Madrid joins Formula E Season 12 calendar as new venue, along with two new circuits
Image credit: Formula E As the new Formula E Season 12 calendar with 18 races was unveiled, Madrid has been added as a new venue among 12 cities across the globe. The GEN 3 Evo cars will race for the first time at the historic Circuito de Madrid-Jarama in March next year. This marks the first time a Formula E race will be held in the Spanish capital — and the first World Championship motorsport event in the city in 37 years, since 1989. More about the 2025-26 Formula E calendar Another new circuit on the calendar is the Miami International Autodrome, which will host its inaugural Formula E race on January 31 next year. This event brings the championship closer to the heart of one of America's most passionate sports hubs on the East Coast. Securing a race at this venue follows the successful delivery of its EVO Sessions event in March 2025. Two additional locations are pending public confirmation as end-stage negotiations with local authorities continue. The final calendar will be revealed and ratified during upcoming World Motorsport Council Meetings later this year. The calendar also emphasizes sustainability by grouping events into dedicated clusters across America, Europe, and Asia Pacific. This approach aims to reduce freight transport and CO2 emissions while maximizing logistical efficiencies across regions. Formula E's Miami E-Prix returns in 2026 with a new site — Hard Rock Stadium
FIA's Formula E electric car racing series will run its 2026 Miami E-Prix at the same site as FIA's Formula 1 runs its Miami Grand Prix — the Miami International Autodrome at Hard Rock Stadium. The Formula E event on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, won't use the same 3.36-mile (5.41 kilometers) track used for the annual F1 race, rather one of four shorter configurations. Unlike the F1 course and accompanying event fuss, none of the four options will affect access roads to or from Florida's Turnpike. Nor will it alter life at the nearby Miami Dolphins facility, on the chance the Dolphins are still playing. The Formula E event falls six days after the AFC Championship Game and during the Pro Bowl weekend between Championship Sunday and the Super Bowl. This will be the third venue in three Miami E-Prixs. In the series initial season, 2015, the event — practice, qualifying, race all in one day — ran on a downtown Miami course that included Biscayne Boulevard and the then-AmericanAirlines Arena. This year's return to Miami-Dade, despite scant local promotion and media coverage, drew 18,000 to 20,000 to Homestead-Miami Speedway. For comparison, that beat at least two days of qualifying and racing during March's NASCAR weekend at Homestead. And, there's a permanent road circuit at Homestead. But, Formula E prefers life on those downtown streets or at least closer than 35 miles (Homestead-Miami Speedway to the Freedom Tower) or 63 miles (Homestead-Miami Speedway to downtown Fort Lauderdale). 'It's a bit far from the city center, which is not what Formula E is about,' Formula E co-founder and Chief Championship Officer Alberto Longo said Monday. 'We like to be as close to the city as possible. We have always liked to say, 'We're bringing motorsport to the people' not the other way around, to have to get in your car and drive for one and a half hours to get there.' Longo felt that solid crowd got swallowed by Homestead's massive grandstands, saying 'If you saw that when we were racing in Paris, it would be amazing because the grandstands would be full.' Also, 'the cars are going to look way better at [Hard Rock] than Homestead.'

