Hospitals awarded funding for solar power work

Hospitals in Hull and northern Lincolnshire have been awarded grants to help them carry out major solar power projects. The investment of £8.5m by state-owned Great British Energy will enable rooftop panels and solar car ports to be installed at Hull Royal Infirmary, Diana Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby and Scunthorpe General Hospital. The investment was announced by the government on Friday. Alex Best, of NHS Humber Health Partnership, said solar ports would be installed in the Argyle Street car park as well as in smaller car parks at Hull Royal Infirmary. "We will be putting panels on roofs wherever possible – starting with the women's and children's building," he said. "Together, these panels will generate estimated savings of more than £635,000 a year." According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, solar panels will be installed on the roof of the Grimsby hospital and just over £1m will go to Scunthorpe General Hospital.
