Death Star Detail in ROGUE ONE Makes Alderaan's Destruction in NEW HOPE Even More Devestating For Princess Liea — GeekTyrant

Star Wars fans are always rewatching, reanalyzing, and recontextualizing the films and shows in the franchise. Thanks to Andor and a fresh look at Rogue One , one specific connection has started to sting a little more, specifically a new perspective on Princess Leia's reaction to Alderaan's destruction in A New Hope . On Reddit, a fan recently pointed out something that many of us might not have considered, and now it's hard to unsee. Leia wasn't unfamiliar with what the Death Star could do when Tarkin ordered the obliteration of her home planet, but what she saw still shattered her. The post reads: "In A New Hope, when Leia is forced to watch Alderaan be destroyed, she reacts with horror and surprise (valid reaction).' It goes on: "But there's a second part to this I never realized until I just watched Rogue One again. She was present at Scarif. She saw the effects of the Death Star there. 'She was not present at Jedha, but I'm sure she heard of the aftermath. So in her mind, as Tarkin gives the order, she's expecting a big explosion on the surface and a lot of people to die. 'And then her entire planet just vaporizes in a second, right before her eyes. Completely subverting not just her expectations, but the Rebellion's." That's the gut punch. Leia knew it was coming, but she just didn't know how bad it was going to be. In Rogue One , Leia is nearby when Scarif is hit by the Death Star, watching the fallout from a distance just after the plans are transmitted aboard the Tantive IV. That moment, along with the wreckage at Jedha, gave the Rebellion a preview of the weapon's destructive force. But Alderaan's destruction wasn't just a tactical display, it was personal. And the weapon wasn't just killing people this time, it was wiping out Leia's past, her culture, and her entire planet in an instant. One fan also noted the stark contrast in how the destruction is shown: "It's wild to go from the drama of Rogue One showing the Death Star looming over Jedha and Scarif, people reacting from the ground, detailed, up-close destruction of the planets' crust rending apart as the music swells… to Alderaan instantly turning into a stock footage explosion that the camera only lingers on for about four seconds with almost no fanfare." Sure, some of that difference is technical limitations. A New Hope was made in 1977 and Rogue One in 2016, but the emotional difference is amplified when you watch in story order. In Rogue One , the destruction feels colossal and terrifying. By the time we get to Alderaan in A New Hope , the horror is quieter, but for Leia, now seen in a new light, it's far more devastating. With Andor recently filling in more about the construction of the Death Star and the origins of the Rebellion, this small but interesting connection just adds another layer to Leia's story.

After Watchng ANDOR Season 2, STAR WARS Fans Realize The Death Was Fully Operational For... Barely a Week? — GeekTyrant

Now that Andor Season 2 has wrapped on Disney+, Star Wars fans are doing what they do best… digging deep and connecting the dots. This time, the focus is on the Death Star. It turns out that terrifying symbol of Imperial power, years in the making, was probably only fully operational for a few days before it was destroyed by the rebellion. The Andor finale directly sets up Rogue One , which in turn leads immediately into A New Hope . That tight timeline has fans realizing that once the Death Star was actually completed and weaponized, it didn't stick around for long. 'So, after watching Andor S2, and realizing this show wraps up immediately before Rogue One. And now doing the math, if I'm not incorrect the Death Star only operated for less than a month, after over a decade of construction. Right?" one Reddit user asked. Another fan was quick to cut that down even further: "Not even a month. More like a few days at most. And it had been under construction for at least 19 years. Plans for it had existed for at least 23 years, even before the reign of the Empire began." Two decades of scheming. Billions of credits. Countless lives lost during its construction (shoutout to Clerks for asking the hard questions about contractors). And all of it blew up shortly after going live. The Death Star did manage to unleash some serious destruction in its short lifespan, most notably obliterating Alderaan in A New Hope , and taking out Jedha City during Rogue One . But the long-term reign of terror Emperor Palpatine had planned? That never really had time to take root. "And Palpatine's entire long-term strategy revolved around the Death Star," another fan pointed out. "He finally felt comfortable dissolving the Senate with the Death Star at hand... Only to lose it in a matter of days." It's one of those ironic twists that adds a whole new layer of tragic overconfidence to the Emperor's game plan. He bet everything on a weapon that barely got to stretch its legs. Of course, the Empire didn't learn their lesson. A second Death Star was under construction in Return of the Jedi , and was destroyed before it was even completed. By the way, we should get a series about the construction of that Death Star! So while the Death Star will always be iconic, its time as the galaxy's ultimate weapon was more of a quick, brutal burst than a prolonged era of dominance. And thanks to Andor , the full context makes it all hit a little differently.

Expect More of Benjamin Bratt's Bail Organa Next Week, Says Andor Creator

There was a lot of buzz about Benjamin Bratt replacing Jimmy Smits as Bail Organa in Andor , and after the recent episode drop, some fans are wondering why he would show up for just a small cameo. As it turns out, the series has bigger plans for him. Talking to Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Tony Gilroy confirms that Bratt's main role as a representative of Alderaan hasn't come yet, and they made him appear earlier so fans could 'get it out of their system' by the time he takes the center stage. Gilroy explains: 'I put him in episode 6 in an arbitrary way so people will get the conversation out of the way until the next week when he really starts to work. It's one of those situations where I want to do something simple. We don't do many things that are unnecessary, but it's like, 'Let's get him in here now so people can discuss it for a week and get it out of their system and then he can come back to really work.' I didn't want the guy's work to be confused with his introduction.' Though he only had a small cameo this week, Bail Organa is set to make an appearance at the Senate, and this will probably be around the time we should expect Mon Mothma to make a public claim of renouncing the Emperor which she does in Rebels. Since this is Andor though, I'm sure they're going to give her a different speech that captures the same message for Star Wars fans. Admittedly, it's a shame that Bail can't be reprised by Smits for a show that's actually critically acclaimed, but I think Bratt's doing a fine job—even for just the small appearance he's had so far. Catch the next arc for Andor when it comes out next week.