FORMULA E AND THE FIA CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY BY ANNOUNCING EXTENDED ALL-WOMEN'S TEST SESSIONS
To celebrate International Women's Day on 8th March, Formula E and the FIA have announced that it will host its second annual all-women's test session during Season 12's pre-season testing, with double the amount of track time available to the elite women drivers participating in the event. Following the success of the first ever all women test held at the Circuito Jarama, Madrid in 2024, and to celebrate this year's IWD theme to 'Accelerate Action', the event on the 30th October 2025 will see all 11 world-class race teams involved in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship field at least one women driver for two test sessions encompassing an entire day of on track action. For the second year in a row, Formula E will offer a dedicated platform for up to 22 talented women to push the state-of-the-art GEN3 Evo race car to the limit, which delivers 0-60 mph in just 1.82 seconds. The test will take place at the renowned Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia, Spain, and is an integral part of the pre-season Official Collective tests schedule for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship's Season 12. This unique and historic initiative continues Formula E and the FIA's commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion across the sport. The extended test will give women the chance to share the Collective Tests alongside the 22 male drivers who make up the championship's current roster, allowing them to demonstrate their abilities with the latest race technology on equal terms and in the very same race cars. Each of the 11 Formula E teams are required to field at least one woman driver, with a focus on ensuring that women have access to the same state-of-the-art equipment and technical insights as their male counterparts. As the session will feature all-women participants on track at the same time, it provides a tangible opportunity to highlight the incredible talent and determination within women's motorsport while advancing their career paths. Free Practice Sessions to be Offered to Beginners at Jeddah E-Prix
Racers will also have the opportunity to try Formula E's new GEN3 car. Rookie racers from motorsport championships will be offered free practice sessions at the upcoming women's Jeddah E-Prix, the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. Racers can experience 40-minute sessions on Thursday, Feb 13th, from 4:00 PM to 4:40 PM. Teams must nominate their driver seven days prior to the event. "It's a crucial next-step in fulfilling our commitment to nurturing the next generation of racing talent, including young women,' Alberto Longo, Co-Founder and Chief Championship Officer, Formula E, says. Following the initial success of the inaugural women's test in Madrid, organizers say this will also be an opportunity to try Formula E's GEN3 Evo car, capable of going from 0 to 100 km in 1.82 seconds. "Many of its current stars gained their first Formula E experience in one of these rookie sessions or tests,' says Pablo Martino, Head of Formula E Championship, FIA. Races will take place on Friday, February 15th, and Saturday, February 16th. This is the first double header event for the GEN3 Evo Car.

Formula E to host rookie practice session in Jeddah
Formula E will host a practice session for rookie drivers ahead of the Jeddah E-Prix on Thursday February 13. The 40 minute session – ahead of the third and fourth rounds of the 2024-25 season – is open to any driver that hasn't competed in Formula E previously, and comes after the similar Womens' test session in Jarama that was held at the end of Formula E's collective official pre-season test last November. 'Following on from the success of our official womens' test in November, we're thrilled to introduce this dedicated rookie free practice session at the Jeddah E-Prix,' said co-Founder and chief championship officer Alberto Longo. 'It's a crucial next-step in fulfilling our commitment to nurturing the next generation of racing talent, including young women. 'This opportunity to drive the cutting-edge GEN3 Evo car will provide invaluable experience for these young drivers, and we believe it will significantly contribute to developing the future stars of Formula E and motorsport as a whole.' For the test, all teams must nominate one driver and allocate a car number different from their race entires. No teams have announced their drivers for the test thus far, but must confirm who will be taking part for them no later than seven days before the test. Unlike the Womens' test, where every team was obligated to run at least one driver but seven of the series' 11 teams fielded two drivers, at the rookie practice session in Diriyah, teams will only be able to run a single car. The practice session is the latest move from Formula E to provide young drivers with opportunities in the series. It also hosted a day of running for series rookies at last year's in-season test after the Berlin E-Prix. 'It's crucial for the FIA to allow drivers to develop their careers through FIA World Championships, and the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship has one of the most competitive grids around,' said Pablo Martino, the head of Formula E at the FIA. 'Many of its current stars gained their first Formula E experience in one of these rookie sessions or tests, and to provide such opportunities for the next generation of promising talents to discover the specifics of Formula E and EV racing – and adapt their driving style accordingly – is essential for the championship's continuing growth.' The event in Saudi Arabia – which has moved to the Jeddah Formula 1 circuit after six events in the last seven years in Diriyah just outside Riyadh – will also mark the debut of in-race charging, with one of the weekend's two races featuring mandatory 30 second pit stops which will provide 10 percent additional usable energy for drivers.
