UAE: Expat couple killed in accident, survived by three children including infant
An Indian couple were killed in a car accident in Al Dhannah City on Thursday morning, according to social workers.
The couple were driving in from Abu Dhabi when the incident occurred at 3am, social workers assisting the family with their case said. All three of their children, aged between four months and eleven years, are in a private hospital, with at least one of them still critical.
'It is not clear what caused the accident,' said a social worker who did not want to be identified. 'We were contacted by family members of the couple seeking help to repatriate their bodies to India. We liaised with the Indian embassy in Abu Dhabi and fast-tracked the process on humanitarian basis. The couple's body was sent home on Friday evening and was received by family members on Saturday morning.'
Funeral prayers
On Friday evening, Janazah UAE posted on their X account about funeral prayers for the deceased couple after the evening Maghrib prayers.
The husband was identified as Syed Waheed and the wife was named Sana Beeghum. 'The mosque was packed with people for the funeral prayers,' said the social worker. 'The couple were so young and the whole situation was so heartbreaking.'
On LinkedIn, it shows that Syed Waheed was a cybersecurity professional and has been in the UAE since 2018. Several of his colleagues took to social media platforms to share their sorrow and asking for friends and family to pray for their children.
Hailing from the southern Indian state of Telangana, the couple lived in Al Dhannah City, formerly named Ruwais. According to the social worker, close family members are currently taking care of their children while they are in hospital.
'We heard from some of the relatives that one of the children keeps asking for their mom,' he said. 'It is truly a tragic situation.'
