One inspiring example is Kashish Mittal, who cracked the UPSC exam, became an Indian Administrative Service(IAS) officer. Despite having an excellent career ahead of him, he ultimately chose to leave his IAS career behind to explore his one true passion, which is classical music. Read his motivation story below. Who is this young IAS Officer who has gone viral? And why? Kashish Mittal graduated with a in Computer Science from IIT Delhi. According to the media reports, he also received an impressive All India Rank (AIR) 6 in the IIT JEE entrance exam. The journey of excellence did not stop there. He proceeded to clear the UPSC Civil Services Exam on the very first attempt, becoming an IAS officer at the age of just 21. Mittal obtained an All India Rank(AIR) 58 in the Civil Services Examination and became an IAS officer. After spending nearly nine years in that position, Kashish quit his job to pursue his passion for classical music. Born in 1989, Kashish Mittal hails Jalandhar, Punjab. His father, Jagdish Kumar, served as an IPS officer, ensured that their family environment was disciplined, with an emphasis on civil services. His mother, Sangeeta Mittal, influenced the family's musical facet. At the age of eight, Kashish started learning Hindustani classical music, and at eleven, he performed at one of the biggest platforms, Harivallabh Sangeet Sammellan in Punjab. As part of his career in the IAS, Kashish held various administrative positions including Additional Deputy Commissioner Chandigarh, Deputy Commissioner Tawang, and in the office of Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog, Government of India. Kashish's desire for Hindustani classical music made him devote time to the performing art during the years he was in the IIT and during his service in the IAS. After a nine-year career in government, Kashish decided to quit the well-respected civil service to pursue his deep love for Hindustani classical music. According to the official website of Kashish Mittal, he has been recognized as an 'A Grade' artiste by the All India Radio & Doordarshan and an 'Established artiste' by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Government of India. 'Kashish subsequently moved under the tutelage of Pandit Yashpaul, maestro of the Agra Gharana, as per the Guru Shishya Parampara. He underwent rigorous training under Pt. Yashpaul, and learnt the fine nuances of Khayal gayaki in the Agra Gharana style of singing,' reads the statement on his webpage. Kashish's music is influenced by and finds its roots in the rich musical heritage of the distinguished Agra Gharana. In addition to his Guru Pt. Yashpaul, Kashish has been deeply inspired by the stalwarts of Agra Gharana such as Ustad Vilayat Hussain Khan, Ustad Sharafat Hussain Khan, Ustad Latafat Hussain Khan and others. Kashish has been conferred with numerous awards & honours including the Punjab State Award for Art & Culture by Hon'ble Chief Minister Punjab (2007), Saraswati Samman by IIT Delhi (2010), Naad Shri Samman for significant contribution to Hindustani Classical Music (2018), among others. Even as a student, he bagged several National Scholarships in music and academics, such as the Centre for Cultural Resources & Training (CCRT), National Talent Search Examination (NTSE), and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Scholarships.

The ex-IAS officer's achievements will surely leave you stunned. Mittal got the All India Rank (AIR) 6 in JEE and pursued Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Delhi. He graduated from the prestigious institute in 2010. Mittal then competed in the civil services exam, achieving AIR 58. He was an officer in the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram-Union Territory cadre. Mittal also worked as the additional principal secretary to Rajiv Kumar, vice-chairman of NITI Aayog. He resigned in 2019, according to a report in The Print, as he was unhappy about his transfer to Arunachal Pradesh. After quitting his government job, Mittal worked with Microsoft as a Principal Research PM for five years. He then co-founded Disha AI in 2025, a company that democratises high-quality education with artificial intelligence. Apart from excelling in his professional life, Kashish Mittal has been pursuing his passion for music. He has trained in Hindustani classical music since childhood. After resigning from the IAS, the ex-IAS officer has been performing as a classical vocalist of the Agra Gharana. He is an empanelled artist with All India Radio and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). However, the heartwarming success story of IAS Nisa Unnirajan is truly unique as she cleared the UPSC CSE at the age of 40, while taking care of her two young daughters, as well as managing her job and her home. Let us find out more about her inspiring journey. Who is IAS Nisa Unnirajan? A resident of Kerala, Nisa Unnirajan decided to take a crack at the UPSC examination at 35, which is rare as most unsuccessful aspirants bid adieu to UPSC dreams after the age of 30. But Nisa's path was far towards success anything but rosy as she had manage her household responsibilities, job, and take care of her two daughters Nandana (11), and Thanvi (7). However, the brave woman did not lose hope, and diligently managed all aspects of her daily life. She would prepare her children for school in the morning, take care of the house, work her day job, and later engross herself in preparation for UPSC at night. Nisa's husband, Arun, a software engineer by profession, and her in-laws, stood behind her like a rock and encouraged her to pursue her dreams. 'My husband and in-laws supported me at every step. This would not have been possible without them,' she says. How Nisa Unnirajan cracked UPSC? Apart from her daily responsibilities, Nisa Unniranjan suffered from a debilitating health condition, a serious hearing issue, which she turned into her strength. In an interview, Nisa revealed that she was inspired by Kottayam's sub-collector Ranjit, who overcame a similar condition to become an IAS officer. Nisa Unniranjan attended coaching classes in Thiruvananthapuram, but it was her unique strategy that ultimately led to success. Detailing her UPSC preparation strategy, Nisa revealed that she used to read success stories about UPSC toppers and watch their motivational videos on YouTube. Additionally, she divided syllabus topics into smaller parts to minutely study them in detail, and made notes which helped quickly revise any given topic she previously studied. Ultimately, Nisa Unniranjan's perseverance and dedication paid off when she cracked the UPSC CSE 2024 in her seventh attempt with a respectable All India Rank (AIR) of 1000. She was 40 at the time. Currently, IAS Nisa Unnirajan is posted as the Assistant Audit Officer at the Principal Accountant General's office in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

Hailing from West Bengal, Ankita has always been studious. She aspired to study at IIT. Although it was difficult, she never backed down. She worked hard, got a full-time job while preparing for the rigorous GATE exam. She had no extravagant resources or coaching to start with. Surprisingly, she started learning to code on YouTube and reportedly studied on the train while on the way to work. Eventually, in 2020, she got accepted into IIT Kanpur after cracking the GATE exam with an AIR 312. Later, she received an offer from Microsoft, which is the dream job for most of us. Despite facing several hurdles and challenges, Ankita Dey achieved her goal of studying at IIT. Moreover, she obtained an All India Rank (AIR) of 312 in GATE 2020. It was not easy for Ankita to maintain a full-time job and study for a highly competitive examination like GATE, but she never lost hope. At present, she works for Microsoft. Ankita De hails from West Bengal. She has been academically inclined since her childhood. Her parents acknowledged her ability early on and made sure to provide her with every possible support to continue her studies. According to Prabhat Khabar report, Ankita scored 91% in her 10th and 92.8% in her 12th from Douglas Memorial Higher Secondary School. She completed her B. Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) from the Academy of Technology. However, her dream was to study at an IIT. After she finished her graduation degree, Ankita set her sights on an from an IIT. This process started with studying for the GATE exam. In 2020, she took admission at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, where she pursued her Master of Technology, MTech, Computer Science and Engineering. In GATE 2020 Exam, Ankita obtained the All India Rank (AIR) 312 in Computer Science (CS) paper. With AIR 312, she got admission in IIT Kanpur. At present, Ankita works at Microsoft as a Software Development Engineer (SDE). In an interview, Ankita shared that although she studied ECE during her she liked coding and therefore went ahead with CS in higher studies. The transition was not easy as she had to manage a private job as well as prepare for one of the toughest exams in the country.
