TV bosses ask Londoners to star in upcoming Harry Potter series with filming to start at end of month in London
THE upcoming Harry Potter TV series is about to start shooting in the capital – but it's not just the stars who will be involved in filming. A source said: 'The magic of Harry Potter is alive in London and bosses want to help people's dreams come true. They've called out for Network Rail staff to appear as extras in scenes which will be filmed at a station later this month. 'It's been really successful and they have had loads of interest from people who work as conductors and controllers who are keen to get their faces on screen. 'This telly series is a surefire mega-hit so it's not surprising their call-out has proved massively popular. "Bosses at HBO know there's nothing better than having real people in on the action as it will all look totally natural.' And if they are going for this realistic look, I'll be expecting the Hogwarts Express to be delayed on the first day of filming because the wrong kind of summer heat has ruined the train tracks. Oh and the air-conditioning definitely won't be working. A last-minute alteration on platform 9¾ wouldn't appear too much of a stretch either. Show makers HBO previously confirmed they will use an old steam train that was rescued from a scrap heap in Barry Island in Wales as the magical locomotive. The train is currently green, but bosses are staying tight-lipped about whether they will repaint it to match the locomotive seen in the hit Noughties films, which are based on JK Rowling's best-selling books. The first series is expected to run for eight episodes and has been scripted from the first book, Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone. Rising star JK's debut novel was originally released in 1997, while the blockbuster film came out four years later in 2001. The films turned Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint into household names thanks to their portrayals of young wizard Harry and his pals Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. This time around rising star Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry, Alastair Stout is taking on Ron and Arabella Stanton is in place as Hermione. Give it a year or so and they will be some of the most recognised young stars in the country. OZZY WAS MY BLUD BROTHER YUNGBLUD has opened up about the death of rock legend Ozzy Osbourne. Temperatures in York are expected to reach as high as 29C, with Gloucester also set to register the same heat today. Some areas on the west and east coast will be slightly cooler at 24C, but people will still be able to soak up the rays. Spectators at sporting events such as Royal Ascot and the Queens Club tennis tournament will be able to top up their tans in the sun. By this afternoon, a number of areas in Britain are expected to have passed the heatwave criteria, according to the Met Office. An official heatwave is recorded when areas reach a certain temperature for three consecutive days. Thresholds can vary from 25C to 28C in different parts of the UK. Met Office weather forecaster Dan Stroud said: "We're expecting the hot and dry conditions to continue, it does turn a little bit hazier in the west during the course of Friday. "We're still expecting temperatures to reach the low 30s, 31C, 32C fairly widely, maybe seeing 33C." The warm weather will spread to the south and east of the country on Saturday, with 32C predicted in London and 31C in Cambridge. Mr Stroud confirmed that Sunday will slightly cooler, but another warm day across the country - with temperatures likely to hit the late to mid 20s. Over the last few days, Brits have flocked to the seaside and rivers so they can take a quick dip to cool off. Others have been spotted sunbathing in parks instead and making the most of their lunch breaks. UK's 5-day forecast Today: Dry with sunny spells once again, although somewhat cloudier than yesterday. Officials have warned that soaring June temperatures could mean a "likely rise in deaths in those 65 and over". The alert - a step up from the yellow heat health alert issued earlier this week - warned that "significant impacts are likely" across health and social care services because of high temperatures. One Royal Ascot spectator was taken to hospital yesterday, with 42 others given medical attention on site for heat-related illness during the prestigious horse racing event. The UK's June temperature record stands at 35.6C, which was set in Southampton in 1976. Current forecasts suggest the record is unlikely to be broken this time - but it will come close. A warning against wildfires has also been issued by the Fire Brigade, as firefighters have responded to more than 500 across England and Wales this year so far. Huge boost for wild camping as Brits CAN use one of UK's best-loved national parks in blow for millionaire nimbys
I HAVE wild camped on Dartmoor more times than I can count and the fact that this right was even debated in court seemed ludicrous to me. I am not surprised with the decision and I welcome it with open arms. As do the campaigners, that for the past four years have been fighting for something that should not have been questioned in the first place. Landowners (and millionaires) Alexander and Diana Darwall started the battle, claiming that people should not be able to camp without permission from landowners. Advertisement Read more on National Parks The Darwalls created the argument as part of their 4,000-acre estate on Stall Moor near Cornwood, spilt into Dartmoor National Park. As a result, the tradition of And in January 2023, the High Court ruled that the Darwalls were allowed to remove campers from their site. Their legal team claimed that the Dartmoor Commons Act 1985, which allows access for "open-air recreation", did not include overnight camping. Then in July 2023, the Court of Appeal overturned the High Court ruling in July 2023, restoring the right to wild camp. Another added: "Thanks to whoever updated the Wikipedia entry of Alexander Darwall, whose nimby campaign to ban wild camping on Dartmoor has just been upheld in the courts." Darwall's Wikipedia page was updated to include "enemy of the people", but has since been removed. When I watched the court hearing back in October, the argument boiled down to one sentence of the archaic Dartmoor Commons Act 1985. The Supreme Court ruling said: "Within Dartmoor National Park, there are areas of moorland which are privately owned but on which other locals have the right to put their livestock. Advertisement "The clear wording of section 10(1) shows that it confers a right of public access which includes wild camping." Commenting on the ruling, Dartmoor Preservation Association CEO, Tom Usher , said: "This is an historic victory for public access, the DPA are very proud to have played a central role in campaigning to keep backpack camping on Dartmoor as a right. "This has been achieved through the work of many people and we salute the courage of the Dr Kevin Bishop, chief executive of Dartmoor National Park Authority, added: "We are delighted and relieved with the Supreme Court's ruling. Advertisement "This is a landmark judgment not just for Dartmoor National Park but for people who have long campaigned for access rights.
