BID announces funding in Harrogate for Shopsafe's Alert app
Harrogate BID has announced funding for the Alert app from ShopSafe, which will support the Harrogate Pubwatch scheme in the town centre by streamlining communication between venues. Matthew Chapman, chief executive of Harrogate BID, said: "We're thrilled to be working alongside the Pubwatch scheme in our town to continue to improve the initiative for its members." It is hoped that the app will make it easier for venues to report incidents and identify banned individuals, supporting a safer night-time economy. The partnership between Harrogate BID, Pubwatch, and Shopsafe's Alert app was announced officially at a meeting last Thursday (May 29). Details of the Best Bar None scheme in Harrogate were also revealed during that meeting. The scheme is designed to help customers to identify well-run night-time economy venues, which have received a mark of accreditation from the scheme. Venues wishing to join the Pubwatch scheme in Harrogate, or to learn more, are invited to email email info@

Ambulance procession honors fallen Butler County paramedic
WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — On Thursday, family, friends, and first responders gathered to remember Butler County EMS paramedic Justin Lauppe, who died in the line of duty last week. They came together to honor him, remember his contributions and say their final goodbyes. Lauppe was working at an emergency call last week when he went into cardiac arrest. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, but died. Silver Alert search intensifies in Cowley County His memorial service was held at Park City Arena at 1 p.m. Following the service, a procession of first responder vehicles accompanied the family to a Butler County cemetery. The flag-draped casket was on top of a Butler County heavy rescue truck that was draped in black. Butler County Emergency Management Director Keri Korthals said Lauppe was a genuine person who truly cared about giving back. His death leaves a big hole in the EMS community. 'He was one of those people that you can look at him and see that he was answering a calling, because the amount of passion that he brought to the job, the amount of passion he brought to caring for his patients, caring for his teammates was just evident in everything that he did,' she said. Korthals said Lauppe was invested in ensuring that everyone around him got better in their health and in their life. 'He filled gaps that nobody else could. He was there at the moment's notice, and those type of things are just hard to find in people today. He exemplified that,' Buter County EMS Chief Frank Williams said. Korthals also said she is touched by the outpouring of support from all over the region. For more Kansas news, click here.
