'Israeli' army claims arrest of Iranian Quds Force cell in southern Syria
On Monday, the 'Israeli' army announced the arrest of a cell affiliated with Iran's Quds Force during a 'special operation' in southern Syria. In a statement, the army said, 'Based on information obtained from investigations by Unit 504, forces from the Alexandroni Brigade (Brigade 3), led by the 210th Division and in cooperation with field investigators from the unit, carried out a nighttime operation during which a cell operated by Iran's Quds Force was arrested in the Tal Kudna area of southern Syria.' The statement added, 'For the second time in the past week, forces from the division executed a precise nighttime operation, arresting several militants who posed a threat in the region,' without providing further details. No official response from the Syrian side regarding the 'Israeli' army's claims. Meanwhile, international reports indicate that all Iranian military formations have withdrawn from Syria following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime on December 8, 2024. Syria has repeatedly condemned ongoing 'Israeli' violations and reaffirmed its commitment to the 1974 ceasefire agreement signed with Tel Aviv. Since 1967, 'Israel' has occupied most of the Syrian Golan Heights. Taking advantage of the fall of Assad's regime in December 2024, 'Israel' expanded its control into the Syrian buffer zone and penetrated Quneitra and rural Damascus provinces. It declared the 1974 disengagement agreement between the two sides null and void and occupied the strategic Mount Hermon area.
