Muscat, April 9 On behalf of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, HH Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs will patronise over the closing ceremony of His Majesty the Sultan's Camel Racing Cup Festival 2025, on Thursday. The event is being held at the Royal Camel Corps racetrack in Al Fulaij, the Wilayat of Barka, and is organised by the Royal Court Affairs, represented by the Royal Camel Corps. The final day will witness six main races, with the winner of the fifth race, designated for the 'Al Hawl', 8 km, being crowned with the Sultan's Cup – considered one of the most prestigious titles in camel racing in the Sultanate of Oman. The closing ceremony will also include traditional Omani musical segments, along with special camel back performances presented by the Royal Camel Corps, creating a scene that reflects the deep rooted bond between Omanis and camels as a cherished part of their heritage and culture. The organisation of this festival affirms the royal patronage and ongoing support of His Majesty the Sultan for the camel racing sector. It also aims to preserve the purebred Omani camel lineages and safeguard this rich national heritage, ensuring its continuity and transmission to future generations. WEDNESDAY'S RACES The competitions held on Wednesday featured a total of seven races — three for the 'Thanaya' category and four for the 'Al Hawl', each covering a distance of 8 km. In the Thanaya races, Al Shamikha, owned by Hamad Ali al Mushaikhi, claimed first place in the opening race, earning an icon and a car. Injaz, owned by Said al Jadaili, finished second, while Hadath, owned by Issa al Touqi, came in third. In the second race, Al Million, owned by Luaihi al Jahafi, secured first place and was awarded a dagger and a car. Al Hathar, owned by Hamid al Durai, finished second, and Al Shami, owned by Jassim al Habsi, took third place. The third race saw Sada, owned by Sami al Jnaibi, winning first place and a car, followed by Isnad, owned by Ali al Amri, in second, and Al Bahiya, owned by Mohammed al Jahafi, in third. In the 'Al Hawl' category, Al Tamas, owned by Hilal al Shaidi, emerged victorious in the first race, receiving a Shaddad and a car. Mubashira, owned by Hamad al Waheebi, came in second, and Al Shahiniya, owned by Hamid al Jahafi, placed third. The second race was won by Al Muheet, owned by Saad al Jnaibi, who earned a dagger and a cash prize. Marmouq, owned by Saleh al Owaisi, came in second, while Makhlab, owned by Hamid al Amri, finished third. In the third race, Mayassa, representing the Royal Camel Corps and trained by Saif al Habsi, took first place along with a cash prize. Mansoura, owned by Bati al Maliki, finished second, and Samha, owned by Qais al Saeedi, secured third. The final race of the day was won by Harbah, owned by Said al Hashmi, who earned a cash prize. Hawayel, owned by Mohammed al Jnaibi, claimed second place, while Al Shahiniya, owned by Khalid al Waheebi, finished third.

MUSCAT, FEB 15: The UAE's Hamloula, Hadbah, Al Anood and Al Faydah emerged victorious on the final day of the eighth edition of the Al Bashayer Festival for Purebred Arabian Camel Racing 2025, held on Saturday afternoon. The closing ceremony at Al Bashayer Arabian Camel Racecourse in the Wilayat of Adam was presided over by His Highness Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs, Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan. As one of the most prestigious sporting events in the Sultanate of Oman, the festival attracts a significant number of camel owners and trainers from across the GCC. The event, supported by HH Sayyid Asaad, aims to promote equestrian sports in Oman while preserving the nation's cultural heritage. 'The festival reinforces Oman's deep-rooted traditions in line with Royal directives. It fosters an integrated sports environment that encourages younger generations to embrace our authentic customs,' HH Sayyid Asaad stated. The six-day festival saw the participation of over 5,320 camels from across the GCC, competing in 84 races for prestigious prizes, including 20 cars, three daggers, three guns, seven cups, and the coveted golden and silver swords. February 12: 'Yathaa' (4 years old, 6 km) — 11 morning races with cash prizes; 4 afternoon races with four cars, two cups and a gun for winners. February 13: 'Thanaya' (5 years old, 8 km) and 'Al Hawl' (6 years and above) — four races in each category with daggers awarded in the main rounds. Afternoon competitions featured human riders, including a 1,500m sprint and a 12 km main race with an SUV car for the winner. February 14: Cultural events and exhibitions, including a Bedouin village, a marketing corner and an Entrepreneurs Exhibition with participation from women's