SALALAH, AUG 10 The opening round of the 4th School Beach Games Championship, organised by the Oman School Sports Association in Dhofar Governorate, kicked off in strong style, delivering high-energy action and fierce competition in both boys' beach volleyball and beach handball events. The tournament began amid an enthusiastic atmosphere and strong crowd support for the participating teams. Beach Volleyball Action Six matches took place in the first round of the volleyball competition. Al Sharqiyah South beat Dhofar in straight sets, while Al Dakhiliyah secured a similar 2-0 win over Al Sharqiyah North. Al Batinah North cruised past Musandam with a 2-0 scoreline, and Muscat defeated Al Batinah South by the same margin. Al Sharqiyah South returned for their second win of the day, overcoming Al Sharqiyah North 2-0, before Al Dakhiliyah capped off the round with a 2-0 victory against Al Wusta. Beach Handball event The handball courts witnessed intense and closely fought encounters, with some games decided by penalty shootouts. Al Batinah North edged Al Batinah South 2-1 in a thrilling match, while Al Sharqiyah South beat Al Sharqiyah North 2-0. Muscat also overcame Musandam 2-0, and Al Dakhiliyah secured a 2-0 win over Dhofar. Al Sharqiyah South maintained their strong form with another 2-0 victory against Al Batinah North, before Al Batinah South clinched a narrow 2-1 penalty shootout win over Al Sharqiyah North to close the round. The second round of the volleyball competition will be held on Monday morning with six scheduled matches, including: Muscat match against Dhofar, Al Dakhiliyah to take on Musandam, Al Batinah North to play against Al Sharqiyah North, Al Sharqiyah South to face Al Batinah South, Muscat to take on Al Dakhiliyah and Musandam to play against Dhofar. Monday will feature ten beach handball matches. The morning session will see Al Sharqiyah South facing Al Wusta, Al Sharqiyah North to meet Dhofar, Al Batinah North to play against Al Batinah South, Muscat to play Musandam, Al Sharqiyah South to take on Al Dakhiliyah, and Al Wusta to meet Dhofar. The evening session will include four games, including Al Batinah North to compete against Muscat, Al Batinah South to play against Musandam, Al Sharqiyah North to take on Al Wusta and Dhofar to meet Al Dakhiliyah.

Muscat: The plan to set up a multipurpose port in Masirah represents a new pillar in the economic diversification process, as it will help make the island an attractive tourism and investment destination in line with Oman Vision 2040. Dr Yahya bin Badr al Maawali, Governor of Al Sharqiyah South, said the agreement is 'an important step towards enhancing the infrastructure of Masirah. This port will constitute a qualitative addition to the development of the maritime transport and logistics sector. The fisheries sector is one of the main beneficiaries of the project, as the port will provide advanced facilities for fishermen, contributing to better landing, storage and marketing facilities. Fishing is one of the main economic activities in Masirah as a large number of the wilayat's residents depend on it as a main source of income. This project is expected to provide them with new opportunities, by facilitating exports and improving the supply chains for fisheries and marine products. Developing the infrastructure in the maritime transport sector is seen as a key element in enhancing Oman's competitiveness in trade and logistics. 'The port will contribute to supporting maritime activities and stimulating investments in the tourism sector,' the Governor said. The port's construction works will be carried out according to the highest technical and environmental parameters to ensure sustainable goals. This project will create new job opportunities and enhance Oman's competitiveness in the maritime and commercial fields.
