when I was born. That name stayed with me through school, aeronautical engineering classes, fashion shows, international tours, Miss India pageants, and global beauty contests. Supriya was the name under which I earned degrees, topped entrance exams, and represented India at Miss International. I even secured the All India Aeronautical entrance top rank with that name! Supriya, for me, was always a symbol of confidence, hard work, and passion.
But behind every achievement was my mother's — Asha Devi's — one quiet desire: to name me Ayeesha.
She has served in the Indian judiciary for over 25 years, upholding justice with dignity and strength — yet within her lived a silent wish. She told me many times:
'I wanted to name you Ayeesha — Ayeesha, as in 'Asha Sa' (like hope), but for some reason, I couldn't.'
