Summer-like weather returns to area with temps reaching mid 80s
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — After a cool start Sunday morning, temperatures will warm into the low to mid 70's Sunday afternoon. While we will have plenty of sunshine, so haze maybe noticed in the sky. The haze in the sky is from the Canadian wildfires, however it is not expected to have a major impact on air quality (most of the smoke is high up in the atmosphere). Our dry trend continues into the new work week, bringing summer-like weather early into June. Temperatures will climb into the low 80s and mid 80s by Wednesday. We will see a chance of storms late Wednesday, with most of the activity coming overnight as a slow moving cold front approach the area. Thursday is the best chance to see rain this week, as that front stays stalled. The cold front will move through going into Friday with highs dropping back into the mid 70s and another chance of rain. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Storm Center AM Update: Smoky Skies Again; Watching Monday
SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — Smoky skies will fill several portions of KELOLAND today, with air quality concerns in place due to Canadian wildfire smoke riding along the jet stream and moving through the area. Unfortunately, more smoke will be lingering as we head through the day and into the night for that matter. Air quality alerts, as a result, will remain in place through the day and night in South Dakota, Minnesota, and portions of Iowa. Please limit strenuous outdoor activities today…especially if you're prone to respiratory problems. The good news is that we get a frontal boundary to come along by Monday to help sweep this smoke out of the region…so air quality is expected to improve as we head beyond the Monday outlook. The bad news is that we'll have to contend with showers and thunderstorms…especially in the second half of the day. Some of those storms may become strong to severe. A 'Slight Risk' for severe weather is in place for most of eastern and southeastern South Dakota, the Marshall area in Minnesota, and northeastern Nebraska. A 'Marginal Risk' surrounds that for areas around Winner, Redfield, Worthington, and Rock Valley. Damaging gusts and large hail are the main concerns, though there's always a non-zero isolated tornado risk. Please stay weather aware. Showers and a storm or two may linger through the first half of the day on Tuesday to the east and southeast, but the overall trend is one of improvement through the day and into parts of Wednesday if you're East River. To the west, we'll have some showers redevelop on Wednesday. Daily chances for showers and a storm or two will return by Thursday and stick around through the first half of the weekend. While no day is a total wash-out, you'll want to watch and see if you need to bring an umbrella where you go. All the while, temperatures will be much closer to average as we head through the second half of the week and into next weekend.
