Multipurpose port to enhance profile of Masirah
Muscat: The plan to set up a multipurpose port in Masirah represents a new pillar in the economic diversification process, as it will help make the island an attractive tourism and investment destination in line with Oman Vision 2040.
Dr Yahya bin Badr al Maawali, Governor of Al Sharqiyah South, said the agreement is 'an important step towards enhancing the infrastructure of Masirah. This port will constitute a qualitative addition to the development of the maritime transport and logistics sector. The fisheries sector is one of the main beneficiaries of the project, as the port will provide advanced facilities for fishermen, contributing to better landing, storage and marketing facilities. Fishing is one of the main economic activities in Masirah as a large number of the wilayat's residents depend on it as a main source of income. This project is expected to provide them with new opportunities, by facilitating exports and improving the supply chains for fisheries and marine products.

The new port will contribute to developing the maritime transport sector by enhancing connectivity between Masirah and other ports of Oman.
Developing the infrastructure in the maritime transport sector is seen as a key element in enhancing Oman's competitiveness in trade and logistics.
'The port will contribute to supporting maritime activities and stimulating investments in the tourism sector,' the Governor said.
The port's construction works will be carried out according to the highest technical and environmental parameters to ensure sustainable goals. This project will create new job opportunities and enhance Oman's competitiveness in the maritime and commercial fields.
