Largest blood drive returns for 27th year
TDT | Manama Bahrain's largest blood donation initiative, the Imam Hussein (PBUH) Blood Donation Campaign, will mark its 27th edition this year under the slogan 'Blood in Your Name', with preparations already underway. Scheduled to take place on the 8th and 9th of Muharram, the campaign will once again be hosted at Al Hilal Medical Center - Manama Central, in partnership with Al Hilal Healthcare Group and in coordination with the Ministry of Health. Dr Fadel Al-Nasheet, Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee, expressed appreciation for the support of the Ministry of Health, led by Her Excellency Dr Jalila bint AlSayed Jawad Hassan. He also thanked Al Hilal Healthcare Group for hosting the campaign for a second year, highlighting its role in strengthening community partnerships. The committee has been holding coordination meetings with Al Hilal officials to finalise preparations, including upgrades to the electronic appointment system to ensure a smoother donation process. Dr Al-Nasheet said the overwhelming response each year reflects Bahrainis' deep-rooted generosity and interfaith solidarity during Ashura, inspired by the legacy of Imam Hussein (PBUH). Dr Sharath Chandran, CEO of Al Hilal Healthcare Group, said the group is proud to host the campaign again, underlining its commitment to community service. He said the group's teams would spare no effort in making the event successful, stressing that blood donations can transform lives and preserve a noble tradition of helping others in hardship. Enduring legacy The campaign began in 2000 as a grassroots initiative led by residents of Al-Naeem and the Naim Charitable Society (formerly Naim Charitable Fund), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health. It has since grown into a national movement that has supplied 16,526 blood bags to the Central Blood Bank, including 49 bags from a special edition held in December 2024. The event continues to be one of Bahrain's most enduring symbols of humanitarian unity, carrying forward the values of sacrifice and service championed by Imam Hussein (PBUH).

Bahrain: Al Hilal Healthcare Group acquires major hospital
Bahrain - Al Hilal Healthcare Group, the largest private healthcare provider in Bahrain, has acquired Middle East Hospital, Segaya, and has launched it as Al Hilal Premier Hospital. The hi-tech facility will be the 10th branch and the second hospital of the Al Hilal Healthcare Group in the kingdom. The Group held a Press meet yesterday to officially announce its acquisition of Middle East Hospital – now rebranded as Al Hilal Premier Hospital. The Press meet and soft launch took place at Al Hilal Premier Hospital, in the presence of Al Hilal Healthcare Group managing directors Dr P A Mohammed and Mr Abdul Latheef, chief executive Dr Sharath Chandran, business and strategy vice president Asif Mohammed, finance manager Sahal Jamaludheen, group head-medical affairs and Bahrain Medical Society president Dr Amer Al Derazi. Media representatives, influencers and industry leaders were also present. The event featured the new logo launch and a teaser video release. 'The acquisition underscores the group's ongoing commitment to enhancing the quality, accessibility, and diversity of healthcare services across the kingdom,' Al Hilal Healthcare Group said in a statement yesterday. 'Al Hilal Premier Hospital will unveil a new era of exceptional healthcare services, offering world-class healthcare experience, advanced surgical procedures and a highly skilled team of doctors and surgeons with exceptional customer services – all under one roof,' it added. The 65-bedded hospital will offer a wide range of specialised services and medical specialities, including cardiology, gastroenterology, urology, general medicine, general surgery, bariatric surgery, paediatrics, ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat), obstetrics and gynaecology, dentistry, orthopaedics, internal medicine, neurology, neurosurgery and more. It will provide cutting-edge medical treatments and personalised care under the supervision of a team of highly qualified and experienced medical professionals. With a strong focus on patient care, Al Hilal Premier Hospital aims to cater to the diverse healthcare needs of Bahrain's residents. 'I am so happy to announce the largest healthcare acquisition of the kingdom,' Dr Mohammed said. 'Our acquisition of Middle East Hospital is a significant step in strengthening our operational capabilities. Al Hilal Healthcare Hosts Iftar Event
The holy month of Ramadan is a season of spiritual reflection, harmony, and cherishing the values of compassion.
