Josue De Paula gives Dodgers fans hope with All-Star Futures Game MVP
The post Josue De Paula gives Dodgers fans hope with All-Star Futures Game MVP appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Los Angeles Dodgers are one of the best teams in professional sports. Sure, their July has been rough, having just won their first game in eight tries in the penultimate contest before the All-Star game. But the Dodgers have a gigantic payroll, one of the best records in baseball, and a two-time MVP leading the way, who just threw three scoreless innings in San Francisco while holding the franchise record for most home runs before the All-Star game. And the best part? Their future is looking pretty darn good, too, as their top prospect, Josu DePaila, just showed the baseball world what he could do at the All-Star Futures Game. Taking the field for Team National League, De Paula shined as the true star of the contest, hitting a 3-run homer to lead his team to victory and securing MVP honors in the contest for his efforts. Standing 6-foot-3, 185 pounds, De Paula chose baseball over the family business, basketball, where his cousins, Stephon Marbury and Sebastian Telfair, both played. Signed out of El Niche Academy in the Dominican Republic, De Paul joined the Dodgers in 2022, beginning his career with the team's Dominican Summer League team. From there, he joined the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, was elevated to the High-A Great Lakes Loons, and has become a serious weapon as a power-hitting outfielder in High-A ball, leading his squad in home runs at 10. While De Paula may still be a year or two away from MLB action, as the 20-year-old still hasn't touched Double-A, let alone a trip to Oklahoma City with the Commets, if he continues to shine against some of the top players in the country, the calls for a call up will only continue to grow. Considering the long-term uncertainty at one of the Dodgers' outfield spots – maybe two if Teoscar Hernandez remains in right field – the idea of De Paula one day riding the pipeline up to the major leagues is exciting, to say the least. Some of baseball's best prospects participate in All-Star Futures Game
Some of the best prospects in baseball were at Truist Park on Saturday for the 26th All-Star Futures Game. The game featured 16 first-round picks, including nine from the 2024 draft. Former Georgia Bulldog Charlie Condon was drafted third overall by the Colorado Rockies in 2024 and is the highest-picked player from that draft class who played in the game. Advertisement 'It's really cool, you know, obviously came to a lot of Braves games growing up as a kid,' Condon said. Condon might be the Rockies' top prospect, but he's definitely a Georgia guy through and through. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] He grew up in Marietta, played baseball for the Georgia Bulldogs, and now instead of siting in the stands watching the Braves play, he's playing in the All-Star Futures Game for the first time in his professional career. 'It was just really cool to get out there and play a game with this level of talent on this field. It's special and to have my family in town and to be able to share this day and this moment with all them. It's going to be really fun,' Condon said. Advertisement Representing the Braves are right-hander JR Ritchie, named the starting pitcher for the National League team, and left reliever Hayden Harris from Augusta, Georgia. Since he and Condon both grew up cheering for the Braves, they're both honored and excited to play for Hall of Famer Chipper Jones. 'I grew up and watched those guys growing up, watching Chipper. Even, you know, everyone talks about, like, remember his last home run, it was a walk-off. And just being able to play for him, I said, and I just had an interview. He looks pretty good in the manager's outfit, I'm not going to lie. So, you now, being able to see him on the front step, you know hopefully have a few conversations with him. Like, that would be sick,' Hayden said. 'One hundred percent, you know as a fellow corner infield guy you know that's and he's a big dude so you know just picking his brain about things like that how he went about handling his business on the defensive side of things I mean everybody knows him as a switch hitter, power hitter, but he was a heck of a defender too so you know it's just all hundred percent. (I'll) Be diving into that guy's brain,' Condon said. Jones and his National League team won the All-Star Futures Game 4-2. [SIGN UP: WSB-TV Daily Headlines Newsletter]

MLB All-Star Futures Game: Dodgers prospect Josue De Paula lifts National League to 4-2 win, earns MVP honors
Josue De Paula's three-run home run led the National League to a 4-2 win over the American League in Saturday's MLB All-Star Futures Game at Atlanta's Truist Park. The NL has won three straight in this minor-league showcase since switching from a U.S. versus World format to the two leagues matched up against one another. De Paula, the Los Angeles Dodgers' No. 1 prospect, launched a 79.5 mph slider left in the middle of the strike zone by Noah Schultz to put the NL on top in the fourth inning. Schultz is the Chicago White Sox's top minor-leaguer. In 78 games for the high Single-A Great Lakes Loons, De Paula is batting .265/.409/.425 with 12 doubles, 10 homers, 30 RBI and 26 stolen bases. Advertisement The AL took an early 2-0 lead on an RBI triple from Detroit Tigers prospect Josue Briceño.