associations. February 15: The grand finale featured four main races (8 km each) for the older category. Muscat, JAN 28 Amjad, owned by the Royal Camel Corps, and Amani, owned by UAE's Ali bin Khalifa al Rumaithi, claimed golden daggers and cars on the fourth day of the Annual Camel Race in Suhar on Tuesday. Muheith, owned by Mohammed al Mashaikhi, and Humaid bin Hamad al Amri won the cars. The race, held from January 25 to 30 at the Wilayat of Suhar camel race track, is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, represented by the Oman Camel Racing Federation (OCRF). The event is one of the 23 events set for the 22nd edition of the annual camel races for the 2024-2025 season. The six-day competition will feature 100 rounds, with participation from camels representing the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC. This year's event will award over 1,000 prizes, including 24 cars, 15 daggers, 6 icons, silver and golden swords, and cash prizes for the top ten winners. The opening day on Saturday morning witnessed 15 rounds dedicated to the 'Hagayeg' category—two-year-old camels racing over a distance of 4 km—with cash prizes for the top ten winners. On the second day, 15 rounds were held in the morning session for the same category, followed by 8 rounds in the afternoon. Prizes for the afternoon rounds included 8 cars, 3 daggers, and 2 icons. The third day, Monday, witnessed 18 rounds with cash prizes for the 'Laqaya' category, for three-year-old camels over a distance of 5 km, while in the afternoon the category concluded with 7 rounds, offering 7 car prizes, three daggers, and two icons. The fourth day, Tuesday, witnessed 13 rounds for the 'Al Ythaa' category, with four-year-old camels racing over 6 km, while the main rounds kicked off in the afternoon with 5 rounds featuring four cars, two daggers, and two icons. The fifth day competitions continue with 12 rounds over a distance of 8 km; six rounds will be for the 'Al Thanaya' category, five years old with two daggers, and six rounds allocated for the 'Al Hawl' category with two daggers as prizes. In addition to the one round for human riders over a distance of 2 km for daggers, all rounds will have cash prizes for the top ten finishers. The Oman Camel Racing Federation announced certain participation conditions, which are limited to purebred camels, with the use of blood stimulants, stimulating substances, or electric shocks strictly prohibited. Shaikh Said bin Saud al Ghafili, Chairman of the Oman Camel Racing Federation, said: 'Camel racing represents an Omani heritage that is passed down from generation to generation and enjoys great interest and support from all segments of society. Camel owners and trainers compete to participate and win various prizes, in addition to the economic benefits derived from buying and selling camels in Oman and globally.' SUHAR, JAN 29 Mashkoor owned by Hamad al Amri was the hero of human rider's round on the fifth day of the Annual Camel Race in Suhar on Wednesday. The fifth day's daggers were snatched by Al Wasmiyah owned by Salim al Hishami, Mublish owned by Ali al Maliki, Al Anoud owned by Ali al Rumaithi and Mikhlab owned by Humaid bin Hamad al Amri. The race, organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MoCSY) through the Oman Camel Racing Federation (OCRF), runs from January 25 to 30. It is part of the 22nd edition of the annual camel racing season for 2024-2025, featuring 23 events. Spanning six days, the competition includes 100 rounds with participation of around 2000 camels representing Oman and the GCC. Over 1,000 prizes are set to be awarded, including 24 cars, 15 daggers, six icons, silver and golden swords, along with cash prizes for the top ten winners in each race. On the fifth day, competitions continued with 12 rounds over a distance of 8 km; six rounds were run in the 'Al Thanaya' category, five years old with two daggers, and six rounds were allocated for the 'Al Hawl' category with two daggers as prizes. In addition, a 2 km-long round for human riders for daggers was held. All rounds had cash prizes for the top 10 finishers. On Thursday, the concluding competitions will be held in the afternoon with six main rounds: two rounds will be for Al Thanaya category (8 km) with SUV cars and golden dagger, and two rounds for Al Hawl category (8 km) with SUV cars and gold and silver swords. In the two rounds for human riders (2 km), valuable cars will be awarded to the winners, while the top 10 will get cash prizes. The concluding ceremony will be under the auspices of Shaikh Suba'a bin Hamdan al Saadi, Secretary-General of the Secretariat-General of National Celebrations, in presence of Shaikh Said bin Saud al Ghufaili, Chairman of the Oman Camel Racing Federation.
