Aston Martin driver hits light pole in deadly Los Angeles pursuit

A short pursuit came to a violent and deadly end when the driver crashed into a light pole in Los Angeles' Boyle Heights neighborhood early Friday morning. The incident took place around 3 a.m. when California Highway Patrol officers began pursuing a silver Aston Martin that was said to be speeding near South Soto Street and Whittier Boulevard. The Aston Martin crashed a little more than a mile away when it slammed into the pole near Soto Street and Washington Boulevard, a California Highway Patrol spokesperson confirmed. The spokesperson said that the driver, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies in Castaic arrested a man who smashed the windows of a hookah lounge early Saturday. According to a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesperson, deputies were originally requested to respond to reports of a vandalism at 31585 Castaic Road around 12:30 a.m. Coyote encounters in Santa Monica on the rise in wake of Palisades Fire The address given by authorities is Habebe Cafe and Hookah Lounge. Upon arriving, the deputies located two businesses with smashed windows, although video footage obtained by KTLA appears to show that only the hookah lounge had sustained damage. Volunteers continue beautifying Los Angeles ahead of large-scale events with 'Shine L.A.' program The suspect barricaded himself inside the business but was arrested after deputies entered the premises, the spokesperson said. Deadly wrong-way crash shuts down freeway in downtown Los Angeles on Easter Sunday

A wrong-way crash that claimed at least one life led to the 10 Freeway being shut down in downtown Los Angeles early on Easter Sunday. Preliminary information from the California Highway Patrol indicates that officers were called to the westbound span of the 10 at Central Avenue for the wrong-way collision at 5:25 a.m. A total of three vehicles were involved, CHP confirmed. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and multiple other people were transported to nearby hospitals in unknown condition. It was not immediately clear if impairment played a role in the fatal crash. Video from the scene taken by KTLA photojournalist John Greenwood shows that traffic on the freeway had come to a complete standstill as crews began working to clear the scene. A gang-related shooting in East L.A. claimed the life of a man early Saturday morning, and now authorities are searching for a trio of suspects. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to calls of a shooting near Williams Place and Valley Boulevard in the El Sereno neighborhood at 2:15 a.m., and upon arriving, they located a man who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, only identified as a 39-year-old Hispanic man, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. 'Further investigation [revealed] that three males approached the victim in his RV,' an LAPD spokesperson confirmed to KTLA. 'One of them produced a handgun and fired at the victim.' A man died after four other men tried to steal his chain in South Los Angeles early Saturday morning, police say. The attempted robbery occurred around 3:15 a.m. near Florence and Western avenues in the Harvard Park neighborhood, according to a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson. 'Four Black males approached the victim on foot and tried to rob him of his chain,' the spokesperson said. 'The victim refused, and one suspect produced a gun and fired multiple rounds.' That victim, who remains unidentified, was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The suspects fled the scene in an unknown direction. No descriptions were immediately available, but the incident was confirmed to not be gang related, the LAPD spokesperson stated. Video from the scene shows a police presence outside Burger Palace, located at the intersection of Florence and Western, although it was not confirmed if the shooting took place there.
