Sun of justice will rise, says Imran
Former prime minister Imran Khan was allowed on Tuesday to meet his lawyer, Ali Bukhari, while his wife Bushra Bibi met her daughter and sister-in-law at Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail where the couple is detained. However, Imran's three sisters — Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi — were denied access, prompting them to stage a protest late into the night at a local roadside restaurant. Police later cracked down and detained six PTI workers. However, it was later reported that police assured Imran's sisters they would be allowed to meet him today (Wednesday). Ali Bukhari, speaking to the media after the meeting outside the jail, said the PTI founder remains steadfast despite solitary confinement. Bukhari said six names had been submitted to authorities for permission to meet Imran but only he was allowed to meet the former premier. He also noted that his client has been denied access to newspapers and television, and was not even allowed to meet his wife. According to him, Imran insisted that "the sun of justice will rise" and urged supporters not to lose courage. Separately, Aleema Khan told reporters at the Police Factory checkpoint that warrants had been issued against her and she had not sought bail. "Our brother is inside; arrest us too," she said, adding that the authorities were not concerned about Pakistan or the PTI founder. She demanded answers about May 9, 2023 rioting incidents. "Bring the CCTV footage — were cameras not installed at such major institutions [attacked on that day]? Those who stole the footage are the ones who set the buildings on fire. "Why should we apologize? It is they who must apologize to the PTI founder. This injustice must end; the system cannot continue like this," she added. Meanwhile, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja also lashed out at the authorities, saying that court verdicts against PTI leaders in May 9 cases rested only on the testimony of two policemen who claimed to have entered Zaman Park wearing "invisibility caps". Speaking to the media near Adiala Jail, he said the PTI founder had been kept in solitary confinement for four weeks in defiance of an order of the Islamabad High Court. He called the cases part of a conspiracy to implicate the PTI founder, demanding transparent investigations. "On the basis of two policemen's testimony, parliamentarians are being handed ten-year sentences and their properties confiscated. Even the British during the freedom movement did not commit such excesses," Raja said. He revealed that Imran had directed the party not to contest by-elections on vacant seats. "Some leaders believe we should participate, but for us, his word is final. Without meeting him, further consultation is not possible," he added, noting that since March 25 family and lawyers have been denied meetings with the PTI founder.

August 5 protest: Verdict reserved on bail pleas of 7 female PTI workers
ISLAMABAD: A local court on Thursday reserved its verdict on the bail applications of seven female workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who were arrested in connection with the party's protest held on August 5. Judicial Magistrate Shaista Khan Kundi reserved the judgment after hearing arguments on multiple bail pleas filed on behalf of the detained women, currently on judicial remand. The case was registered at Lohi Bher police station following the August 5 protest. During the hearing, multiple lawyers associated with PTI submitted separate bail applications for the same individuals, leading to confusion and prompting a strong reaction from the judge. The judge expressed displeasure over the submission of multiple bail pleas, questioning the coordination among the lawyers. 'What kind of mess have you people created?' she remarked. 'I will mention everyone's name in the order,' she added. Advocate Ali Bukhari, one of the lawyers, argued that he was representing the women as they belonged to his constituency. He emphasised that the women, many of whom are elderly, were not found in possession of any incriminating items. 'All the sections mentioned in the FIR are bailable,' Bukhari argued. The defence maintained that the charges in the case did not warrant continued detention. Police did not produce the record of the case during the hearing. After hearing the arguments from all parties, the judge reserved the verdict on the bail applications and adjourned the hearing till today (Friday). The same court on Wednesday last, over nine PTI workers to the police on three-day physical remand and sent seven female workers to jail in the same case. The defence counsel, while arguing before the court, said that it is a politically motivated case and merited a discharge instead. Nothing has been recovered from the arrested PTI workers, he said, adding that they were peacefully standing on an open road, neither did they block the road nor resort to any violence. Appointment of state counsel: Trial verdict declared ‘null and void'
ISLAMABAD: The District and Sessions Court on Tuesday declared the trial verdict 'null and void' regarding the appointment of state counsel in a case registered against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and workers in connection with the party's November 26 protest. Additional Sessions judge Aamir Zai, while announcing the reserved judgment, approved the petition against the appointment of state counsel in a case registered at Ramna police station. PTI counsel Ali Bukhari appeared before the court. The cases had been registered under the Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Act and are currently under trial. It is pertinent to mention here that the judicial magistrate, Ahmed Shehzad Gondal, had ordered the appointment of state counsel on May 31 after PTI counsel failed to appear before the court. PTI on June 3 challenged the trial court's verdict regarding the appointment of the state counsel. Meanwhile, another court has reserved its verdict on the acquittal pleas of PTI senior leader and former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser in a case registered against him in connection with his party's November 26 protest. Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah, while hearing the case against Qaiser registered at Kohsar Police Station, reserved its verdict on his acquittal plea following completion of arguments by both parties. Court has fixed July 10 for the announcement of the judgment. Copyright Business Recorder, 2025
