All-Ireland hurling final stuns British viewers as BBC shows Cork v Tipperary
The BBC brought coverage of Sunday's All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship final to houses across Britain as they showed the decider live on TV. People up and down the UK tuned in as Tipperary stunned Cork at Croke Park to lift the Liam MacCarthy Cup for the first time since 2019, while Cork's wait for All-Ireland glory continues. Tipperary ran out winners by 3-27 to 1-18 after a dominant second-half performance, having trailed the Rebels by six points at half-time. The action had viewers in the UK stunned with many taking to social media to have their say. One wrote: "Turned on BBC this afternoon and have seen this mad sport called #Hurling. It's wild! Quidditch, Lacrosse, Hockey, MMA, Rugby, Soccer and Egg and Spoon all in one. You Irish guys are crazy! This All-Ireland Hurling Final is so exciting and tense - get it on!" Another said: "There's GAA on BBC 2. What the f*** is this sport. Bats, what looks like a cricket ball, hockey markings, football markings, rugby posts, a football net, everyone with a helmet on, 2 goal line refs who have flags." Someone else commented: "Currently watching BBC 2 and the All Ireland hurling championship ...... they're all completely mad." One other person stated: "I see they've added a points total to the top of the screen for the second half of the Hurling on BBC Two. Presumably for the benefit us plebs who are watching for the first time and have no clue how the scoring works."

Cork and Tipperary stars clash at half-time as player struck by object
Tempers flared as the Cork and Tipperary players left the pitch at half-time in Sunday's All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship final. The Rebels scored a goal right before half-time as Shane Barrett found the back of the net, but things boiled over afterwards as Cork forward Patrick Horgan clashed with Tipp goalkeeper Rhys Shelly. Referee Liam Gordon did speak to his umpires, who were well placed to see the incident, but decided to take no further action against the players. However, Tipperary's Willie Connors and Declan Dalton of Cork appeared to have words with each other as they went down the tunnel, with a bottle thrown from above hitting Dalton's helmet. Things seemed to be calmed down fairly quickly as players and staff from both sides stepped in. Cork led their Munster rivals by 1-16 to 0-13 at the break, with the Rebels aiming to end a 20-year wait for All-Ireland glory.

Inside RTE's Joanne Cantwell's family life with husband Shay and two daughters
Joanne Cantwell is a familiar face in the world of Irish sports broadcasting. She's perhaps most recognised for her coverage of GAA and her work on The Sunday Game, having once played for Dublin during her teenage years. Joanne will host RTE's coverage of Sunday's All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship final between Cork and Tipperary, reports RSVP Live. Here's everything you need to know about Joanne's career and life outside of sport: Who is Joanne Cantwell? Joanne is an Irish sports journalist and broadcaster from Dublin. She was part of the Dublin county team that won Dublin's first senior Leinster Ladies Senior Football Championship. She was named Young Dublin Player of the Year in 1997 and was nominated for an All-Star award in 1998. She studied journalism at DCU before joining FM104 to cover weekend sport and later moved to TV3's Sports Tonight show before landing her high-profile role on RTE. Family life Away from work, Joanne spends her time raising her two young daughters, Emmy and Alex, with her husband Shay in Kildare. Joanne has four sisters, none of whom followed her into football. Only she and her father shared a passion for GAA. Now, it seems her two daughters, Emmy and Alex, aren't big GAA fans either. Joanne couldn't help but chuckle over her efforts to get her kids, shared with hubby Shay, into GAA. Chatting with RSVP Live, she quipped: "I am trying to get them to become massive GAA fans, if they want to." Having been raised in a family where sport wasn't exactly the main event, Joanne knows all about rooting for her passions. She reminisced: "I grew up with four sisters and none of them had any interest in sport, so it was my father and I against five others, my sister and my mother, at home. I am used to having to fight the fight." The Sunday Game Taking the reins of The Sunday Game from Michael Lyster in 2019, Joanne previously confided to the RTE Guide about the gig's intensity: "I don't have time to think about it as I'm so busy, it's just another programme." But she swiftly acknowledged: "Of course, it's not just another programme. It's an iconic show and I'm taking over from an icon. But people aren't turning on their tellies to see me. They are turning on to watch the hurling and camogie." She's also full of praise for Ireland's sports commentators, noting: "We have a great line-up of pundits and I was recently thinking that we are really lucky with the pundits we have in sport in Ireland." She added: "Whether it is GAA, soccer or rugby, we are blessed with the numbers and quality we have because lots of countries don't have pundits who can say what they want to say and also be taken to task as well. All of our programmes allow people to say what they want to say."

Inside Tipperary hurler Willie Connors' life off the pitch after family death
Willie Connors has been a key player in the Tipperary team since their last All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship victory in 2019. The Kiladangan native also had a successful stint in Gaelic football before deciding to concentrate on his hurling career. Let's delve into his life both on and off the pitch. Tipperary Career Willie enjoyed underage success with the Tipperary footballers before making it big with the senior hurlers. He won a Munster U/21 football title in 2015 before going on to line out with the county in the National Football League and Munster and All-Ireland Senior Football Championships. He made his debut for the Tipperary senior hurlers in 2018, during a league clash with neighbours Limerick. He won his first and only All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship medal the following year as the Premier county beat Kilkenny in the Croke Park final decider. Age, Height and Where He's From Willie was born in August 1996, making him 29 years of age. He is from the village of Puckane and he plays his club hurling with his local team, Kiladangan. He helped to guided his club to a first County Tipperary senior hurling title in 2020. They later added another county title in 2023. Day Job Away from his busy sporting career the GAA star works as an Area Sales Manager at Tippo International Ltd. Death of his Uncle Willie Willie Connors' uncle, also called Willie Connors, sadly passed away suddenly at home earlier this month. His untimely passing comes just days before the Premier County's All-Ireland Hurling semi-final clash with Kilkenny in Croke Park. Willie was predeceased by his parents Tom and Annie, brothers Bernard, John and Michael, sisters Kathleen and Ann, and his brother-in-law Patrick Seymour. He is mourned by his sister and brothers, Breda, Paddy, Tommy, Ollie, Tony, and his twin Ger, extended family, neighbours, and many friends. Injuries Willie suffered a serious ankle injury as Tipperary lost to Kerry in the Superstores Munster Hurling Cup quarter-final. The game was halted for 11 minutes in the second half as an ambulance removed him from Austin Stack Park in Tralee after he had scored a point. Tipperary confirmed that he had sustained a "double ankle fracture in today's game against Kerry. We wish Willie well in his recovery."
