NFL experts agree on bold Mykel Williams prediction

NFL experts agree on bold Mykel Williams prediction San Francisco 49ers rookie first-round draft pick Mykel Williams enters his first season in the NFL with high expectations. Williams never recorded more than five sacks during one season with the Georgia Bulldogs, but that did not stop the 49ers from drafting Williams with the No. 11 pick in the 2025 NFL draft. Williams has a chance to immediately start for a San Francisco defense that features All-Pros like linebacker Fred Warner and defensive end Nick Bosa. Williams' ability to stop the run gives him a low floor in the NFL as long as he can stay healthy. Williams was limited for a significant portion of his junior season at Georgia because of an ankle injury. He entered the 2024 college football season as a potential No. 1 pick, so the 49ers may have gotten one of the steals of the draft. Quite a few NFL experts love how Williams fits in with San Francisco. NFL experts are predicting Williams to win defensive rookie of the year ESPN's Stephania Bell predicts that Williams will win the defensive rookie of the year award. Several of Bell's colleagues at ESPN agree with her. "(The 49ers) knew they needed to improve their run defense, and their selection of Williams in the first round confirmed that commitment," Bell said. "His ability to set the edge is going to be fun to watch opposite of Nick Bosa. Returning defensive coordinator Robert Saleh has to be excited about molding the talented rookie into a perennial elite defender." Williams may not produce a ton of sacks as a rookie, but he'll certainly have the opportunity to face a single blocker frequently with Nick Bosa lined up on the other side of the formation. Pamela Maldonado, Ben Solak and Lindsey Thiry all agree with Bell and have Williams as their early pick for defensive rookie of the year. Only New York Giants rookie Adbul Carter received more support to be defensive rookie of the year than Williams. Williams is fresh off signing a four-year, $25 million rookie contract and is eager to prove himself at the NFL level.

Tyler Booker understands the shoes he has to fill in replacing Zack Martin

In his first 23 years owning the Cowboys, Jerry Jones did not select an offensive lineman in the first round of any draft. Yet, the Cowboys had one of the best lines in football in the 1990s. Since selecting Tyron Smith ninth overall in 2011, the Cowboys have used six first-round picks, a second and a third for offensive lineman. Guard Tyler Booker became the third first-round pick the Cowboys have used on their offensive line in four drafts. Booker will replace Zack Martin, who the Cowboys used the 16th overall pick on in 2014. Martin retired as one of the top guards in NFL history, with nine Pro Bowls and seven All-Pros. He had only seven holding penalties in his career. Booker, the 12th overall pick, understands who he is replacing. 'I watched Zack Martin a lot growing up,' Booker said, via a transcript from the team. 'He's a Hall of Famer, but I think I would be doing me and the organization a disservice if I go in there trying to be Zack Martin. I'm going to be Tyler Booker every single day I'm in there and I'm going to learn parts of Zack Martin that made Zack Martin Zack Martin, made him so great. I'm going to add that to Tyler Booker. I'm not going to go in there trying to be Zack Martin. I'm going to go in there being Tyler Booker and learn from Zack Martin. That's my goal, and I'm super excited to build a relationship with him and learn from him.' Booker mostly played left guard at Alabama, but he will be the right guard with the Cowboys. The Cowboys converted Cooper Beebe from guard to center last season in his rookie season. 'It's easy for me,' Booker said. 'As my coach would say, it's sleepy, because you can do it in your sleep. That's what he would say. 'My freshman year, my rotation was the starters would get the first two series, and then I'll get two series. I would go through a series at right guard. So that's something I'm comfortable switching and not going to be a problem for me. I'm just going to get to work. Wherever you put me on a football field I'm going to be ready to get after it. I'm going to be ready to go. It doesn't matter if I'm at left guard, right guard, right tackle, center, slot receiver, running back. It don't matter. I'm going to give you my all.'

6 Rams made Sports Illustrated's all-time NFL mock draft

6 Rams made Sports Illustrated's all-time NFL mock draft The Los Angeles Rams have had a lot of success throughout the NFL draft throughout the club's illustrious history. They have drafted 22 players who eventually made the Hall of Fame, a number that will surely rise by at least one once defensive tackle Aaron Donald is eligible for Canton. In Sport Illustrated's ultimate NFL mock draft, Matt Verderame went through and drafted the best player at ever pick Nos. 1 to 224. Of those selections, six were taken by the Rams since the 1970 merger. Here are all six Rams players to make the all-time mock draft: Round 1, pick No. 13: DT Aaron Donald (2014) This one is the biggest no-brainer. Donald recorded 111 sacks and made the Pro Bowl in each of his 10 NFL seasons. He also won Defensive Player of the Year three times and made eight Pro Bowls. While there have been other incredible players drafted at No. 13 (Franco Harris, Kellen Winslow and Tony Gonzalez), Donald is on another level. Round 1, pick No. 20: DE Jack Youngblood (1971) Youngblood had a long and successful 14-year career with the Rams that ended in the Hall of Fame. He made seven Pro Bowls, five All-Pros and finished with 151.5 career sacks. There hasn't been another like Youngblood in a long time. Round 5, pick No. 113: OLB Kevin Greene (1985) Another Hall-of-Famer, Greene spent the first eight of his 15 years with the Rams. His 72.5 sacks with the Rams ranks eighth in franchise history, but his 160 career sacks unofficially rank third in NFL history. Round 5, pick No. 177: WR Puka Nacua (2023) Nacua is only entering his third season but is already one of the best late-round picks of all time. He broke the NFL rookie record for receiving yards (which was broken a year later) and has 184 receptions for 2,476 yards and nine touchdowns in just 28 career games. Round 7, pick No. 176: QB Pat Haden (1975) Haden started 55 of 65 games under center for the Rams as a seventh-round pick and finished with a solid 35-19-1 record and made one Pro Bowl. While Haden wasn't a world-beater, he stepped in well when called upon for James Harris, Ron Jaworski and Joe Namath in his first two seasons before eventually taking over as the starter. Round 8, pick No. 204: C Rich Saul (1970) Saul was an ironman for the Rams in the 1970s and early 1980s. He started 105 games at center from 1975 to 1981 after beginning his career as the team's long-snapper. Saul made the Pro Bowl in six consecutive seasons from 1976 to 1981 as well.

Browns have challenged Myles Garrett to become "a real leader of the team"

The Browns signed Myles Garrett to a four-year, $160 million extension in March that included $123.5 million guaranteed. They now expect more out of the edge rusher. 'What we've challenged Myles on is, by his practice habits, by his actions, etcetera, to become a real leader of the team,' Browns owner Jimmy Haslam said this week, via Mary Kay Cabot of 'And he has said he'd do that and we're hopeful that he will be.' Advertisement On the field, the Browns have gotten everything they have wanted out of Garrett since they made him the No. 1 overall pick in 2017. He has seven double-digit sack seasons, 102.5 career sacks, a defensive player of the year nod, six Pro Bowls and four All-Pros. He is headed toward a bust in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. But Jason Lloyd of reported after Garrett's extension that is is "well known within the Browns that Garrett is frequently late to the facility . . . [and] has skipped mandatory team activities on multiple occasions." Nonetheless, the Browns never considered trading Garrett even after he requested a trade. "We had a lot of conversations about it, and there was never serious thought to trade Myles," Haslam said. "What we know we have in Myles is a Hall of Famer. . . . These kind of situations are emotional. People say things, and you have to realize it's not just the player. There's an agent. There's an agency who are working that process behind the scenes, and they're really good at it. They're really effective at it. And we're just glad it worked out."
