Creedence Clearwater Revival's Chart Comeback Includes Both Albums And Songs
Creedence Clearwater Revival's Chronicle reenters the Top Album Sales chart, while "Have You Ever ... More Seen the Rain" returns to the Billboard Global 200. The rockers almost always hold space on the charts in the United States, appearing sometimes on Billboard tallies dedicated to albums and other times landing on lists that focus on songs as well. This week, Creedence Clearwater Revival returns not only to multiple rankings, but appears on different tallies with a pair of hugely successful titles. The band reappears highest on the Top Album Sales chart, the weekly list of the bestselling full-lengths and EPs throughout America. On that ranking, the group comes in at No. 50 with Chronicle: The 20 Greatest Hits. That set, which previously topped out at No. 10, has now spent well over a decade as one of the bestselling releases in the country, and it casually slips away and then reappears with regularity. In the past tracking frame throughout the U.S., Chronicle sold just over 2,000 copies, according to Luminate. Chronicle's performance on the Billboard charts is mixed this frame. As it returns to the Top Album Sales list, it rises on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums tally, holds steady on the Top Rock Albums ranking, and declines slightly on the Billboard 200. Just one of Creedence Clearwater Revival's tracks appears on a Billboard chart — and only barely. "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" reenters the Billboard Global 200 as it officially becomes one of the 200 most-consumed tracks all around the world. The cut narrowly manages to find space on the list, breaking back in at No. 199. If it can hold on just a while longer — only two more weeks — "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" will become Creedence Clearwater Revival's first track to spend a full year on the Billboard Global 200. One of just two tunes by the band to appear anywhere on the list, it already stands as the group's highest-rising win, having peaked at No. 92. Only "Fortunate Son" has also landed on the list, and it only spent one frame in second-to-last place in the summer of 2024 before disappearing.

Metallica Fans Turn Multiple Classic Albums Into Bestsellers Again

Dozens of musicians and bands participated, dropping new albums, live sets, and special editions of popular projects on collectible vinyl. The promotion encouraged fans to visit local shops, support small businesses, and pick up a limited edition release. The week after Record Store Day, the Billboard charts are typically filled with these one-off titles, which often debut high and then quickly vanish. The effects of the music industry initiative are largely gone from the rankings this period, as many classics and continual bestsellers make their way back onto various tallies. Several superstars return to multiple rankings, particularly those based on pure purchases. One of the biggest winners is Metallica, as a pair of the band's full-lengths reappear on the Top Album Sales chart. The list only accounts for pure purchases, and the fact that multiple releases from the act – none of which are new – sold well enough to appear on this roster again underlines the hard rock outfit's appeal. Of the two re-entries, Master of Puppets ranks higher, landing at No. 42 with a little more than 2,200 pure sales, according to Luminate. The self-titled Metallica narrowly makes the cut, appearing at No. 50 with approximately 2,100 copies sold across the U.S. Both albums actually experienced a slight dip in pure sales — less than 5% — from the prior frame. But thanks to a less competitive landscape this week, there was more room for these kinds of longstanding releases to return, even without sales increases. Master of Puppets only appears on the Top Album Sales chart, while Metallica is performing well enough to appear on multiple rankings this week. The self-titled effort climbs to No. 11 on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart, No. 42 on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums roster, and it ascends on the Billboard 200 from No. 187 to No. 170. Between the two, Metallica is the higher-rising and longer-charting release on the Top Album Sales list. It has previously reached No. 1 and has now spent 738 weeks on the ranking. Master of Puppets, meanwhile, has racked up 219 total appearances and peaked at No. 7.

The frame after that event is historically huge on the charts. The week immediately following, however, is typically far quieter. Many evergreen collections are able to return to various tallies, having been momentarily displaced by flashier new items. This time around, a number of rock acts bounce back onto Billboard's sales-focused rosters with sets that often take up space, but which were briefly pushed aside. One such group to benefit from the less competitive stretch is Creedence Clearwater Revival, whose Chronicle: The 20 Greatest Hits emerges as a bestseller once again on several tallies. Chronicle reappears on the Top Album Sales chart this week, Billboard's ranking that counts only pure purchases of full-lengths and EPs. The tally does not distinguish between digital downloads and physical formats. Despite a slight dip in actual purchases, Chronicle reenters the 50-spot list at No. 47. Luminate reports the title sold just over 2,100 copies — just enough to reclaim a spot on the tally. The same compilation can now be found on three additional Billboard rosters — and it's gaining ground on all of them. Chronicle jumps two spots to No. 10 on the Top Rock Albums chart, returning to the loftiest tier. It narrowly misses the top 10 on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart, landing at No. 11. The beloved release also improves on the Billboard 200, moving up five places to settle at No. 59, thanks to nearly 15,000 equivalent units moved. Of the 50 spots available on the Top Album Sales chart, 30 are occupied by returning favorites this week, which shows just how huge the shift is from one frame to the next following Record Store Day. Just five new titles debut this frame. Among the few reentries that trail Creedence Clearwater Revival are two Taylor Swift projects — The Tortured Poets Department at No. 48 and 1989 (Taylor's Version) at No. 49 — as well as Metallica's self-titled effort, which rounds out the tally at No. 50.
