Stefon Diggs could be CUT by Patriots over viral video that left girlfriend Cardi B furious

The New England Patriots could cut Stefon Diggs after the NFL star was filmed handling a bag containing an unknown substance while on a yacht surrounded by scantily-clad women. That is according to one NFL insider, who believes 'all things are on the table' after the video went viral over Memorial Day Weekend. Wide receiver Diggs was seen lounging shirtless on the boat, chatting with three women - all dressed in bikinis - who called him 'daddy.' That is despite his girlfriend, rap star Cardi B, also enjoying the party onboard. Towards the end of the clip, Diggs produced a plastic bag containing an unknown substance that one of the women took from him. According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, New England could take serious action against the receiver unless they are satisfied with his explanation. 'I think all things are on the table and I think really - to me at least - it's going to boil down to what Stef told [head coach Mike] Vrabel, and how believable it was,' Breer told 98.5 The Sports Hub. Diggs, a four-time Pro Bowler, only joined the Patriots in March. He signed a three-year, $69million contract which includes $25m guaranteed. 'It's going to be hard... the league is going to look into this, and they're going to hit a dead end because they're not going to be able to prove what was in the bag,' Breer continued. 'So then it's up to the team to make a decision. And if the team wants to recoup any of the guaranteed money, they have to cut him right away... my guess would be that the reason he wasn't at practice the other day might be because Mike told him to stay away and maybe they're sorting through everything now.' Diggs did not attend voluntary practice on Wednesday, when Vrabel addressed the incident. 'It's something we're aware of and obviously we want to make great decisions on and off the field,' Vrabel said. 'Any conversations that I've had with Stefon will remain between him and I and the club.' Breer believes Vrabel - a three-time Super Bowl champion - will have a 'pretty good sense' if he is being lied to. 'It's just how credible whatever Stefon Diggs says to him is,' Breer said. 'If [Diggs] comes in and gives you a believable story and then falls on the sword and goes in front of the team and apologizes for putting everybody in this position when they have to answer questions for him, then fine.' Speculation over a romance between the NFL star and Cardi B has swirled since late 2024 Diggs joined the Patriots after one season with the Houston Texans. He is currently recovering from a torn ACL. After the video went viral, an insider told the Daily Mail that Cardi B 'doesn't want her man flirting with any ladies.' 'Girls will throw themselves on him all the time, but she wishes he wouldn't be a scumbag and flirt back,' they said. 'Cardi has had her fair share of relationship issues, and she doesn't want it to continue with Stefon. And now that the video went viral, she is really frustrated with him that he would allow that to happen,' the source continued. 'He should know better, the fact that he didn't realize what was going on around him is embarrassing and she is mad at him.'

49ers could influence NFL to change salary cap rules

49ers could influence NFL to change salary cap rules NFL commissioner Roger Goodell recently discussed "looking into the integrity of the salary cap," according to Albert Breer's latest mailbag on Sports Illustrated. Plenty of teams have found loopholes to essentially circumvent the current system in place. The Seattle Seahawks' NFC West rival San Francisco 49ers may be at the forefront of the league's reasoning. A handful of teams have managed to significantly lower cap charges by providing up-front signing bonuses, or tacking on dummy/void years at the end of the contract. These bonuses are often prorated throughout the life of the contract (up to a maximum of five years). Of course, there can be ramifications, with salary cap numbers greatly increasing in the latter years, but teams can then restructure those contracts to spread out the charges. 49ers owner Jed York has been willing to spend aggressively in pursuit of an ever-elusive Super Bowl. York has provided the 49ers with bundles of up-front cash in recent years in an effort to keep the core of their roster together. Most NFL fans don't realize that only a handful of owners are willing to provide the necessary cashflow to operate this way. Unsurprisingly, the 49ers rank first in dead money this coming season at a whopping $81.3 million, per Over The Cap. They're scheduled to rank third in that department in 2026. Deebo Samuel will account for $34 million in dead money this season. Trading a player whose contract has been restructured to include void years, or including a prorated signing bonus, leads to massive dead money charges when traded, released, or if the player retires. That's what happened in Samuel's case. The NFL is allegedly analyzing the integrity of the salary cap. The 49ers have given the league office reason to look into ways to prevent legal measures that circumvent the cap. The Seahawks will be paying close attention.

Flag football at Olympics: NFL allows players to take part in 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles

MINNEAPOLIS — The NFL has approved a resolution allowing NFL players to participate in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles The resolution, proposed with the aim of 'supporting the growth of flag football both domestically and internationally,' permits NFL players to try out for 2028 Olympic flag football teams while limiting the total number of participants who can participate. The vote, per Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer and NFL Network's Tom Pelissero was 32-0. The NFL's international pathway players will also be allowed to participate without restriction. Injury protection and salary cap credit will be in place for teams who lose a player to injury in the Olympics. Field surfaces and medical staff must reach NFL-approved standards, the resolution said. With the resolution, clubs authorized the NFL Management Council and players union to negotiate Olympic arrangements for its players. The 2028 Summer Olympics will be the first time flag football will be part of the games. The setup and rules of the event will differ from NFL-style football. Each team will feature 10 players total. Five players from each team can take the field at a time. Teams will play two 20-minute halves at the Games. The field will be smaller than a regulation NFL field. The Olympics will feature a 70x25-yard field, including 10 yards for each end zone. Teams will begin on their own 5-yard line and have four downs to make it halfway down the field. Teams can elect to run or pass on each play. A down ends when a flag is removed from a player, when they go out of bounds or when a forward pass hits the ground. If a team reaches the halfway point in four downs, it has four more downs to score a touchdown. If it is unable to do that, the other team takes possession of the ball on its own 5-yard line. After a touchdown is scored, a team can elect to go for an extra point by running a play from the 5-yard line. A team can also go for 2 points from the 10-yard line. If teams are tied after 40 minutes of play, each team will receive possessions until one team achieves an unanswered score. Given the popularity of football in the United States, Team USA is expected to be a favorite to win the gold at the event. This developing story will be updated.
