British duo Glasspool and Cash advance at Wimbledon

British pair Lloyd Glasspool and Julian Cash are through to the second round of the men's doubles at Wimbledon after they beat American Vasil Kirkov and Dutchman Bart Stevens in straight fifth seeds took one hour and 43 minutes to see off their opponents 7-6 (8-6) and Glasspool arrived at Wimbledon in trophy-winning form after claiming back-to-back titles at Queen's and then victory at Queen's marked the first time an all-British pair had won the men's doubles title at the tournament in the Open fellow Briton Jamie Murray and his American doubles partner Rajeev Ram were knocked out. They were beaten 7-6 (12-10) 6-3 by Portugal's Francisco Cabral and Lucas Miedler of women's doubles, British pair Alicia Barnett and Eden Silva lost to Colombia's Camila Osorio and Alycia and Silva looked strong initially as they breezed to the first set but their opponents fought back strongly to win 1-6 6-3 6-3.

Painswick star gets boost ahead of Wimbledon match
ALICIA BARNETT will be playing in the mixed doubles with last year's partner Marcus Willis, it can be revealed. The Painswick tennis ace is due to play later today, Wednesday, in the women's doubles first round. Today's mixed doubles draw means that Barnett will take to the court with the same player as last year - fellow Brit Marcus Willis who who memorably took on Roger Federer in a singles match in 2016 at Wimbledon. Barnett and Willis bowed out at the quarter-final stage last year, but not before some very entertaining matches. The mixed doubles are due to start on Sunday, July 7 with the British pair taking on Mexico's Santiago Gonzalez and Tereza Mihalikova from Slovakia.

Stroud tennis star to play at Wimbledon
PAINSWICK'S Alicia Barnett has been given a wildcard entry into the women's doubles at Wimbledon. The former Stroud High School pupil - and playing partner Eden Silva - was given a wildcard for the women's doubles, it has been announced today. The draw for the ladies doubles starts on June 27. Barnett has impressed the home crowd in recent years, famously beating Venus Williams and Jamie Murray in 2023 with her mixed doubles partner Jonny O'Mara. Last year, Barnett and fellow Brit Marcus Willis got to the round of 16 in the mixed doubles after beating a former Wimbledon champion, Ivan Dodig.
