Alex Sarr: Former Perth Wildcat named to NBA's All-Rookie team
Alex Sarr has been recognised among the NBA's top first-year players, with the Perth Wildcats graduate named to the league's All-Rookie team. Sarr averaged 13 points and 6.5 rebounds per game in 67 appearances for the lowly Wizards after being taken with Pick 2 at last year's draft. But it was the defensive side of the game that shone brightest for the French product, with his 1.5 blocks per game ranking seventh among all NBA players across the regular season. It's the first time a former NBL player has earned an All-Rookie nod since 2020-21, when LaMelo Ball (Charlotte, ex-Illawarra) and Jae-Sean Tate (Houston, ex-Sydney) both achieved selection. Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle, from San Antonio, was the sole consensus pick in the All-Rookie side. He and Sarr were joined by Atlanta's Zaccharie Risacher and Memphis duo Zach Edey and Jaylen Wells. Sarr, who finished fourth in Rookie of the Year voting, is also Washington's first All-Rookie player since Bradley Beal 12 years ago.

Canada's Zach Edey named to NBA All-Rookie 1st team, joining Grizzlies teammate
Social Sharing Stephon Castle gets one more accolade from his rookie season: The San Antonio guard was the only unanimous first-team selection on the All-Rookie team. Castle, the league's rookie of the year, was the only player to get first team votes from all 100 members of the global panel of sportswriters and broadcasters who cast ballots to decide most of the NBA's annual awards. He was joined on the first team by Atlanta's Zaccharie Risacher (who was one vote away from unanimous status), Memphis teammates Jaylen Wells and Zach Edey of Toronto, and Washington's Alex Sarr. It's the first time a team has had multiple players named to the All-Rookie first team since the Grizzlies did it in 2019-20 with Brandon Clarke and Ja Morant. The second-team selections were Miami's Kel'el Ware, Chicago's Matas Buzelis, New Orleans' Yves Missi, Portland's Donovan Clingan and Washington's Bub Carrington. Edey (73 first-team votes, 27 second-team votes) joined Castle and Risacher as the only players to appear somewhere on all 100 ballots. Wells was on 99 ballots, Sarr was on 96 and Ware was on 94. Utah's Isaiah Collier was one point shy of tying Carrington for the final spot on the second team. Others receiving votes: Utah's Kyle Filipowski Detroit's Ron Holland II Los Angeles Lakers' Dalton Knecht Phoenix's Ryan Dunn Philadelphia's Jared McCain Golden State's Quinten Post Toronto's Jamal Shead Orlando's Tristan da Silva Minnesota's Rob Dillingham Philadelphia's Justin Edwards Washington's Kyshawn George Houston's Reed Sheppard

Alex Sarr and Bub Carrington land on NBA all-rookie teams
For the first time in more than 60 years, two Washington Wizards were named to the NBA's all-rookie teams, the league announced Tuesday. Center Alex Sarr made first team — the first Wizard to do so since Bradley Beal in 2012-13 — while guard Bub Carrington was named to the second team. They are the first Wizards to make the teams since Rui Hachimura in 2019-20. The only other time the Wizards had two selections came when Rod Thorn and Gus Johnson earned the honor in 1963-64.