Detroit Tigers' Trio Leads Prospect-Packed 2025 All-Star Futures Game
Kevin McGonigle, Max Clark and Josue Briceno have hit the West Michigan Whitecaps into Midwest League dominance this season. The trio of 20-year-old Detroit Tigers prospects will be on display in the 2025 All-Star Futures Game in Atlanta. MLB Pipeline ranks infielder McGonigle as the Tigers' No. 1 prospect, outfielder Clark at No. 2 and catcher/first baseman Briceno at No. 4. All hit left-handed and really well. (Photo by George Kubas/Diamond Images via Getty Images) The American League roster has five other players ranked No. 1 in their team's farm system. The National League has eight organization top-ranked players. McGonigle, described as 'an absolute pure hitter' by a member of the Tigers organization, has been just that in his first 137 games as a professional, batting .325 with power, speed, and great strike-zone command. Drafted in the first round, No. 37 overall, in 2023 out of high school, McGonigle got $2,847,500 to sign. He hit .315 in 21 games across two levels that summer and .309 in 74 games across two levels at age 19 last year. He sprained his right ankle in the 2025 season opener and missed several weeks. In 36 games at High-A West Michigan, he's hitting .372 with 7 homers, 39 RBI. McGonigle has drawn 90 walks and struck out 58 times as a pro with 33 stolen bases. He has played mostly shortstop, though many scouts believe he is better suited for second base. His bat should find him a place in any lineup in the future. (Photo by) Clark is probably the best overall athlete in the Detroit farm system. Picked No. 3 overall in 2023 behind Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Dylan Crews of the Washington Nationals, he got $7.697 million to sign. He played in the 2024 Futures Game. In 197 pro games, he has 46 steals in 53 tries and several highlight-reel catches in center field. He has 37 doubles and 18 homers, too. He is considered a good defensive option in center, which is so important in playing the Tigers' massive Comerica Park outfield. Some scouts believe that as he matures, he could develop power that would make him a true star. Briceno has plenty of power. He has hit 15 homers with 55 RBI in 54 games at West Michigan in 2025. He blasted 10 and batted .433 with 27 RBI in 25 games to win the Triple Crown and MVP honors in the 2024 Arizona Fall League. He has played mostly at catcher and shown some improvement but most everybody forecasts the 6-4, 200-pound slugger as a first baseman – where he also needs work. Since 2019, the competition has between prospects in National League farm systems against those from the American League. The late Jimmie Lee Solomon, an MLB Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations, thought up the idea as a way to showcase minor-league players during MLB All-Star week festivities. He batted .283 with 253 homers in 1,533 MLB games and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1998. He drove in 100 or more runs five times, including a career-best 126 in 1954 when Cleveland won the AL Pennant. He hit .318 in the 1948 World Series, the last time Cleveland won it all. (Photo by Rich Pilling/MLB via Getty Images) The first winner of the award and arguably the most successful afterwards, was New York Yankees infield prospect Alfonso Soriano in 1999. In 16 MLB seasons, he swatted 412 homers with 1,159 RBI and 289 stolen bases. The only player to win the award in his 'home' ballpark was catcher Hank Conger of the Los Angeles Angels in 2010 after hitting a three-run homer. A first-round pick in 2006, Conger had few other career highlights. He hit .293 over parts of nine seasons in the minors, but only .221 in 373 MLB games. His best year was with the 2015 Houston Astros: 11 homers, 33 RBI, .229. The 2025 All-Star Futures Game will be played this Saturday at Truist Park in Atlanta at 4 p.m.
