TDT | Manama
Bahrain's under-18 men's volleyball national team is set to begin their campaign in the 17th Arab Junior Volleyball Championship, which opens today in Amman, Jordan.
The tournament features eight teams split into two groups. Bahrain, under the guidance of Argentine coach Santiago Faidutti, are placed in Group B alongside Kuwait, Iraq, and Palestine. Group A includes Lebanon, Libya, Egypt, and hosts Jordan. Initially, Saudi Arabia and the UAE were scheduled to compete but later withdrew.
Bahrain will begin their medal bid tomorrow against Kuwait at 5pm (Bahrain time). They will then meet Iraq on Monday and Palestine on Wednesday, both also at 5pm. The knockout stages will follow the preliminary round.
Ahead of the competition, the official technical meeting was held yesterday, during which team uniforms were presented and tournament administrative matters addressed.
The event is being organised by the Arab Volleyball Association, chaired by Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, in cooperation with the Jordan Volleyball Federation. Bahrain has been preparing extensively, including a training camp in Cairo and several friendly matches in Amman.
The kingdom's delegation is led by Bahrain Volleyball Association vice-president Mohammed Al Thawadi.
