Man City chief sends message to fans waiting for verdict on 130 charges hearing

Manchester City and the Premier League are still waiting for the independent commission's verdict on the 130 charges the club face over the alleged breaking of financial fair play rules Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has urged fans to remain patient with the club still waiting on the verdict of the 130 charges they face. The Premier League charged City back in February 2023. The club were accused of breaking financial fair play rules over a nine-year period, which started in 2009 and went on until 2018. They have also been charged with failing to co-operate with Premier League investigations into their finances. ‌ The Premier League allege City failed to provide accurate financial information. It is also alleged that City they didn't fully disclose the financial remunerations that were made to one of their managers over a four-year period. ‌ City are also accused of failing to comply with UEFA's FFP rules over a five-year period. For their part, the club deny all the charges and a 10-week trial was heard by an independent panel earlier this year. A verdict was originally expected in Spring 2025, but there is still no sign of it being published. Al Mubarak has now reiterated that supporters need to stay patient while the wait continues. He told City's club website: 'Well, I suppose the only thing I can say is we still don't have a ruling. Once there's a ruling, I'll be able to speak about it. Until then we just have to be patient, and it'll come, and we will talk about it, I promise you, once we have the ruling.' ‌ With the charges hanging over the club, they endured a difficult season, finishing third in the Premier League. It is just the second time in Pep Guardiola's career that his team has finished outside the top two of their division. City also failed to win a major trophy, though their third-place finish did ensure qualification for the Champions League. Al Mubarak has insisted City have learned their lessons and expects the club to be active players in the summer transfer market. ‌ 'I can tell you today, we have clearly identified who exactly are the targets, in what positions, and we have our clear number one option, our clear number two option,' he added. 'And we'll go about our business, and it will be very clear, very swift. Our objective is to try to be ready with the new squad for the Club World Cup. We will be back. This season is a season that's now behind us. Today is a new day. "We start working and preparing for next season. And by the way, we've been doing that since January. And we will take all the good things and the not so good things from this season and learn from it and improve from it and get better. 'And I can assure you, this Club will do everything possible to come back to the standards that we know we all can achieve and that we know, we will achieve. Because really, if there's one thing I'd like right now, it's to turn that page from last season and just immediately start focusing on next season.'

Premier League clubs agreed to open a pre-Club World Cup transfer window, opens new tab on June 1 for 10 days to allow teams to sign players before the tournament. "We have clearly identified who exactly are the targets, in what positions, and we have our clear number one option, our clear number two option," Al Mubarak said in an interview with City's club media channels. "And we'll go about our business and it will be very clear, very swift. And our objective is to try to be ready with the new squad for the Club World Cup." City face Wydad AC in their first game of the tournament on June 18. The team, bidding for a fifth successive Premier League title, suffered a mid-season free fall and finished third in the table, not securing a Champions League berth until the final day of the season. Al Mubarak admitted City had not been successful in last summer's transfer window. "Last summer, we probably should have been more aggressive in some of the changes we needed to do," Al Mubarak said. "We didn't do that and that ended up costing us this year. We already started that rebuild of this team in January." City brought in Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis and Nico Gonzalez during the January window. They lost to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final, however, and ended the season without a trophy for the first time since 2016-17. "I think all the players, they're excited, they're excited about coming back. Nobody feels good about how we finished the season," Al Mubarak said. "They want to come back hungry. And I can see the hunger. I was speaking to Rodri as an example, he's looking for games. Erling (Haaland) didn't want to go on vacation." Spanish midfielder Rodri, the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner, suffered a serious knee injury in September and did not return to action until the season's final two games.

Manchester City's Khaldoon Al Mubarak reviews season, trusts Guardiola, prides on De Bruyne

29 May 2025 23:01 KUUMAR SHYAM (ABU DHABI)Manchester City Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has expressed confidence and optimism about the future of the club despite a season that fell short of their recent high standards. In his annual end-of-season interview, Al Mubarak acknowledged the disappointment of not defending the Premier League title and a poor showing in the UEFA Champions League, but emphasised the club's commitment to learn, adapt, and come back stronger.'This season is a season that's now behind us,' said Al Mubarak. 'And we will take all the good things and the not so good things from this season and learn from them and improve them and get better.'This season's campaign marked a rare dip in what has otherwise been an era of dominance for City under manager Pep Guardiola. The team, which had captured a historic treble the previous season, finished third in the league and failed to reach the last-16 of the Champions League. Still, Al Mubarak maintained a firm belief that the club remains on the right track and will quickly rebound. 'I can assure you, this club will do everything possible to come back to the standards that we know we all can achieve and that we know we will achieve,' he stated. 'If there's one thing I'd like right now, it's to turn that page from last season and just immediately start focusing on next season.'The chairman spoke of a squad still hungry for success. He described the atmosphere following the final league game against Fulham as one filled with determination and eagerness to return to form. 'Nobody feels good about how we finished the season. They want to come back and they want to come back hungry. And I can see the hunger.'That sentiment extends beyond the players. Al Mubarak revealed that the club's leadership wasted no time in preparing for the upcoming season, even beginning discussions about transfers the day after the season ended. The interview was filmed the next day on Monday. The chairman said the club is starting by targeting the special transfer window opening by FIFA for teams participating in an extended 48-team Club World Cup. 'We finished yesterday evening, our last game. And today, we're working. Nobody's going on vacation yet,' he transfer plans are already in motion with clear targets identified. 'We have our clear number one option, our clear number two option,' he said. 'And we'll go about our business, and it will be very clear, very swift.' The goal is to ensure the team is ready for the Club World Cup, to be held next month in the United Mubarak also reflected on the two pillars of the club: Kevin De Bruyne and Pep Guardiola. He hailed De Bruyne as the greatest player in City's history, lauding his impact on and off the pitch. 'Kevin really transcends this team and I'm so proud of what he has accomplished,' he said. 'It's one of the best decisions we ever took – the day we brought him from Wolfsburg.'Regarding Guardiola, the chairman emphasised the trust that underpins their long-standing partnership. 'One thing we have with Pep, which is so fundamental, is one word: trust,' Al Mubarak said. 'And that trust is what, in the good times, allows you to keep winning. And in the tough times, that's where that trust really shows up.' Despite a season that didn't deliver silverware with City even losing out on the FA Cup title to Crystal Palace, Al Mubarak's message was clear: Setbacks are temporary and the foundation remains strong. 'We're going to come back strong, with a lot of positivity,' he concluded, embodying a resilient spirit that has come to define Manchester City under his leadership.
