and engaging in acts of vandalism and theft. The suspects reportedly stole several air conditioning units from a building. Royal Oman Police said: 'Legal proceedings against the suspects are currently underway.'

The ROP said in a statement :"The Coast Guard, led by the South Al Batinah Governorate Police, rescued two citizens whose boat sank off the coast of Musannah while they were out on a fishing trip. The boat was towed and the two citizens were brought to shore in good health."

Muscat: In an ongoing effort to regulate markets and eliminate banned substances that pose risks to public health, the Consumer Protection Authority in South Al Batinah, Rustaq, has successfully confiscated over 1,400 units of chewing tobacco and raw materials used in its production. CPA said in a statement: 'The operation, carried out in coordination with the Royal Oman Police and the Public Prosecution, followed a report indicating that a group of expatriate workers were engaged in manufacturing, distributing, and selling chewing tobacco in three locations in Al Musanah. Upon verifying the report, law enforcement officers conducted thorough investigations and managed to seize 1,408 items, including ready-to-sell chewing tobacco and its raw ingredients. The violators admitted to the charges, leading authorities to confiscate the illegal products and impose administrative fines. The Consumer Protection Authority emphasized that trading such banned products violates Article 7 of the Consumer Protection Law, which strictly prohibits the circulation of adulterated, counterfeit, or unauthorized goods, as well as their advertisement. The authority reaffirmed its commitment to taking legal action against violators to protect consumer safety. It urged the public to remain vigilant, adhere to consumer protection laws, and report any illegal practices observed in local markets through official communication channels.

Oman to award consultancy contract for rehabilitation and wellness centre in Q3

Oman's Ministry of Health is expected to award the design and supervision consultancy contract for the National Rehabilitation and Wellness Centre located in Al Madina Azarqa, South Al Batinah Governorate, in the third quarter of 2025, a source aware of the details said. The tender, issued on 19 March 2025, attracted bids from several qualified firms, including Khatib & Alami, Design Group Engineering Consultancy, HEC Engineering Consultancy, Hoehler and Al Salmy, Al Hammy Engineering Consultancy, Arab Engineering, and Dar Al Handasah. Bid submissions closed on 30 April 2025. 'The contract award is expected in July 2025,' the source said, adding that project completion is targeted for the first quarter of 2027.
