Jordan: Wholesale trade prices increase by 1.09% in H1 2025

AMMAN — The Department of Statistics (DoS) on Sunday issued its quarterly report on the Wholesale Trade Price Index (WPI), which monitored an increase in the General WPI for the first half of 2025 by 1.09 per cent compared with the same period in 2024. GWPI for the second quarter of 2025 increased by 1.08 per cent compared with the corresponding quarter of 2024, and the WPI for the second quarter increased by 0.25 per cent compared with the previous quarter, the public service TV Al Mamlaka reported. The GWPI index for the first half of 2025 stood at 108.88 points compared with 107.70 for the same period in 2024. The index for the second quarter of 2025 stood at 109.02 points compared with 107.85 for the same quarter of 2024. The GWPI for the second quarter of 2025 recorded 109.02 points compared with 108.74 compared with the previous quarter of the same year. Comparing the cumulative index for the first half of 2025 with the same period in 2024, the prices of the group "sale of motor vehicles, parts and motorcycles" recorded the highest increase by 2.87 per cent, with a relative importance of 20.70 per cent. At the level of commodity groups, the increase in the index for the second quarter of 2025 compared with the second quarter of 2024 was due to the increase of the prices of the group "sale of motor vehicles, parts and motorcycles" by 2.76 per cent, which constituted 20.70 per cent of relative importance. Meanwhile, the prices of the group "sale of fuels, metals, construction materials and supplies" saw the highest decrease by 0.61 per cent, constituting 24.35 per cent of its relative importance. Among the most prominent commodity groups that contributed to the increase in the GWPI for the second quarter of 2025 compared with the previous quarter, the prices of the group "sale of machinery, equipment and accessories" increased the most by 0.89 per cent, constituting 11.50 per cent. AMMAN — The Industrial Producer Price Index (PPI) for the first half of 2025 stood at 106.86 points, compared with 107.34 points for the same period in 2024, marking a decrease of 0.44 per cent, according to the Department of Statistics (DoS). The DoS monthly report, monitored on Wednesday, showed that the cumulative index for the first half of 2025 declined by 0.59 per cent in manufacturing prices, while prices in the extractive industries and electricity both rising to 0.48 per cent and 0.88 per cent, respectively. The monthly report also showed that the index for June 2025 stood at 106.86 points, compared with 107.05 points in June 2024, marking a drop of 0.18 per cent, according to public service TV Al Mamlaka. The monthly decline was driven by a 0.70 per cent drop in manufacturing prices, while prices in the extractive industries sector increased by 5.47 per cent and electricity prices rose by 2.44 per cent. Compared with May 2025, the index for June reached 106.86 points versus 106.60 points in the previous month, marking a 0.41 per cent increase. AMMAN — The total value of bounced cheques in Jordan fell to JD109 million in July, marking a 3.2 per cent decline compared with JD113 million recorded in June, the Jordan Payment and Clearing Systems Company (JoPACC) said on Tuesday. Data from JoPACC, cited by the public service TV Al Mamlaka, showed that 17,300 cheques were returned last month. Of these, 65.2 per cent were bounced due to insufficient funds, totalling JD76.5 million, while the remaining 34.8 per cent were returned for technical reasons, amounting to JD36.7 million. The number of cheques processed in July also saw a slight decrease of 2.1 per cent, with 551,000 cheques in circulation, compared with 562,000 in June. Despite the drop in returned cheques, the overall value of cheques circulated in the market rose by 9.8 per cent in July, reaching JD3.68 billion, JoPACC said. During the first seven months of 2025, cheques worth a total of JD23.27 billion were circulated in Jordan. JHCO says 28-truck aid convoy crossed into Gaza on Tuesday

AMMAN — The Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) announced that a new 28-truck aid convoy, loaded with food supplies, crossed from Jordan into Gaza on Tuesday evening. JHCO Secretary-General Hussein Shibli said that the shipment falls within Jordan's continued efforts to support the people of Gaza. He told the public service TV Al Mamlaka that land aid convoys and airdrop operations are continuing to deliver relief to beseiged Gaza 'by all possible means.' He added that Jordan has sent 282 aid trucks to the Gaza Strip over the past two weeks, of which 220 have entered the strip so far.
