‘Victory or Death' Alamo Letter plaque unveiled in Rusk County
HENDERSON, Texas (KETK) – Rusk County recently hosted 'Victory or Death' Voices from the Alamo and Beyond on April 21.
What's on the ballot? Rusk County
The event showcased the unveiling of a bronze Alamo Letter plaque and a ceremony highlighting the history of the Texas Revolution and its ties to the county. Members of both the Alamo Letter Society and the Sons of the Texas Revolution spoke at the dedication to commemorate Colonel William Barret Travis' stand at the Alamo.
Travis faced General Santa Anna and the Mexican Army in late February-early March of 1836 as a part of the Texas Revolution. Travis sent his 'Victory or Death' letter out to the rest of Texas while he and his forces were under siege during the Battle of the Alamo.
Now, the Alamo Letter Society has set out to get a plaque of that letter placed in all of Texas' 254 courthouses. With the unveiling of Rusk County's plaque they have one less county to go.
