Al-Sistani urges Arab, Islamic nations to end Gaza tragedy
Shafaq News – Najaf/Gaza On Friday, Iraq's top Shiite cleric, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, urged the international community—particularly Arab and Islamic nations—to act immediately to end what he described as a "major humanitarian tragedy" unfolding in Gaza under Israeli military operations. In a statement released by his office, al-Sistani condemned what he called the "brutal savagery" of the Israeli occupation, which he said was part of an ongoing effort to displace Palestinians from their homeland. "While such acts of cruelty may be expected from the occupying forces," the statement read, "what is expected from the countries of the world—especially Arab and Islamic nations—is to ensure this immense humanitarian disaster does not continue.' Urging these countries to intensify their efforts to put an end to it, the statement stressed them to 'do everything in their power to compel the occupying entity and its supporters to allow the urgent delivery of food and essential supplies to innocent civilians." Al-Sistani warned that the worsening famine in Gaza, vividly portrayed by media outlets, is too grave to ignore. "These horrifying scenes of widespread starvation should prevent any person of conscience from enjoying food or drink in peace," the statement concluded.

Iraq's Coordination Framework denies receiving letter from Ayatollah Al-Sistani
Shafaq News - Baghdad On Friday, the Coordination Framework (CF) Secretary-General Abbas al-Amiri dismissed reports claiming it had received a message from Iraq's supreme religious authority in Najaf. The CF is an influential Iraqi Shiite political bloc that emerged after the 2021 elections. Following the Sadrist Movement's withdrawal of its MPs in June 2022, the CF effectively became the largest force in Iraqi politics. Unofficial reports claimed that Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani had warned CF leaders of an 'existential war' threatening the Shiite community following heightened tensions with Iran. The alleged message called for unity, anti-corruption efforts, and an end to appointments based on sectarian quotas. In recent years, Ayatollah al-Sistani refrained from meeting with political actors and limited his rare public statements to issues of major national interest and public welfare.

Khamenei's Poster Put Up By Irani Community In Pune, Removed After Bajrang Dal Objection
Last Updated: According to a senior police official, the banner had been placed at the entrance of a lane in Irani Vasti. A poster featuring Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Shia cleric Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani was put up by members of the Irani community in the Loni Kalbhor area near Pune on the occasion of Moharram. The poster was later removed by local authorities after objections were raised by Bajrang Dal activists and a few local journalists. According to a senior police official, the banner had been placed at the entrance of a lane in Irani Vasti. While it did not contain any objectionable content, its presence led to concerns from right-wing activists who questioned whether it amounted to the glorification of Iran's leadership. The incident took place around 1:00 PM on Monday, when a group of 10–12 people approached the police with their concerns. Officers from the Loni Kalbhor Police Station, including PSI Rajesh Khande, PSI Jadhav, and Constable Ravi Aher, reached the spot and coordinated with the local Gram Panchayat. Authorities confirmed that the banner had been put up without prior permission. Following this, the police, along with Panchayat officials, had it taken down. Police said the situation remained peaceful throughout, and no law and order issues were reported. No formal complaint was filed after the removal. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Dr Rajkumar Shinde said, 'These posters were put up without obtaining any permission from the local gram panchayat. A notice has been issued to the concerned parties by the panchayat, and police have instructed that no such flags or banners should be displayed." No case was registered, and officials confirmed that the situation remained calm. (With inputs from agencies) First Published: July 01, 2025, 17:02 IST

Iraqis rally behind Iran after Al-Sistani's warning
Shafaq News/ Hundreds of Iraqis in Babil and Kirkuk rallied Saturday in support of Tehran, responding to a statement by Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani condemning Israeli strikes and warning of regional chaos if Iran's leadership is targeted. Speaking with Shafaq News, protesters in Babil strongly condemned Israel's continued attacks on Iran, affirming the unity of the Islamic position in 'confronting injustice and arrogance.' In Kirkuk, dozens of religious clerics gathered. One of the participants, Abbas Hussein, told Shafaq News, 'These demonstrations are a rejection of the Israeli strikes on Iran, and we stand with our neighbor in this war,' confirming that solidarity among Islamic nations is 'the strongest weapon in the face of aggression.' Earlier Saturday, supporters of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) staged a demonstration in Baghdad's al-Kadhimiya district to declare their backing for Iran. The event followed nationwide rallies on Friday organized by the Patriotic Shiite Movement (the Sadrist) in response to a call from its leader, Muqtada al-Sadr, to protest Israel's military campaign. Tensions have sharply escalated since June 13, when Israel and Iran entered open confrontation marked by daily missile and drone strikes. Despite growing international calls for de-escalation, both sides continue to trade fire across multiple fronts.
